It is difficult to write effective poetry, and I think that difficulty is probably magnified when you're writing fic and poetry together. This short bit of verse is not only effective, it is also incredibly affecting. The Doctor needs his companions. They are special to him. They are, after a thousand years, the only mystery worth solving.
