Rec: Runaways by the_tenzo
Story: Runaways
Author: the_tenzo
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3161
Author's summary: In the summer of 2011, my grandmother died, my mum had an affair, and the Smiths moved in next door.
Characters: The Doctor (Duplicate 10th), original character
Warnings: none
Recced because: This astoundingly lovely story somehow manages to make me smile and put me right on the verge of tears, all at the same time. The story features no invading aliens, no mystery, and hardly any of the Doctor: it's just an honest tale about growing up (and running away). The Doctor's limited presence injects a special sort of magic to it -- and, let's be honest, who wouldn't have loved to have the Doctor as a next door neighbor?
"Running away, it's sort of my speciality." He pronounced the final word with five syllables. "I've been told that it's what I do best, and I'm not sure I'd want to dispute that. It's good to strive for goals, isn't it?"
