rec: Bad Medicine

Story: Bad Medicine
Author: Weatherwax
Rating: G
Word Count: 24267
Charactors: The Tenth Doctor
Author's Summary: The Doctor learns that school is hell, but detention is worse. Takes place immediately after "Journey's End." A solo adventure.

Recced because: This is an amazing fic, but be warned: it's lacking the last chapter. Even with that, it's just amazing. The last chapter would be nice, but you know that it would be wrap up. This is one of those fics that would have been wonderful as an episode. Actually, to me, it *is* an episode. So pass it by if you can't bare unfinished fics, but I suggest that you go for it. You won't be sorry and if you're anything like me, you'll love the hell out of it, missing last chapter and all.

I agree that I love the story to bits, but it is really an abrupt WIP. I don't even know that it's only missing one chapter actually. I've had it in my favorites forever; I do wish that the author would finish it!

Aw, man! I wish this fic was finished. Such a good story and one of the stories that really showed me how good fanfiction could be (yes, I'm rather knew to this whole world). I actually tried to hunt down further info: were there any subsequent chapters, what were the author's plans to finish or why they weren't finishing, etc. I'm a librarian, and I couldn't help but do some kind of research. Sadly, no luck.

I actually worry a little about the writers who disappear from fandom, without finishing their work. What happened to them? Did something devastating happen in their real life? Did they die?! Is it simply because they didn't get enough feedback/comments and they thought their work wasn't appreciated? And then I feel even MORE guilty for not leaving reviews on every single story I've ever read.

What do authors look for in reviews? Is a shot "I really like this!" satisfying? Do you want me to point out grammatical/spelling/clarity errors? I guess I just need to relax and work on leaving comments and I'll eventually get better at it.

Personally I like both short and long comments. By all means point out mistakes if you spot them (even beta-readers are human and fallible!) - but when I'm commenting on a fic, I always start by saying something positive, before I point out any errors - and I usually say something along the lines of "Sorry to mention" or "My inner beta-reader/Brit-picker notes..." before pointing out the errors.

(I once had a review which started in with someone's very picky comments before saying anything nice, and I felt like the commenter had slapped me - also she was American and I'm British, so half her points weren't even valid because the two versions of English have different styles, etc.!)
