Author's Summary: “Ficathon entry (pitch-hitting). Assignment: Angst, Bruce Springsteen, Rose/Doctor UST.”
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Warnings: None.
Recced because: cScott hasn't been recced here before, but I can't think why; he's got quite a collection of drabbles and shortfics on the Teaspoon, all wonderful. In this particular story, Nine and Rose are alerted (by an anachronistic radio signal) to an area of random time distortions in 16th-century Spain.
What makes "Darkness on the Edge of Town" special is what happens after the Doctor discovers an injured TARDIS causing the time distortions. Nine's angst about the Time War was always very close to the surface, but gentler than Ten's anger, I think, and this story portrays that well.
Also, I have a particular love for fics that acknowledge the TARDIS as sentient, especially when the Doctor interacts with her that way. And even though this isn't his TARDIS, Nine's actions toward the one in this story are beautiful... and so, so sad.
