Story: Valentine's Day, This Year
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2441
Author's Summary: How do you hold a memorial for people who don't even remember they died?
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones
Warnings: None

Recced because: Shortly after I first figured out what Calufrax was, I read this fic, and I immediately wanted to rec it on Calufrax. But it was recced by someone else long before I got the chance, and there's a reason for that: this is one of the best fics on Teaspoon. So here I am reccing it again, and if for some reason you haven't read it yet, go read it now. It's about Martha Jones dealing with the aftermath of the Year That Never Was, and it's personal and powerful, and the ending is so touching and uplifting it just made me cry again even though I already knew what happens.

Story: Girlfriend, Date, Stake-out, Sex
Author: koshiroryuu

Word Count: 1297
Author's Summary: The Doctor and Martha spy on Jack's date, and things, as expected, go horribly wrong.
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: Ten and Martha hide in the hedgerows to spy on Jack Harkness and his date. It's a very funny fic with an amusing premise and an even better execution. There's also a bonus alternative ending in the second chapter.

Story: Karaoke
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 345
Author's Summary: Martha, Donna, Sarah Jane and the Doctor go to a karaoke bar. It seemed like such a good idea at the time.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: Ten takes Donna and Martha to meet Sarah Jane, and they all end up in a karaoke bar. It's a little bit of silly and a whole lot of fun, and what better reason could there be for a rec, really?

Story:
First Date
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 558
Author's Summary: Sarah Jane can be surprisingly overprotective of her son.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde / Luke, Sarah Jane
Warnings: Non, but there's a bit of slash in there.

Recced because:
Overprotective parents can be very good for a laugh, done well. Overprotective parents with matter transporters are comedy gold. A short-but-sweet fic about how unfair it is that a parental figure who'll let you combat alien forces of darkness won't give you a moment's peace on a date with your boyfriend. Funny, warm and sweet, and Sarah Jane's attempts at intimidation are hilarious.

Story: Perennials
Author: [livejournal.com profile] koshiroryuu
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 343
Author's Summary: Just an average springtime day for the Doctor and Peri.
Characters/Pairings: Six and Peri
Warnings: none

Recced because: I love entirely dialogue stories, and this one is pitch-perfect. It's a short one, from [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000, but the tone and character voices are flawless for a Six and Peri-era scene. I especially like how it plays up Peri's knowledge of botany. A fun quick read.

Story: Within the Realm of Possibility
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1200
Author's summary: For every unexplained disappearance, there's always someone, somewhere, somewhen, who knows what really happened.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Peri, Prince Richard, Prince Edward, Tenth Doctor, Anastasia Romanov, Fourth Doctor/Stephen Fry, Uemura Naomi, Second Doctor, Jamie, Humphrey, Virginia Dare
Warnings: tastefully hints at fictional person/real person type slash (F/RPS?)

Recced because: In this series of six double drabbles, we have six mysterious disappearances from real life explained through Doctor Who. It's a fascinating concept and one I'm surprised we don't see more often in fanfic. Koshiroryuu's character voices are spot on as always and her mastery of the strict two-hundred-word format is precise and enviable.

Story: Cheer Up, Emo Lonely God
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1366
Author's Summary: Time Lords may be above posting bad emo poetry on the internet, possibly, but they're not above foisting themselves on their friends to complain all about how they have no friends.
Characters: Clyde, Luke, Maria, Sarah Jane, The Doctor (10th)
Warning: Spoilers for Journey's End

Recced Because:  Luke, Clyde, Maria, and Sarah Jane are as practical and witty as ever, calmly resolving a Series finale plot twist while the Doctor flails. Anyone could use a friend on an emo Monday and Sarah Jane is a marvelous one.

Story: Of Misunderstandings and Alien Semen.
Author: koshiroryuu.
Rating: Teen.
Word Count: 1125.
Author's Summary: Sometimes Donna has no idea what she's talking about, but at least she says it with utter conviction.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Luke Smith, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Friday should be crack!fic day! This one is funny as hell and had me rolling the first time I read it, and the second, and the third... Koshiroryuu has the Doctor and Donna down pat in this! She also has a wicked sense of humour, and several of her stories reflect that. However I'm reccing this one, because this one made me laugh the hardest...and several of them had me rolling.

Story: No Hands Were Severed In The Making Of This Conversation
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1204
Author's Summary: When the Doctor wants to express his feelings, he often turns to Star Wars quotes. Sadly, Luke still doesn't have any clue what in the heck he's talking about.
Characters/Pairings: Luke Smith, the Tenth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is silly, but it's silly in a way that is totally in character for both of them. The Doctor thinks Luke needs a father figure and takes a typically roundabout way of saying so, and Luke thinks the Doctor is just crazy. The dialogue and prose are perfect. Every time I have a bad day, I go to this fic to make me giggle.

Story: Valentine's Day, This year
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All ages
Author's summary: How do you hold a memorial for people who don't even remember they died?
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones
Warnings: None, except for a tissue warning for the soft-hearted. Like me. ^^
Word Count: 2441

Recced because: When I first read this story, on Valentine's Day of last year, I cried. Unashamedly. And I freely admit it too, because this is such a beautiful, wonderful, heart-wrenching piece of writing that I feel like I can admit it without looking totally stupid.

This story looks at a moment in the life of Martha Jones post-LotTL that could well have happened, on Valentine's Day the second time it happened. Or as koshiroryuu puts it: 'Martha Jones is one of the very few people who remembers the first time this year happened, the first time the world had a Valentine's Day this year.'

I hold this fic wholly responsible for making me like Martha more than I did originally. Hands up, I didn't really like her that much when she first arrived on the scene, but now I put that down to being devastated over the S2 finale. This fic put Martha right up with Rose and Donna and Sarah-Jane and all the others, where she deserves to be. I can't even begin to describe the good points about it, because I can't distinguish the good from the even better and the excellent.

So, all I can say to anyone reading this is: go and click on the link-title at the top. Read it. Review it. And enjoy it. Now.

Story: And That Was How The Doctor Was Forced To Eventually Invent Retcon
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 457
Author's summary: To his great shock, the Doctor discovers that he's about to marry... the Doctor!
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor/Tenth Doctor
Warnings: none

Recced because: Look at the title! Doesn't it make you even a little curious? Come on, it has to. Even without the added glory of that great title, though, I would have read the story because I have a marked fondness for good crack. Such as the Tenth Doctor learning that he's supposed to marry his fourth self. Featuring perfect dialogue and a killer last line, this fic is one of many excellent efforts to come out of [livejournal.com profile] churchontime.

Story: We've Really Got To Stop Meeting Like This
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2169
Author's summary: While traveling with the Doctor, Martha meets the Doctor. And then the Doctor. And then the Doctor. And then...
Characters/Pairings: Martha, Tenth Doctor, First Doctor, Second Doctor/Jamie, Third Doctor, Fourth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Seventh Doctor
Warnings: none, unless you want me to warn for high awesome levels

Recced because: Quite simply, I love this story. A lot. I loved it back when it was a series of commentfic in [livejournal.com profile] koshiroryuu's fic journal as part of her 1001 Whovian Nights project (she's up to ninety-eight last time I checked!) and I still love it today. I loved it so much so that I bugged [livejournal.com profile] koshiroryuu into posting it on Teaspoon just so that I could rec it here today.

It's multi-Doctor fic, which admittedly is one of my favourite genres in this fandom, but that's not the only reason I'm so very fond of it. I love it for the characterization. Koshiroryuu takes each of the classic telly Doctors that the Tenth Doctor and Martha run into and captures them perfectly: voice, mannerisms, and personality. I could hear the actors saying their dialogue. And she does this all in less than 4300 characters per Doctor. I'm quite impressed.

Recced because: Twenty six ficlets about the Doctor and Martha. Some funny, some sad, all of them lovely. My personal favourites are the ones where the Doctor keeps accidentally landing his TARDIS in a Welsh quarry.
