Because apparently two recs today are not quite enough. ;) This brings me a little closer to my target of seven, anyway, and will be my last for this week. It's been a lot of fun!

Story: A Knight in Shining Armour
Author: atraphoenix
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1854
Author's Summary: “I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Life on Earth, after everything I’ve seen? How am I supposed to get back to normal?”
Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: A really gorgeous version of what happened between Sarah Jane and Harry after she left the TARDIS. My very favourite thing about this is that it has a brilliant twist part way through that just makes the whole piece and feels very real. There's lovely Harry characterization particularly, and Sarah Jane's is great too, and the ending is completely wonderful.

And another one to make up a little for my fail earlier in the week.

Story: Ocean-Going Ships
Author: livii
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1174
Author's Summary: Some cries for help are far less straightforward than others.
Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant/Rose Tyler, The TARDIS
Warnings: None

Recced because: This seems to be the week of femmeslash recs, which is always a good thing! This is a fascinating idea that has been put together brilliantly, and the language is absolutely beautiful, dreamy and haunting. It's a wonderful look at Rose and what she might have gone through during her dimension-jumping, and it has fantastic Jo voice. The last line in particular is just completely perfect.

Story: Aliens, Arguments, Showers, and Slime
Author: Settiai
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 900
Author's Summary: It's always easiest to blame Owen.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper/Toshiko Sato, Owen Harper, Ianto Jones
Warnings: None

Recced because: Gwen and Tosh are adorable, Owen is grouchy, and Ianto is snarky. It's just really cute and fun, and if this pairing had happened, this is how I'd have wanted to see it. It was written for [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000, which you should really check out if you haven't already because it's a great project (set up and run by the lovely author I'm reccing here) that's producing some fabulous fic for all sorts of pairings.

I'm so sorry for the gap in the recs. I had some health-related problems earlier in the week, but I'm fine now!

Story: Without a Hitch
Author: nonelvis
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2652
Author's Summary: Nine wakes up in Vegas married to one of his former companions.
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor/Sarah Jane Smith

Recced because: It's both awesomely fun and funny, with brilliant Nine voice. Lovely interactions between Nine and Sarah Jane, which make me really wish they'd met in canon at some point. It's set post School Reunion for Sarah Jane and in the gap at the end of Rose for Nine, and fits nicely into canon if you want it to. Which I do. ;D

Story: Being Educational
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 338
Author's Summary: Aliens demand that the Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe all share a bed. Zoe uses the chance to learn a few things.
Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon/The Doctor (2nd)/Zoe Herriot
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It's sweet and very, very funny - I giggled all the way through it. It's wonderfully in-character, and really captures the OT3 element perfectly. Worth reading even if you're not familiar with this era, because it'll actually give you a great idea of the joy that is Two, Zoe and Jamie.

Story: From the Ashes
Author: Selenay
Rating: All Ages.
Word Count: 2772
Author's Summary: Maria rescues the girl and discovers that what you planned isn't always how things work out.
Characters/Pairings: Maria Jackson/Romana II, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None.

Recced because: The recent [livejournal.com profile] dw_femslash ficathon produced some fantastic fic, and I'm probably going to end up reccing a fair bit of it! This one wasn't a pairing I'd have imagined enjoying before, but was unexpectedly completely lovely and this fic makes it work perfectly. It's sweet, poignant and fun, with great characterization and voices for all three main characters. The interactions between Maria and Romana are just wonderful, and the ending makes me smile every time I read it.

Story: Le quattro stagioni (The Four Seasons)
Author: eponymous_rose
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2260
Author's Summary: Four seasons with the Doctor, with the TARDIS, and with the impossible.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor, Harry Sullivan, K-9, Romana II, Sarah Jane Smith,
Warnings: None

Recced because: Four snapshots that beautifully capture TARDIS life, using the most gorgeous, evocative language. The characters are all wonderful, with brilliant Sarah Jane and Harry, and it's particularly notable for having an absolutely perfect Fourth Doctor voice, which is often difficult to find in fic. This one is really all about the way it's written, because it is just spellbinding.

Story: The Ten Weddings of Donna Noble
Author: Netgirl_y2k
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1919
Author's Summary: Donna has to marry the Doctor. All of them.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Tenth Doctor, Ninth Doctor, Eighth Doctor, Seventh Doctor, Sixth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Fourth Doctor, Third Doctor, Second Doctor, First Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This does exactly what it says on the tin, and is utterly brilliant for it. It's gloriously cracky-awesome fun, and is absolutely hysterical, with an amazing selection of mad-but-plausible reasons for the weddings. Donna is her fabulous self, and each of the Doctors is perfectly in-character. My personal favourite is the Third Doctor one, but they're all fantastic!

Story: The Miseducation of Romanadvoratrelundar (or Two Cobblemice in One Snug Hole)
Author: Biichan
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 857
Author's Summary: His future self's words were blunt and to the point: “Seduce Romanadvoratrelundar.”
Characters/Pairings: Irving Braxiatel, Romana I, Braxiatel/Romana I
Warnings: Slight spoilers for Gallifrey: Lies.

Recced because: I had another rec lined up for today, but I read this this morning and knew immediately that I was going to rec this instead. It has absolutely spot-on perfect characterization for both Romana and Braxiatel and makes the pairing and the fact that it could have happened this way feel not only plausible, but undeniable. Simple, direct and very funny, it's another fic that has instantly entered my personal canon. Which seems to be my theme for this week. ;) If you've listened to the Big Finish Gallifrey audio series, you really do need to read this!

Story: The Great Bikini Incident (The Key to Time Remix)
Author: Doyle
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1692
Author's Summary: Dawn Summers is suspicious of the three electricity inspectors outside her sister’s Rome apartment. Buffy crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler, Ninth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: It uses the most wonderfully obvious possible connections between the Whoniverse and the Buffyverse and is epic amounts of fun. The dialogue is brilliant, the storyline is great and it made me laugh out loud. I would dearly love for this to have been canon, and am rather sad that it has since been contradicted by the Buffy comics. Doyle used to write a lot in Buffy fandom, so Dawn's voice is perfect and her descriptions of the Doctor and Jack shouldn't be missed! And neither, for that matter, should the truly awesome ending.
ext_23741: (dw - 7 & Ace)
[identity profile] carawj.livejournal.com
Story: From the Ashes
Author: Wiccagirl24
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2313
Author's Summary: In the fourth year of the great Time War Ace McShane died. It should have been the end of her story, but it wasn't.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: Spoilers for Journey's End.

Recced because: I've taken this as my personal canon until proven otherwise. It covers what might have happened to Ace during the Time War gorgeously tragically, and then it slots her into New Who in a way that makes perfect sense. Parts are wonderfully surreal and strange, but Ace's voice remains strong and completely true throughout. The whole thing is haunting and beautifully written, and manages to be angsty in a good way, but still uplifting.

Story: Linear Loop
Author: agapi42
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 956
Author's Summary: Living a linear life just means that time travel takes a bit longer.
Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry/Sarah
Warnings: None

Recced because: This manages, in so few words, to be the definitive version for me of what happened between Harry and Sarah Jane right after she left the Doctor. It somehow conveys Sarah Jane's emotions brilliantly, in lovely, simple language that doesn't go over the top and isn't too angsty or flowery. And there's a fantastic example of wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey that actually works and makes sense and is quite, quite wonderful.
