Recced because: Rounding out the week, here's a beautifully angsty fic featuring one of my favorite pairings, Five/Turlough. Poor Turlough has jumped to conclusions and thinks he must serve a particular purpose to be allowed to stay aboard the TARDIS. The Doctor, of course, has no idea what Turlough's thinking. If you like this short and powerful story, check out the companion piece, Delusions.

Tegan is his foil. His grounding. Her voice grates, but it forces the Doctor to slow, to think. To explain his reasoning, the way his mind works and through these explanations he gains greater clarity of thought. Strong in her own right, she is an equal to his will.

Everyone on the TARDIS has to have a function. To be of use.
