Story: Infinitely Late at Night
Author: Siani
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5511
Author's Summary: The Doctor decides it is past time for a drink.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (10th), Kaywinnit Lee Frye (from Firefly)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I think one of the real pleasures to be gained from reading fanfiction is the satisfaction of a good crossover, one written with love and respect for both/all of the settings being crossed over. And this is a good crossover. Cards on the table: I really like Firefly and its spinoff film Serenity. I say that as a well-wisher but not particularly a fan-type-fan of Joss Whedon's other works (you know, imho Buffy really went downhill after she went to college). There's something about Firefly, the cast, the characters the slightly hokey Old-West-in-Spaaace setting that appeals deeply to me. It also seems like the perfect complement for Doctor Who in a crossover such as this one. We have the Tenth Doctor here, travelling the universe in his post-Journey's End self-imposed isolation, consumed by his own guilt and regret. It's easy for that sort of thing to slide into the patented Ten!angst, but here the author deftly avoids wallowing in that aspect of it and instead uses the crossover to comment upon the portrayal of Ten in that period of the show's run. One of the most attractive aspects of Firefly is the genuine, familial bond of affection between the motley spaceship crew, and here that is compared and contrasted with Ten's decision to travel alone and show how that isn't really the best thing for him. Plus the portrayal of the characters and their voices is fantastic. This is Ten at his best and Kaylee as likeable as she is on screen (the bit where she more or less instantly falls in love with the TARDIS is very true, and very nice indeed). So even if you're not familiar with the other half of the crossover, go and read this, I urge you, and say nice things to the author about it.

Poor old Ten... )

;Sorry about that last rec attempt. I just joined this community and haven't had time to go back and read all the previous recs. If this one has been made already I'm afraid it will just have to be a "you suck at this" moment because I have to leave my internet connection in roughly...five minutes. Ok, enjoy hopefully.

Hello - I'm Starling-Night over at Teaspoon, and I'll be reccing a few fics for you this  week :) I like scary New Series oneshots, so let's start off with one of those.

Story: This is Martha Jones
Author: Siani
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 99
Author's Summary: **Spoilers for The End of Time pt 1** The first time she had the dream, she called him.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones
Warnings: none
Recced because: Short as it may be, this fic packs one hell of a punch, and takes full advantage of that little bit of Fridge Horror we all got from the Master Plan in EoT. Like many of us I found that particular bit quite comical, but this? Not so. Prepare to be creeped out by just 99 words.

Hello, lovelies!  I'm here with the last rec of the week.  I really can't believe nobody's recced this yet!

Story:
Twelve Years in Twelve Days
Author: Siani
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 18,439
Author's Summary: Twelve days from twelve years of waiting, or, What Amelia Pond did for Five Minutes.
Characters/Pairings: Amy/Rory, Eleven
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is an absolutely darling exploration of what Amy got up to for those twelve years while she was waiting for the Doctor.  Each chapter focuses on a day in one of the twelve years after he fixed the crack in her wall.  It's a bit long, but it's really worth whatever time it takes you to read it.  It is perfectly in-character throughout, and each story is completely plausible.  And it's lovely.  It really delves into the characters and gives them a backstory you can't help but want to believe.  You may find some additions to your 'personal canon' here.  Keep an eye out for the way she works in the legend of Janet and Tam Lin--it makes a wonderful addition.  This is really one of the best Eleventh Doctor fics I've read.

Well, this is my last rec for the week. It's been a pleasure sharing some of my favorites with everyone. Don't forget to feed the authors when you read! Until next time, I'll leave you with an imaginative, well-written adventure starring my favorite new school TARDIS team:

Story: Little Shops of Death
Author: Siani
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 24937
Author's Summary:In a dull little job, in a dull little town, surrounded by the same people you've known your whole life, it's easy to think that the world is safe and predictable. Unless your safe little town is anything but. Unless the people you think you know aren't the people you think they are.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, Original Characters
Warnings: Explicit Violence

Recced because: This story has the lot. Horror, action, humor, mystery, peril, fantastic characterization and an easy narrative style that pays attention to detail and dialogue to bring the place and the plot to life. Siani sets it up like an episode, complete with cliff-hangers and a set of original characters that really make you care about what happens to them. I love the utter creepiness and horror of the alien baddies, and I love the banter between the Doctor and Donna, and I love Terry the shop assistant and his friend Dai, and how the story builds to a thrilling conclusion and ends on just the right note. Not to mention, gives us a taste of a possible next adventure! Top marks, this story is brilliant. Go read it!
