rec: walk through the dust

Apologies for the lack of rec yesterday; I had RL shenanigans to organise.  (Tip: arranging a secret interstate trip to surprise a friend?  Hilarious.  I totally recommend it.)  Now, back to your regularly scheduled Romana fic.

Story: Walk Through the Dust
Author: ClocketPatch
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1000
Author's Summary: Romana learned some hard lessons in E-space.
Characters/Pairings: Romana II

Recced because: This is a curious story; I almost didn't rec it because of the non-standard line-breaks, but then I realised they contributed to the power of the story.  This is a dark character study, concentrating on Romana's time in E-space and its consequences.  It's not the story fandom usually tells, or wants to hear, but I've read it three times, and I think I love it.

Yes, this is magnificent isn't it? I read it a couple of weeks ago, and still can't get it out of my head. You're dead right about it not being the story fandom usually tells or wants to hear; I'm one of those fans! I think that's the best thing about it; the way it compels you to accept its harsher version of the story simply because it seems so true, and so in keeping with the sophisticated, eerie feeling of Warriors' Gate itself. It's certainly led me to reassess a lot of my fictional assumptions about Romana's later career, the Time War etc., and it's not every fic that does that.

Ooh, that was a really good one. Thanks.

I haven't read the story yet, though it sounds intriguing. For now I'm just writing to point out the typo in the title of this post. "thorugh" = "through" :P
