Story: Queens
Author: Penny
Rating: A
Word Count: 4632
Author's Summary: "Honestly, Charley, I leave you alone for one afternoon and you get arrested for grand larceny!" Charley was just minding her own business in the lobby of the Hotel Delilah when a perfect stranger took her by the arm and declared that they were married. Now she's fallen in with a jewel thief and things are getting very silly indeed.
Characters/Pairings: Charley Pollard/Clara Oswald, Eighth Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It has Clara, Charley, fake relationships, and a jewel heist and it’s every bit as much fun as that sounds. Do I really need to say more? Don’t walk, run; it's a joy…

Title: One Out of Three Isn't Bad
Author: Daystar Searcher
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 696
Author's Summary: Missy decides to go back in time and seduce Three's companions. It doesn't entirely go as expected.
Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant, Liz Shaw, Sarah Jane Smith, Missy
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recc'ed Because: Because of course Missy would decide to go back to her old stomping grounds in an attempt to overpower and entrance the Doctor's old companions. And it goes about as well as you'd expect. This short little story has perfect character voices and is equal parts sexy and hilarious and yes, because it's Missy, also a tiny bit chilling.

Story: The Two Romanas
Author: Lurky McLurklurk
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 4695
Author's Summary: When Romana comes back from E-Space to a universe where she never regenerated, the consequences expand exponentially, for the universe and herself.
Characters/Pairings: Romana I/Romana II, K-9
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: Reccer's Notes: I consider this fic to be the cleverest selfcest fic I've ever read in Who fandom. In this fic, the Romana II of canon, the one who left the (Fourth) Doctor to do work in E-Space, leaves E-Space for Gallifrey, only to find this Romana I in this fanfic, one that never regenerated and stayed on Gallifrey.

Story: Mother's Day
Author: Nancy Brown
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1224
Author's Summary: It should've been her.
Characters/Pairings: Alice Carter/Jenny ("The Doctor's Daughter")
Warnings: None

Recced because: Alice and Jenny are a small rarepair, but they have a few fans, and every fic I've ever read with them seems plausible because of how abrupt their endings were in their shows (Torchwood: Children of Earth and "The Doctor's Daughter" episode of Doctor Who). They're also one of the few Whoniverse pairings I don't mind looking for babyfic for, in part because F/F babyfic in general is so rare to find. Here, Alice is tormented with thoughts about not being the surrogate mother for a princess as well as thoughts about losing her son. Jenny is there to ease Alice's pain. I love their interactions here--everything between these two makes me smile.

Recced because: Yes, this fic is short. But this fic was the first Clara/Missy fic I liked. I felt their dynamic in this fic was similar to their dynamic in canon, and I could see this as a missing scene that could have taken place before "The Bells of Saint John."

Characters/Pairings: Zoe Heriot, Isobel Watkins (from The Invasion)
Warnings: None

Recced because: This fic was published only a few days ago, but its concept already got my attention. Not only does it have an interesting premise (if Zoe had stayed with the Doctor up until the events of Inferno) but the dialogue is very in-character and the characterization of mirrorverse! Isobel is fantastic (and a little frightening),

Hi! I'm [ profile] merryghoul. I'm also on Teaspoon as merryghoul (my work there was formerly under a different name). I'll be with you for the next two weeks as this comm's reccer.

For this reccing period, barring one exception, I really wanted to highlight people who haven't been recced before or have been recced less than a handful of times on this comm. Several of these works have been lingering in my fic bookmarks for years, and I'm just getting to rec them now. I blame myself for not reccing a lot of these fics earlier.

With that said, here's my first rec of the reccing period.

Story: The Moth People
Author: Ember Keelty

Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper/Suzie Costello
Warnings: no standard warnings apply

Recced because: What if Suzie's resurrection glove never lost its connection after Suzie's second death in "They Keep Killing Suzie?" And why is Gwen not resisting this connection at all? I've always liked this fic's take on what could've happened after "They Keep Killing Suzie" for years now, and I'm finally happy I can rec it for Calufrax today.

Title: I've been doing bad things
Author: Penny
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2507
Author's Summary: "This is Doctor Zoe Heriot, senior technician aboard station seven. Making my final report. Experiment Zeta is a failure." Zoe's in the middle of sacrificing herself to save the earth from a hoard of the undead when she's rescued by a mysterious blonde girl with a homemade energy-weapon. Or, Zoe and Jenny team up to fight zombies.
Characters/Pairings: Zoe Heriot, Jenny, Zoe/Jenny
Warnings: None

Recc'ed Because: Ummm... it's Zoe and Jenny fighting zombies? Do you need more? I love the character voices and the humor and descriptions and the frenetic pace and plot, and the fact that the author gives an entirely earnest and believable (within the DW universe) take on the base-under-siege trope with "artificially reanimated corpses". It's fun and hilarious and action-packed and as sweet as sweet can be when your first date is being rescued from a zombie horde.

Story: So Our Story Goes
Author: MissNessarose
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1918
Characters/Pairings: Mel/Ace
Author's Summary: They meet ten years later, and perhaps by chance—but Ace knows that she won't let this chance simply pass her by. And so she doesn't.

Recced Because:

It's chicken soup for the soul.

In canon, Mel goes off with Glitz and who knows what happens to Ace. This fic picks up ten years later. It doesn't try to explain what happened in the interval, only that Mel is back on Earth now and Ace is running a charity. They meet by chance. Then they keep meeting on purpose.

This is a beautiful bit-by-bit romance, which grows organically with Mel and Ace slowly coming to the conclusion that all of their friends, and neighbours, and co-workers reached almost from the beginning. It's Ace appreciating Mel for her voice and crazy hair, not in spite of them. It's Mel solving problems. It's Ace making explosions. It's afternoons at the movies and walks in the park. It's the small moments which don't seem significant on their own, but, cumulatively, have more power than all the Nitro-9 in the universe. It's two people falling in love and it's beautiful.

I'm [ profile] ffutures, Marcus Rowland at Calufrax, and I'll be reccing for the next couple of weeks. I'm going to try for my usual mix of old and new Who, including spin-offs, crossovers and some authors who haven't been seen here before. Let's start with a nice New Who fix-it.

Story: Stories, songs, and gallant girls
Author: Kit
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 9219
Author's Summary: River Song rights a wrong, and finds herself rather charmed in the process.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Jenny Flint, Madame Vastra, River Song, The Doctor (11th), The Ood
Warnings: Explicit Sex, Alternate Universe

Recced because: I'm a sucker for fix-it stories, and one of the biggest things to fix in New Who is the problem of Donna. This story, by an author who hasn't been recced here before, romps through that via a relationship between Donna and River Song. Along the way it visits Oodspace, Victorian London, 1920s Germany, and other fun locations. I'm not sure it says anything especially profound, except that the Doctor should fix his own problems, it's just a lot of fun.

Word Count: 2,872
Author's Summary: “Transmogrification gun”, the box says, and Hex doesn’t think much of it.
Characters/Pairings: Ace/Hex, Seventh Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is another one that caught my eye in the queue, and I immediately knew I had to rec it someday. Ace is so very Ace in this story, fierce yet playful, first seducing Hex into using the transmogrification gun Ace has already grown quite comfortable with, then seducing Hex himself. Genderswap can be tough to pull off effectively without falling into stereotype territory, but that never happens here; each character remains recognizably themselves, no matter what body they're in, and takes pleasure in discovering the thrill of the new – and how surprisingly comfortable it can become.

Story: A Change Is As Good As A Rest
Author: Netgirl_y2k

Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Rose Tyler (Donna/Rose)
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It's an AU for Journey's End where the Doctor!Donna stays in Rose's dimension instead of the duplicate Doctor, and it's by turns hilarious and poignant.  The snippets of their lives that we get weave together to make the whole thing so believable.  The humour is pretty perfect too - "It was Christmas day. Rose had grown to hate Christmas, or, as it was known in the rest of the galaxy, Let’s Invade the Earth Day." - and the core friendship/relationship grows in a gorgeous way.  Plus, the ending.  I'd say more about it but...spoilers.  Go and read it to find out!

Author’s Summary: She's a teenage rebel with a taste for explosives. She's a voice with an Internet connection. Together, they fight terrorists!
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane/Oswin Oswald
Warnings: None

Recced because: Okay, I admit it, I have long carried an enormous girlcrush on Ace. This is the woman who brings a rope ladder and homemade explosives with her on Doctor-related adventures. This is the woman who waltzes through her one encounter with the Daleks and gives no flips, because she can just beat them up with her electrified baseball bat, or blow them up with her Nitro-9, or – oh, kind UNIT solider, is that rocket launcher for me? It is?

Then the show introduced Oswin Oswald, who I immediately fell down and worshipped as The Second Coming of Ace. They’re snarky, they’re competent, and they’re not going to let a bunch of rolling salt shakers with eggbeaters for hands get them down, amirite?

And then amazing author johne had them team up to fight terrorists, with sass, verve and style. The poor terrorists never stood a chance.

Story: Five Time Romanadvoratrelundar Missed the Signs, and One Time She Couldn't Possibly Ignore Them
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6484

Characters/Pairings: Romana II, The Doctor (4th), Irving Braxiatel, Narvin, Leela, K9
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: This is just a joy to read.  The Gallifrey audios are my favourite corner of Doctor Who, and fic that deals with them is relatively hard to come by (although of unwavering quality).  The tale of Romana's many thwarted admirers makes for a genuinely funny story that nevertheless stays perfectly in character.  Part of JaneTurenne's gift is the uncanny ability to make every single line of dialogue she writes sound like it belongs in the characters' voices, and this is no exception: from the Doctor's theatrical boom to Leela's earnest directness, the dialogue sparkles with wit and humour.  One to bookmark and reread.

Recced because: Brigadier Emily Chaudhry is from the excellent Big Finish UNIT audios. Jo Grant, is, of course, our lovely and beautiful Jo Grant. Together they team up to save the world from Ogrons and go travelling in the TARDIS and do a little kissing. This little bite of a story is just so cute, and funny, and perfectly in character. The prompts for this story were “secret spaces” and “touch is the revolution”, and exploring these concepts through Erimem and her relationship with Peri is perfect. Author's Summary: In which Chrissie Jackson learns how to save the world without needing high heels.
Characters/Pairings: Chrissie Jackson/Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I only watched a little of the Sarah Jane Adventures, but the awesomeness of this story extends beyond my brief canon knowledge. If you're similarly unfamiliar, here's all you need to know: The premise is that Sarah Jane saves the world with the assistance of a bunch of kids. Chrissie Jackson is the mother of one of those kids - she doesn't know much about aliens, but she has managed to save the world with her high heels. Also she never remembers Sarah Jane's name. This fic goes from that basis into the future, with a bunch of cameos from other characters and aliens and a cute developing relationship between Chrissie and Sarah Jane.

Characters/Pairings: Other Character(s)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I'm a great fan of the Eleventh Doctor's best non-companions, Madame Vastra and Jenny. She's a Silurian, she's her human servant / lover, together they fight... all sorts of things. Unfortunately there aren't many stories about them on Calufrax, this is in my opinion the best, in which Madame Vastra reflects on her life with Jenny, shows some of the concerns we usually only see with the Doctor and his companions, and with the Doctor's help they make life a little better for a historical figure.

Warnings: None

Recced because: I love stories where the Time War’s effect on people other than the Doctor is explored. Also there’s timey-wimeyness, and femslash, and the connection between memory, reality, and myth. It’s deceptively simple and says a lot with a small amount of words.

Warnings: None (albeit, rather creepy at times).

Recced because: I must have said it before. But I love the stories that explore the darker side of the Seventh Doctor's period. Unlike most of them, this one isn't exactly about the Seventh Doctor, or his period. This one introduced to Ace long after she's left the Doctor, and instead of exploring the implication of his actions, gives a snapshot of how they still influence his companions, long after he's left them. And it manages to do it with humour and charm, so I was completely sold.

Story: Catch Me A Catch
Author: Queen of the Castle
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2043
Author's Summary: Sarah Jane looked at Rose and saw herself back before the Doctor had broken her heart. And even though Sarah Jane had finally seen what the Doctor looked like when he was in love – a look Sarah Jane now accepted would never be directed at her – she wondered whether it was going to be enough.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, Mickey Smith, Tenth Doctor; minor Rose/Ten, Rose/Sarah Jane, (one-sided) Sarah Jane/Ten

Recced because: " could come with us." The line that prompted a million AUs! Well, not exactly - but it should have, because what would have been better than Sarah Jane back in the TARDIS? This take on it specifically explores Rose and Sarah Jane's relationship with the two of them as companions (a dynamic further complicated by the Doctor being stubborn and oblivious). The friction between Rose and Sarah is wonderful; even as they become close - and closer! - Sarah struggles to adapt to this new generation of the TARDIS crew, and to define the limits of both old and new relationships.

Author's Summary: Martha explains a few things to Maria, and learns the temptations of open doors.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Maria Jackson; hints of Martha/Maria, Sarah Jane/Maria (one-sided)
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: I'm a sucker for any fic that crosses over the SJA crew with the Doctor's companions. This fic not only does that, but it presents a totally different take on the mentor/student relationship that is too easy to fall into when writing about the SJA gang. This particular story explores Maria's quasi-canon crush on Sarah Jane (no easy feat, even when Maria is older, as she is in this fic); Martha finds herself in a curious role somewhere between friend, big sister figure, and suddenly, possibly, something more. The two characters may not be on equal ground, but they're both in unexplored territory, and the tension is built deliciously and believably. I also love the way the author incorporates Torchwood and specifically Jack, who never appears but inevitably comes up in conversation.

Story: The Road Untraveled
Author: Daystar Searcher
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1424
Author's Summary: Just because you part ways with someone doesn't mean they stop influencing your life, as Ace, Mags, and the Doctor find out.
Characters/Pairings: Ace/Mags, Seventh Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Third Doctor, Frobisher, Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Second Doctor, Martha Jones, Rani Chandra.
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Well. Two recs in two days that feature a suspiciously similar long and strange list of ingredients? What are the chances? There is an explanation, which lies in a recent challenge I made, using 12 prompts that could be played with individually, or together. (And I had no idea what yesterday's rec would be, but I was delighted - I can now rec the other, utterly amazing resulting fic containing all 12 here today.)

What I never envisaged was that someone could take all twelve and write a beautiful, short and serious fic that ties them all together. It should be impossible, but, as it turns out, if the writer is as talented as Daystar Searcher, it suddenly becomes perfectly natural and coherent. The main strand of the story follows Ace and Mags and their separate fortunes and whether either or both regret not staying with each other, but it doesn’t forget to include Welsh myths, vampires, evil giraffes, Rani Chandra, Frobisher etc. etc.. It’s amazing. Really. I could stand here and flail a little more about how impressed I am, but you’d be much better off running away to read it now. So, go; read!

Story: Conserved Relationships in the Sum over Histories
Author: Lurky McLurklurk
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1826
Author's Summary: Rani/Maria futurefic. Or one-of-many-possible-futures fic, anyway. (Also background Luke/Clyde.)
Characters/Pairings: Rani Chandra/Maria Jackson
Warnings: None

Recced because: There's a certain genre of fic out there that probably has a specific term to describe it, but since I don't know the term, I'll call it "let's pair these two characters who never met in canon and see what happens" fic. At first glance, this may seem like one of those fics. But it's not. Or rather, it is, but it's also much, much more.

You see, in Sarah Jane Adventures canon, both Rani and Maria encountered a puzzle-box that keeps people from experiencing the effects of changes in the timeline. Lurky McLurklurk takes that fact and runs with it, telling a tale of what it's like to live your life while around you timelines change, and your memories change with them, but still you're somehow aware of what's going on. The story is very well written, and absolutely fascinating to read, but the icing on the cake is the beautiful portrayal of the Rani/Maria romance (who are both adults in the fic). In the end, this is a story of truly timeless love, and it makes me sad that Rani and Maria never did properly meet in canon. But at least we have this fanfic.

Story: In The Blood
Author: Lurky McLurklurk
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 9267
Author's Summary: For Ace McShane, P.I., her latest case brings her face to face with her own past.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane/Mel Bush

Recced because: Uh, did you see that summary? Ace McShane, Private Eye. I mean, yes, okay, I could also talk about the seamless integration of sci-fi tropes into a film noir setting, or the fine detail woven throughout that makes this version of 1930s San Francisco come alive in fascinating and entrancing ways. And I suppose I could mention how wonderfully in-character Ace and Mel are, and how tender and sweet their love story is. But honestly, if the words "Ace McShane, Private Eye" didn't make you want to click that link, then the only explanation is that your brain has shorted out after being overloaded with excess amounts of awesome.

I mean, seriously. Ace McShane. Private Eye.

"Perhaps you're not aware of your reputation, Miss McShane."

"Oh, I have lots of reputations," Ace said. "Which one were you talking about?"

"That for all your ... eccentricity"--she gave Ace an appraising glance that was clearly supposed to indicate that wearing a suit was the height of bizarre behaviour--"you're the best person to go to for situations involving strange phenomena. The sort of thing the San Francisco Police Department simply don't know how to deal with."

"These lights and sounds ... It's not just electric lights and people shifting things around, is it?"

"I don't know how much credence to give to some of the wilder reports," Westerfield said. "But if even half of them are true ..."

"Very well. I charge two hundred dollars a day," Ace said. "Plus expenses." That was from a film, but one of the first things Ace had learned when she'd set up shop was that her clients had just as little clue about what the going rate was as she did. Hiring a detective wasn't the sort of thing you did everyday, after all.

Author's Summary: "Time is a cruel thief to rob us of our former selves." Sometimes time gives something back. (Amelia Rumford/Vivien Fay from The Stones of Blood.)
Characters/Pairings: Amelia Rumford/Vivien Fay
Warnings: None

Recced because: One of the real pleasures to be had from Doctor Who over its many years, in my opinion, is its great supporting characters. Some of them are heroes, some of them are villains, some act as pseudo-companions for one story only and some are only bit-part players, but so many of them, thanks to that hard-to-quantify combination of writing and actor that Who manages to pull off uncannily often, are unforgettable creations, their legends carrying on in fandom to the extent that it's easy to forget that their actual screentime was so limited. And so it is with The Stones of Blood, a very strong story, imo, even if late-period Tom Baker doesn't appeal to all fans, and one that I like a great deal. One of the most interesting things about it is the portrayal of the two guest characters around which this story revolves, because while the kinds of things that people felt comfortable referencing in family television programmes have obviously changed over the intervening 30+ years, on the face of it the relationship between the two doesn't really seem ambiguous at all.

This story is a very fine exploration of the two characters, beautifully written and building on what the TV story showed us of Professor Rumford and Vivien and their life together. It's also a story about fractured time and people living their lives out of synch with each other in a way that seems to happen more often in the Whoniverse than you might think, as well as managing to make a couple of good points about feminist historical theory and matriarchy versus patriarchy. The centrepiece of it, though, is the subtle and well-rounded treatment of the two characters - it underlines the somewhat ambivalent ending of the TV story and will possibly make you think that while Four was probably doing what needed to be done, it was still a bit harsh of him. So go and read this and leave a review, because this story deserves more attention, I think.

The [ profile] dw_femslash ficathon just happened over at that comm, so I figured I'd rec something awesome from ficathons past.

Story: Escapology
Author: birdsarecalling
Rating: teen
Word Count: 4,794
Author's Summary: Donna Noble's stuck inside her own head. What she needs is a little escapology. (Donna/Jo Grant)
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble/Jo Grant, Sylvia Grant, Wilfred Mott, Mike Yates, Shaun Temple
Warnings: none

Recced because: This fic is adorable. I feel like 'Donna meets old companion' may be a trope (and one that I've written recently, hm), but this is the defining one of those fics for me. Partly this fic is about Donna coming back from having her memory taken by the Doctor, partly it's about what Jo does as she gets older, and there's a tiny bit in there that's somehow about Mike Yates and is so good. This whole fic is so good - a really nice melding of new and old school Who.

Hi, I’m [ profile] daystarsearcher, but I’m known on Teaspoon as Daystar Searcher (truly, the breadth of my imagination is blinding). I’ll be your reccer for this week. I’ve watched all of New Who and SJA, and am currently working my way through Two and Seven’s eras, having finished Three and Four’s just a few months ago. I hope I’ve managed to put together a good mix of characters, pairings, genres, and ratings. The general arc of the recs will start out with some fun and happy stories, segue into some delicious angstiness, and then go out on a hopeful note.

Story: Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before
Author: Glinda
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2754
Author's Summary: You know the one about the lizard with the eight-foot tongue? No? (Madame Vastra/Jenny)
Characters/Pairings: Madame Vastra/Jenny
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: not sure if mentioning two awesome side characters counts as a Good Man Goes to War spoiler, but just in case )

Story: Go Places
Author: Glinda
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1245
Author's Summary: Her heart will always go one step too far; it's not only the Doctor who needs someone to tell him to stop.
Characters/Pairings: Iris Wildthyme/Rose Tyler
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I have a weakness for Pete's World fic; I also have a weakness for Iris Wildthyme. I hadn't ever considered those two elements being combined, but this story does an amazing job. I like this ending (or continuation) for Rose quite a bit more than the one we got in canon.

Hey, hi! I'm neveralarch, and I'm going to be your reccer this week. It's going to be mostly fic based on the Big Finish audio series, but there will probably be some other areas of the fandom represented as well. I hope you'll check the stories out even if you're not familiar with the specific source material - they're all really good.

Anyway! On to the fic.

Story: The Storyteller
Author: atraphoenix
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2969
Author's Summary: Leela's stories begin with one Time Lord and end with another.
Characters/Pairings: Leela/Romana II, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I read this fic before I listened to the Gallifrey audio series and before I watched almost any of Four, back when I only had a vague idea of who Romana or Leela were. This fic serves as a lovely introduction to both of their characters, and Leela in particular. Leela's struggle to live in and to change Gallifreyan society is depicted without shying away from the difficulties. But Leela doesn't lose hope, even at the bittersweet end.

Story: To Her Coy Mistress
Author: kaydee falls
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 6862
Author's Summary: In which there are interrupted heists, chance encounters, snogging, and headaches over verb tenses. A non-linear love story. (Christina/Jenny)
Characters/Pairings: Jenny, Lady Christina de Souza, Jack Harkness, Reinette; Jenny/Christina
Warnings: None given

Recced because: This is actually the first fic I found on Teaspoon that I loved. The pairing isn't one I'd have thought of, but it really works, and the prose is lovely. The angst here kind of hits you in waves, as more and more of the tangled timeline is revealed. Read it twice for extra tragedy. (And if angst isn't your thing the way it's mine, don't let that deter you: this is also a free-wheeling adventure story.)

Story: Time to Get Away
Author: netgirl_y2k
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2435
Author's summary: In which there are flesh eating plants, drunken one night stands and Donna discovers that there are more mad time travellers calling themselves the Doctor than she's really comfortable with.
Characters: Donna Noble, Five, Tegan, Turlough. (Donna/Tegan but anything explicit goes on off-camera, as it were)
Warnings: none given

Recced because: Written way back in July of 2007 for the [ profile] dw_femslash ficathon on lj. I can't even remember if we knew Donna was going to be the next companion by then; it was only 2 weeks or so after Last of the Time Lords aired. All we'd seen of Donna was the Runaway Bride, but thankfully, that was plenty of material to go on for those of us who already loved her :) [ profile] netgirl_y2k hits the ground running with this story and it just. gets. funnier. Seriously, I had a hard time picking an excerpt because I wanted to quote the whole thing. Its tone reads like crack-fic but the fact of the matter is, it's actually scarily plausible. Even if you don't usually go for femslash, read this story, especially if you need a laugh (it's totally worth it just for the description of the TARDIS noise at the end). And the ending itself is great fun and just the slightest bit prescient for series four.

So Primsong has already done her first rec, but since it's still Sunday in my time zone, I figured I'd do my last. And since Remix Redux just opened their archives today, I thought I'd rec a remix done two years ago (which is coincidentally the first time I participated.)

Story: Superb (The Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak remix)
Author: LizBee
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1913
Author's summary: Romana has improved on the Doctor's technique by quite a bit.
Characters/Pairings: Romana/Strella/Reinhardt, Romana/Mel, Romana/Tosh, Romana/Harry, Romana/Simm!Master, Romana/Lucy, Romana/Sarah Jane, Romana/Martha, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: no actual on-screen sex (though there's plenty of implying)

Recced because: It's silly, naughty, and just plain fun, not mention pretty darn funny as well. I especially enjoyed the running gag about week-long Time Lady orgasms. (The story it remixes, Livii's she'll be superb is fun as well, but Magicallaw already recced it two years ago.)

Everything you ever heard about Time Lord sexuality, or the nonexistence thereof, is a lie.

Okay, historically it's true that Time Lords were a bit repressed. The grandeur and majesty of the heritage of Rassilon didn't exactly lend itself to elaborate scenes of debauchery. But these days, there are only a handful of Time Lords around, and it's safe to say the species is, as a whole, pretty damn sexy. If a skinny man in a suit offers you a ride in his phone box, you'd best pack your good knickers. If a dapper madman takes you out dancing, you should resign yourself to the inevitability of a night of passion and bad pop music. If a sweet-looking blonde gives you a flirtatious look over the rim of her cocktail glass--

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Story: About-Face
Author: Viridian5
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2843
Author's Summary: Here, the manipulators and manipulated are one and the same.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Turlough, Tegan/Nyssa
Warnings: None

Recced because: I've always found Terminus an interesting story, and About-Face handles the aftermath brilliantly, from the points of view of Tegan and Turlough.

Tegan's reactions and Turlough's motives are deftly explored, and the Doctor is characterised perfectly, from his wry bickering with Tegan to his determined concern for Turlough.
