Title: Head Over Heels
Author: Glinda
Rating: all ages
Word count: 1773
Characters/pairings: Clyde Langer/Dodo Chaplet
Author's summary: Holding hands, skipping stones and fighting aliens, who says romance is dead?
Warnings: none

Recced because: The random pairing generator can give us some truly cracky ideas that make for deliciously ridiculous crack!fic, but sometimes it also gives us cracky ideas that actually end up being weirdly plausible. This is just such a one. While it would never have occurred to me (or probably anyone) that Clyde Langer & Dodo Chaplet could make a good couple, in the infinite possibility of the vast timey-wimey Whoniverse, who’s to say that if Clyde travelled back in time & got stuck there for a while, he might not have met & hit it off with a nice young lady who knew as much about aliens as he did? This is a clever, breezy, yet truly touching story that makes this random pairing make sense, and bestows on Dodo the happier fate that she deserves as well. Go read it, and then you can win bets with your friends when you tell them, “yes, there is Dodo/Clyde fic, and it’s not even crack! Yes, for real! Bet you a fiver I’m telling the truth…” ;D

Story: Deus Ex Liborum (The Circle Has Six Sides)
Author: Glinda
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2672
Author's Summary: The Library contains all possible knowledge. The TARDIS contains all possible time and space. Never the twain should meet.
Characters/Pairings: The TARDIS, Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It’s a gorgeous, wonderfully mysterious, eerie, and beautiful TARDIS POV fic in which the TARDIS battles the Library on behalf of her Doctor and his companion. It explores the two entities, the TARDIS’s relationships with those she carries, and the power of stories and names, and it's an amazing piece.

Those who created her, had the power to tame stars, to shape time and space to their will. They paid a terrible price for their knowledge, to keep their secrets safe. Safe within their citadel sending their creations and their renegades out among the dreaming stars. Boxes within boxes, knowledge locked one with another like so many Russian dolls. A tiny part of the greater burden shared within each of them, and in each of their creations. She remembers so much that all others have forgotten, if she forgets they will be lost for ever, for good or ill she must remember.

Hi, I’m [ profile] daystarsearcher, but I’m known on Teaspoon as Daystar Searcher (truly, the breadth of my imagination is blinding). I’ll be your reccer for this week. I’ve watched all of New Who and SJA, and am currently working my way through Two and Seven’s eras, having finished Three and Four’s just a few months ago. I hope I’ve managed to put together a good mix of characters, pairings, genres, and ratings. The general arc of the recs will start out with some fun and happy stories, segue into some delicious angstiness, and then go out on a hopeful note.

Story: Go Places
Author: Glinda
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1245
Author's Summary: Her heart will always go one step too far; it's not only the Doctor who needs someone to tell him to stop.
Characters/Pairings: Iris Wildthyme/Rose Tyler
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I have a weakness for Pete's World fic; I also have a weakness for Iris Wildthyme. I hadn't ever considered those two elements being combined, but this story does an amazing job. I like this ending (or continuation) for Rose quite a bit more than the one we got in canon.

Recced because: As yesterday, this is a story about characters who've never met in canon - but really should. The author's summary should tell you the rest...

Story: Silence
Author: Glinda
Rating: Teen
Word count: 668
Author's summary: She lets her in, makes her tea, and finds some gin to lace it with, without a word.
Characters/pairings: Iris Wildthyme/Izzy Sinclair
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is a beautiful Iris piece, which is enough to make it noteworthy. What's really unusual about Silence, however, is that it isn't comedy. Iris Wildthyme, the most irrepressible character ever to drive a double-decker bus and hit on every incarnation of the Doctor ever to cross her path, is pretty much made for comedy. That's what makes this fic so heart-stopping: We never expected to see Iris like this, and we never wanted to see Iris like this. Because this is Iris immediately after the Doctor has pressed the switch, and there aren't many fics out there that can make the Time War this interesting to me, or so real. Add to that a beautifully rendered Iris/Izzy relationship, and you've got a winner.

Author's summary:Fey Truscott-Sade and Izzy Sinclair: Saving the World in Style
Characters/Pairings: Fey Truscott-Sade/Izzy Sinclair
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a somewhat self-indulgent rec, as it was the fic I received in this year's [ profile] dw_femslash ficathon. But it deserves a lot more attention than it's had, because it's very very good indeed, and the only reason I can think of for it largely seeming to pass fandom by is that not enough people are into the wonderfulness Doctor Who Magazine comic strip in general, or its awesome canon femslash pairing Fey/Izzy in particular. This fic gets these two companions of the other-other iteration Eighth Doctor just right, and in such a way that it serves perfectly well as an introduction to them (well, OK, it probably helps if you know that Fey is bonded with Shayde, a superpowerful construct from the Matrix, but I've just told you so there you go).

Go. Read. Be converted. Then go out and buy the collections.

Marvellous Martha Jones

I'm recommending Martha Jones-centric fics all this week but they're not all Martha/Ten.

Story: On the Road
Author: Glinda
Author summary: Professor Docherty isn't the only person Martha owes flowers. She didn't always walk the earth alone.
Characters: Second Doctor, Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones, Zoe Herriot
Rating: Adult
Warnings: Femslash
Word count: 6049

This is a very strong Year That Never Was story that features an older Zoe helping Martha: she discovers friendship and love, and remembers her own earlier travels with the Doctor. Zoe's her usual scientifically curious self, and her brief interaction with the Tenth Doctor is lovely and more than a little heart-breaking. This story is beautifully written and I first read it before I'd seen any of Zoe's serials, but now I've seen some, I love it even more.

But now with the 'gun' completed, there is little for her to do, except think of her next project. A lightning strike the previous week had brought down one of the evil little robots, and the resistance had brought it to her. It sits there in its clamp on her workbench taunting her. Martha is out, telling her story to the latest slave camp, spreading hope out ahead of her, the TARDIS’ universal translator ensuring her words reach the ears of her audience in the language they know and love best. Their current resistance contact is out acting as Martha’s guide and she’d promised not to work on the creature on her own. But her curiosity is eating at her. There’s a long night ahead of her until they return and her fears will only prey on her if she has nothing to focus on alone in her lab.
