Story: The Real Reason the Doctor and Rose Tyler Never Had Sex
Author: azriona
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 315
Author's Summary: Exactly what it says on the tin, kids. The reason that the Doctor and Rose didn’t have sex has NOTHING to do with the hour the show was aired.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler
Warnings: None
Recced because: It's hilarious, and like the best humor fics it needs no other excuse. But even better, the humor comes from a well-known fact about the Doctor that I'd never thought about in this context until I read this fic. The result is total win.

Hi, I'm Canaan Alexander, and I'll be your reccer this week. I'll be reccing mostly New Who and a little Torchwood, and there may be more than one story by the same author in here--too many people I wanted to rec have neglected to put their stories on Teaspoon for us. *g* Fortunately, there are plenty of delightful ones left to choose from. Let's start with . . .

Story: Left Behind
Author: azriona
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 14366
Author's Summary: After a hundred and fifty years, Jack Harkness is used to saying goodbye. He's just getting the hang of saying hello.
Characters/Pairings: (Ten)/Rose/Jack
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is the first Pete's World OT3 reunion story I've ever read that isn't really AU. The premise for getting all three characters into Pete's World is very clever, but that's not why you'll want to read it. You'll want to read it because it's the story of the growing up Rose had to do while stranded in an alternate universe between the end of s2 and the end of s4. It deals with heartache and loss as well as the decisions we ultimately make to go on with the rest of our lives after loss . . . all before Rose ever gets Donna to turn left.

If you like this story, please remember to leave the author a comment. Authors like comments, even if they're as simple as "I really like this." It makes us write more.

Story: Water Music
Author: [livejournal.com profile] azriona
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 70,113
Author's Summary: The Doctor never expects to meet anyone in a linear fashion. How he meets River Song is slightly more non-lineal than most.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, River Song, Original Companion
Warnings: None
Recced because:

Today's rec is a long one, but well worth the time! It was written before we knew much about River, so it has been rather Moff'd at this point, but [livejournal.com profile] azriona did a fantastic job of extrapolating about both her character and her relationship with the Doctor. It also contains one of the very best OC's I've read in any fandom. Go forth, read, and review!

And we come to the end of my rec week! I had an epic blast, so I leave you with an epic crack!fic XD I hope you guys enjoyed the fics this week - they are all gems imo! =D

Story: There Was a Master in a Game
Author: Azriona
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 66712
Author's Summary: Gallifrey wasn’t entirely lost when it went back into the Time Lock; it just got stuck. The Master wants out. Isn’t he lucky that the Doctor left him a way?
Characters/Pairings: K-9, Lynda Moss, Sally Sparrow, The Master (Simm), Romana, OCs
Warnings: none

Recced because: I'll be honest and say that I wasn't initially planning on reading this fic when it came out. It didn't have any pairings I recognize or fangirl, and I'm not really into The Master fics, so I was gonna take a pass. Then, my Friend List literally exploded with praise for this fic, so I decided to read it and see what all the fuss was about. SO GLAD I DID!! It is an incredibly funny, ingenious account of the Master post-End of Time. We know and love him as an evil crazy guy ... but, between the crack!tastically funny dialogue, this fic has mystery (what is the point of the game?) and even character development, which is a rare feat for a crack!fic to pull off so beautifully and believably!! I read it the whole thing in one sitting 2 days before a big midterm - that is how much I liked it!! I hope you enjoy it as well! =D

Well, it’s my last rec of the week – I’ve had a great time finding a variety of stories to recommend. Now, for those who love the sugary goodness of a well crafted crack!fic, I’ll leave you with a song.

Story: Doctor Who, Broadway Style! Les Miserables
Author: azriona
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3476
Author's Summary: The Master is plotting the enslavement of the Earth, and the Doctor is in a wheelchair. Whoever will be able to stop him? Martha Jones, that’s who! Featuring a lovely duet between Rose Tyler (yes, Rose Tyler) and the Doctor. It’s not just Crack!Fic, it's Musical Crack!Fic!
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, The Master (Simms), Francine Jones, Clive Jones, Tish Jones, Lucy Saxon, Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Tom Milligan, Jack Harkness,
Warnings:. none

Recced because: The utter brilliance of this musical crack!fic is right there in the title. Les Miz fans, be prepared to start humming "At the End of the Day."

Story: When Dex was Three
Author: Azriona
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5453
Author's Summary: Dex Tyler is three years old, and life is good. And then, one day, with absolutely no warning whatsoever (if Dex Tyler is to be believed), it isn’t. A one-shot in the Crossroads series, though can be read very well on its own.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler, Ianto Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, Martha Jones, Original Companion
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a story told from the point of view of Dex Tyler, three-year-old son of the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler. It's part of a larger set of stories but it can be read as a stand-alone, as no prior knowledge of the series is needed. What I love about this fic is how deftly the tale is told, with a strong respect for how seriously children take the world around them. Although filled with moments that are fluffy and warmly humorous, the fic manages to create an underlying and realistic tension, and it explores some very deep themes about loneliness and the meaning of family. As for Dex himself, he is an utterly charming original character who deserves to have his own series someday.

Story: Eugene's Alien
Author: [livejournal.com profile] azriona
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 372
Author's Summary: Eugene Jones wanted to meet an alien, more than anything in the world.
Characters/Pairings: Nine, Eugene
Warnings: None

Recced because: People either love or hate the Torchwood episode "Random Shoes" – and while I think it's got some problems, I still fall into the "love" camp on this one. Poor, nerdy Eugene never quite fit in, and this ficlet treats him very sympathetically, showing his sweetness, his intelligence, and his thirst for knowledge about the universe. [livejournal.com profile] azriona sketches out Eugene's character with remarkable completeness and crisp, deceptively simple language; by the end you'll wonder if Eugene's story might have turned out quite differently had he only realized who he'd met when he was eight years old.

This is my final rec for the week, so I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] calapine, first, for allowing me to come back and share some more of my favourites with you all, and [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey for her own recs this week. It's been a pleasure, and I hope that you've found at least one story this week that you've enjoyed.

Story: Pages from a Broken Book series - 14 separate single-part stories
Author: Azriona
Rated: Most individual stories rated All Ages; one rated Adult, one rated Teen
Word count: 26501 (most individual chapters between 1000-3000 words)
Author’s summary: He thinks of life as a book, every page a different story. His life, as he once knew it, is broken; these are the pages therein. Told from 10.5's POV.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (Duplicate 10th)
Warnings: None

Reason for Recommendation:
This, like The Devil You Know, is a post-Journey’s End story that sticks in my brain, because it makes me think. Fluffy, happy endings for the Duplicate Doctor and Rose are ten a penny. Stories where they have to work for their eventual happy ending are fewer, but still fairly plentiful. Stories where the author actually gets inside the Duplicate Doctor’s head to show us why this is practically a nightmare scenario for him, and not at all one where a kiss and a smile from Rose can make it all better, are very rare indeed. This one’s the best by far.

The Duplicate Doctor is half-human, which means he is also half-Time Lord. He’s been torn away from the only life he’s ever known, and from his constant companion, the TARDIS. Yes, he’s got Rose, but that’s not straightforward either because she’s still working out who he is to her compared with the original Doctor. This Doctor has no idea who he is; the only way he can define himself is that he’s not him, the original Doctor. He’s tied to one place and time, without even the final remnant of his own race and planet, and he’s suddenly genetically altered. [livejournal.com profile] azriona doesn’t make light of the Doctor’s adjustment trauma, or the way he’s trying the patience of those around him and, while he does eventually find his measure of peace with the life he’s been abandoned to, this story still makes my heart ache for him.
