Author's Summary: Every minute since he left had been a fight, a fight to not turn around and run back to her.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond/Rory Williams

Recced because: This angsty piece, about the Doctor trying and failing to travel without Amy, tugs at my heartstrings. The imagery in this fic is, in my opinion, well crafted, and the writing feels poetic to me.

I know, I know - I'm running late today! But let's see if I can get this in before the bell rings - yeah?

Story: You sheltered me from the storm
Author: Fate_Incomplete
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 3,683
Author's Summary: The first year in Stormcage had been the hardest, as River came to realise just how much time she would spend alone, waiting. Yet an unexpected friendship, and the ever expanding entries in her diary of adventures with the Doctor, made the sacrifice of keeping her secret worthwhile. She lived for the friendship and love of two men, but more importantly, she learned to live for herself. In the end, she made her life her own, and the legend of River Song grew in its own right.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, River Song, The Doctor (11th)
Warnings: Angst, Character Study, Crossover, Standalone

Recced because: I think part of what truly makes this show is the amazing characters that you find within it. In the end, the show (though centered around the Doctor, much as the characters are) is not about the Doctor. It is about other people, how they relate to him - what they mean to him and he to them. Two of the most enigmatic, engaging, funny and yet tormented characters are none other than Captain Jack Harkness and River Song. There have been many tales written about them meeting - all of them flirty or funny or dangerous or angst ridden. This fiction captures all of those aspects and so much more. The Doctor blips in now and again, but while he is the main drive of this tale, the center and main portions are lined around two people who love him in vastly different ways, for reasons that are opposing, yet similar all the same. These are two people who lives have been defined BY the Doctor - even when he is not there (especially when he is not there). They have more than common ground to meet on - and somehow, despite their ties (or maybe because of them), they forge a relationship separate from the Doctor, but made richer because of him. Honestly, this is one of my favorite writers - so you will always see one rec by me about her work. She has a beautiful grasp of character dynamics and settings that make you feel every moment, every word. I'm sure you've read other crossovers with Jack and River. But you haven't even touched on these two until you have read this one.

Story: I'll stop running for you
Author: fate_incomplete
Rating: Teen/PG-13
Word Count: 7,737
Author's Summary: The Doctor had meant to find Jack earlier than this. Younger, less broken, but this was where the TARDIS had taken him. He only wanted to say goodbye, but it ended up so much more complicated than that. The Doctor and Jack find each other briefly, before being torn apart by the events at Lake Silencio. Jack tries to drown his grief with anger, while the Doctor keeps running.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Eleventh Doctor, Mentions of other Canon Characters
Warnings: Angst, Character Study, Crossover, Hurt/Comfort

Recced because: Another phenomenal story from a phenomenal author! If you like your fic towards the Darker!Side fate_incomplete is one of the best authors out there for her stunning ability to reach into a characters darkest depths and yet spin a tale that not only draws those hidden aspects to the light, but it seems to make the character more of a WHOLE in a way you have never seen before. I'd like to think that's what sets apart each person/fiction I rec - the beautiful ways they have of seeing and drawing upon even one character alone that leaves you going 'Oh! I have never seen it quite that way before!' - and this author's fic does all that and more: This fiction is about loss and anger. Vengeance and forgiveness. Love and hate. And how those things can become so entwined, they can almost define us. But even those definitions are shallow once you start digging for what lies just underneath. This is a tale of two friends who have lost one another and yet keep finding each other - whether they wish to or not. It is about a love so deep that hate is the only way to wrench yourself from it, even as that hate drives you back to the source. There is no real way for me to describe this fiction and do it justice. Go.'ll be glad you did.
