Recced because: Following the emotionally riveting Father's Day, we have The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, where Nine and Jack meet and don't like or trust each other very much. Right on the heels of that, we have Boomtown, where Nine and Jack seem like incredibly good friends. There's quite a canonical gap there!! This wonderful canon-consistent fic ties all four of these episodes together in a wonderful package. This fic gave me everything I never knew I wanted in terms of context for Nine and Jack's friendship, and is a VERY insightful reevaluation of Father's Day, to boot! This wonderful story makes the close bond we see in late s1 make more sense, and it provides some good character development for both of them. I highly recommend this fic - especially to any fan of s1, any Jack fan, and anyone who counts Father's Day among their favorite episodes.

Very probably my favorite "Jack joins Team TARDIS" story... because we get to see the bedrock of Jack's (never really reluctant) heroism. Because the Doctor's innate (and usually well-deserved) arrogance takes an honest hit - especially after the high of "just this once, Rose, everybody lives". And, of course, Rose is the catalyst for it all...

Oh, Lord, I want to read this now. Had I but world enough, time, and no midterms! ;) Nine/Rose/Jack is forever my OT3, and I think I fit into every category you named. Definitely going on my to-read list!
