I read this long before I saw S&S and loved it as an eerie Seven and Ace story. Now I've seen S&S as well and re-read it, it's one of the best fanfics ever. And I was going to rec it, another time, so curses & all. (In other words, I second this rec with enthusiasm.)

(I can't help thinking, though, that the fact I waffle a lot about things is probably not all that relevant to other people when reading Calufrax recs? Although it is true that I do, of course.)
