Story: Cluster-Bombing
Author: Prochytes
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3,410
Author's Summary: (Crossover with "Sense8"): Five times Torchwood ran into the cluster, and one time they didn't.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Jack Harkness, and the Sense8 characters Will, Riley, Nomi, Amanita, Lito, Hernando, Sun, and Mr. Whispers

Recced because: How often do you see a Sense8/Torchwood crossover? I know this is the only one I've seen, and it's got everything I love in a Torchwood story -- specifically, Gwen Cooper being a take-no-prisoners badass -- as well as the most vital part of any fanfic (for me, anyway) -- specifically, characters who sound like themselves. Prochytes nails each sensate's voice, and the whole story feels so natural and well-realized that it's hard to believe it isn't canon for either show.

Author's Summary: Gwen is taking her new role seriously, but things rarely work out as expected. Crack. Spoilers for first episode of Children of Earth but episodes 4 and 5 never happened.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Myfanwy
Warnings: none

Recced because: Time for some Torchwood crackfic! Because of my sad, sad love for the show, I still hold out hope that more TV episodes will be produced, and there's also Big Finish material to keep me going. Plus, of course, fanfic. In this story, we jump back to right after Children of Earth, part 1. With only Jack, Gwen, and Ianto around, the team has two openings. How do they plan to fill the spots? Gwen has an idea that results in chaos, basically. This fic is a quick, amusing read with my favorite part being the bit where Ianto describes why certain candidates just are not going to make the cut.

First of all, apologies are in order. I was planning to be able to rec MORE the last couple of weeks, but Life has not worked out as anticipated. :D That being said, I do still have a few more days as your official reccer here, so despite time and tide, I will do my best to make sure I get a few more goodies out to you all before it is all over! Recced because: I loved Torchwood. And though this is a 'short but sweet' fiction, it captures the events, emotions and thoughts of the characters very, very well - putting you in the moment of this scene. This author's fictions (mostly in drabble-form) are well worth the time to read! I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed reccing it! But in case you need a touch more convincing, here is a taste of what you will be delving into:

Story: A Ghost Story
Author: Kelkat9
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 76054
Author's Summary: Stressed-out post grad maths and computer science student Rose Tyler moves into a house with a reputation for being haunted. She scoffs at the things at first as she has her own issues with her personal life and school. Soon, she can’t ignore or logically explain what’s happening. Her inner scientist is intrigued and she starts to investigate. The more she investigates, the more things happen and she becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of the house and the disappearance of one Dr. James McCrimmon who vanished mysteriously in 1968.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones, other DW characters
Warnings: Explicit sex, swearing

I've recced Kelkat9's stuff before, and I'll probably do it again, because I love a good Ten/Rose AU, and no one writes them finer than she. This story is exactly what it says on the tin-a ghost story/haunted house story, and it's deliciously creepy. I don't recommend reading at night, unless you want to make yourself jumpy and uneasy. This is more than just a ghost story, though, it's a mystery and a love story, too, and all the various plots weave together beautifully. Trust me, you want to find out what happened to Dr. James McCrimmon. Even though I know how it ends, I've reread this story 3 or 4 times because it's just so perfect.

Story: A Few Things and a Lizard
Author: Beer Good
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2,820
Author's Summary: When Clara doesn't join him after the events of "Deep Breath" the Doctor picks up another companion. A big, sexy woman with legs up to here, a tail that won't quit, and big, nasty, pointy teeth. Yes, the Doctor is joined by a T Rex in the fix-it fic to end all fix-it fics.
Characters/Pairings: Adric, Clara, Danny, Harriet Jones, Ianto, Jack, Martha, Rory, Sarah Jane, Wilf, Twelfth Doctor, Simm!Master
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Doctor has had many companions over the years, but never, to the best of my knowledge, a T. rex, much less the one from "Deep Breath." And let's just say it's remarkable how differently certain situations might have played out had a gigantic carnivore been brought into the mix. (Davros never stood a chance.) Best of all – and unlike a number of companions – our dinosaur friend finally gets a happy ending, and a fate she earned far more than what really happened to her in her one onscreen episode.

Story: Kept Man
Author: Aralias
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 30953 words
Author's Summary: In Scream of the Shalka, REG!Doctor (the ninth Doctor who almost was) was seen travelling round the universe with a robotic Master for no apparent reason. The ninth Doctor (who actually was) has a much better reason for travelling with a robotic Master, given that his entire race are dead. This fic assumes that he was and that the Master just kept out of sight so as not to alarm anyone.
Characters: Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Mickey Smith, Professor Yana, Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (9th), The Master (Jacobi), The Master (Other), The Master (Simm)
Pairings: Shalka!Master/Nine, Shalka!Master/Ten, Doctor/Master generally implied
Warnings: Explicit sex, swearing (goodness, there’s a warning for that? Huh.)

Recced because:

A little about the author. )

Kept Man is relatively early but essential work from an essential writer in Doctor/Master and, really, the fandom. This fic tracks the first three series of the reboot, imagining that all along, an android version of the Master, built by the Doctor, lives in the TARDIS, preferring not to interact with the Doctor’s various human companions (a plot device that pulls on Scream of the Shalka’s presentation of the Doctor and an android Master voiced by Jacobi living together). It slots neatly into the show as we know it, but not in a facile, consequence-free ‘episode coda’ kind of way. ‘The Doctor keeps the Master on the TARDIS after the events on the Valiant’ is a big subgenre of Doctor/Master fic (especially the fic that came right after s3) (Kept Man is also probably a little influenced by Ariastar’s generally well-regarded Ten/Simm!Master alternate series—alternate series 4 and 5 are another sort of sub genre.). Aralias is engaging with that here, but pulling the trend/trope in directions that chime with her overall interests and sensibilities.

A little about why this fic is compelling and important. )

Characters/Pairings: The Third Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Liz Shaw, Jack Harkness, Donna Noble, the Tenth Doctor, The Master (Delgado), River Song, the TARDIS
Warnings: None stated

Recced because: The Doctor is thinking of getting a pet snake, the Brigadier fudge personal files and the Master takes a part time job at Torchwood. What is not to love? The fic consist of a couple of short scenes with various characters that are described spot on and why they want to find, or hide, the Doctor. I laughed out loud several times while reading it.

Rating: All Ages
Word count: 4,956
Characters: Tosh
Summary: Tosh finds confidence in the shape of a little rust-colored dress, and sees a side of herself that she'd like to keep. Slight AU (confident Tosh).
Warnings: none

Recced because: Tosh doesn't get enough love. The summary calls this story a slight AU, but it's that kind of AU that is so close to reality you can see it, and far enough that you feel its loss when you finish reading. Tosh is gorgeous and smart, and here she starts to realize it. The structure is excellent, composed of Tosh's interactions with not just her co-workers but also some very well-drawn OCs. Tosh's inner-doubts and struggles ring painfully true, as she explains to a girl much like herself just how she feels sitting in a bar: "You came here because it was better than going home and staring at the television and now you just wish you were home watching anything at all, because at least you wouldn't be paying seven quid a drink for the privilege."

The story is about self-confidence, self-doubt, and self-esteem. It's heart-warming and just a little bit tragic.

Recced because: This fic is like the best of Twilight Zone in the way it quietly unfolds, starting with a mystery -- why doesn't Jack want to call on the Doctor for help? -- and then turning on a simple, horrifying reveal. The story was written back in 2008, so it's AU now, but perhaps that just means this happened in an alternate timeline (something else both Doctor Who and Twilight Zone have in common).

In 2009, UNIT pulls a dying man out of the Irish Sea with a one-word message: Torchwood. Martha joins up with Jack's team in Cardiff to track down the errant branch of the organization -- before a time-traveling race of aliens can change the course of history as we know it. (Jack/Ianto + team)
Characters/Pairings: Jack/Ianto, Donna Noble, Gwen Cooper, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, UNIT
Warnings:

Recced because: I love a good twisty time travel mystery, and this fic delivers on all counts. The Jack/Ianto pairing is so background you’ll hardly notice it, so don’t come into the fic expecting romance; this is all action adventure time travel plot mystery, all the time. Well-drawn OCs, a richly realized setting, a fantastic mystery, and insanely good writing – you’ll be up late reading it, just as I was!

Recced Because:

Series 8 had a lot of great guest characters – Journey Blue, Robin Hood, Psi, Saibra, Captain Lundvik, Rigsy…

There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of fic up for any of these characters yet, perhaps because of how little time has passed since the airing of Death in Heaven. So, imagine how delighted I was to uncover this gem about Saibra.

There are no heists in this fic, but the emotional impact of Saibra and the Doctor's brief reunion has stayed with me. Saibra learns to accept herself and find joy. The Doctor misunderstands her motives and runs away from the possibility of happiness. It's such a clear, painful, and oddly funny summation of Twelve's character, and it may be my favourite fic yet published for this era.

Warnings: None
Recced because: When I realized that this has not, as far as  I can tell, been recommended, despite the author's well-deserved Calufrax ubiquity, I couldn’t help a little chortle of glee, because it falls to me to tell you how remarkable a story [livejournal.com profile] nancybrown has written in Digita1 Gir1. As does much of her fiction, this centers around Torchwood, and as much of the best Torchwood fiction does, it extracts the sublime from the ridiculous, and posits a world in which the plots of too much Torchwood, generally an unholy blend of insane and inane, are abandoned in favor of what Torchwood could actually be on rare but glorious occasions; sublime, terrifying, and heartbreaking (with a tiny flame of hope somewhere, almost guttering out, but not quite.) This is an AU which does that for one of the Torchwood episodes that most horrifyingly blends insane and inane: Cyberwoman. It finds Lisa Hallet alive, in love, battling the last ghosts of her cyber-programming, and dealing with an unexpected danger to Ianto and others she may possibly care for. [livejournal.com profile] nancybrown’s technical prowess shines through in the tiniest scenes — Lisa walking through a meadow, Lisa feeling the pull of electronic machinery and what it could mean for her, the descriptions of the antagonist’s laughter. The author’s emotionally mature vision of Lisa’s mind, and her description of Lisa’s distant, but still very human, view into the minds of others, have made this a story  I return to again and again.

I think the latter often shows up in her work.  I also love her work because it is  unsparing, whether in its clear-eyed insistence on seeing issues like race in the Whoniverse, or the difficulties of love and connection with people who have wronged us. It is also full of love. In this story, strongly and cleanly written, she observes the grief of a mother and grandfather in the unimaginable wake of Children of Earth and provides a possible outcome for Jack Harkness and Alice Carter.

Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper
Recced because: [livejournal.com profile] prochytes’ work has been recced before, because the author is damned good at emotional complexity, believable settings, three-dimensional characters so real that you can, upon occasion, dislike them for many reasons, and an unwillingness to provide happy or sad endings simply because people want one or the other. The latter works well with the author’s focus on Torchwood, I think.  I recommend this,  somewhat shorter and breezier than many others of the author’s works, because it pushes my “does crossovers well” buttons. The plot is sketched with short, efficient sentences and the characters' dialogue is much the same, enhancing the story's kinetic feel. Architecturally and in substance, much of the story is told between the words. All of it is done with elegance and and wit, as witness the amount of thematic consistency, from title to endpoint.

Recced because: Many of [livejournal.com profile] wave_of_sorrow’s stories play with timelines in a way that  I love.  I chose this one to rec because I appreciate it on both a technical and emotional level. [livejournal.com profile] wave_of_sorrow pulled off writing this in a format with many extremely short, one-sentence paragraphs. It’s a format that can often drive me batty because some writers use it to scream "Look! Everything I'm writing is Important!" That wasn’t the case here, because the author wrote with emotional heft as well as economy. The story itself threatened to choke me up at times, with what  I consider a spot on illustration of the relative youth of both the Doctor and River in this situation. And of course River and Nine, two damaged souls, connect in fascinating ways. There was more than one spot where the tears threatened to come, despite the story's brevity.

Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, Jack Harkness, The Doctor (10th), Rose Tyler
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: One of the great things about the Doctor is that he helps his companions to see what was already there, to develop the brilliance that they already possessed. They become who they are because of the Doctor, but not because he makes them that way--it was always there, he just helped to bring it out. One of the saddest moments in Journey's End (and this is saying something, since the end of the episode is full of them) is after the Doctor returns Donna (sans memories) to her house and she barely acknowledges him when he leaves. Donna's loss is so great that she doesn't even know what she's missing. What's even sadder to me, however, is that this is the note we leave Donna on (at least at this point), and this seems false to her story. Donna was always brilliant, but the Doctor offered her the opportunity for her to see that, and now it seems like that all has been lost. But surely, if Donna was always brilliant, she would be brilliant with or without the Doctor, and the story here explores that through vignettes about Donna's life after Journey's End. The bonus is that these vignettes also include other companions and even the Doctor himself.

Characters/Pairings: Other Character(s), River Song, The Doctor (11th), Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: The amount of relationship building that went into every side of this story is frankly astounding. As is the effort that went into characterisation, particularly at different points in each of the character's lives. Everyone is in character, the voices are crisp, and you can really picture the scene. I like how they've managed to seamlessly fill in some of the gaps in River's backstory to make it work, while still referencing little nods in episodes, like A Good Man Goes to War. The fish and chips nod is a pleasure, too! I also like the amount of work that's gone into both the pop culture references (eg. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and into building new planets and species to play around with. Always a plus when there's some of that to add to a brilliant plot.

Another note - sorry that my reccing has been... sporadic. I underestimated the amount of real life that would happen this week and have spent half the week driving forth across the province of Nova Scotia and sewing.

Recced because: Elisi's work is always an utter gem to read, especially when she delves into the world of AUs. I also have an ulterior motive for reccing this one, because I've been along for the ride all year since she started it. 'A Good Day' is a brilliant AU version of Journey's End, starring Eleven, River, the Master, Clara, Jack and a small host of OCs. Recced because: I really like Torchwood, you know? As I may have mentioned during previous reccing runs, there was a time when I was a little leery of identifying myself as a Torchwood fan, because...well, it was a bit dodgy, wasn't it? As the years have passed, however, I've managed to be true to myself and own up to it, even embrace it. And I'm not even talking the classy stuff like Children of Earth. I liked Miracle Day. Yeah, you read right. Especially the plane episode. And as for "classic" TW, i.e. S1-2, well, I can't hold my hands up and claim every single episode is a work of genius...or even that good, in a lot of cases, but my fondness for the thing as a whole only increases as time goes by and it recedes into history, because I think at this point I would be very, very surprised if we ever got another telly series. That's a sad thought, isn't it?

So oldschool TW fics like this one, with mentions of Ianto and Tosh and the gang (even Owen!) appeal to my sense of nostalgia for the "classic" era. And this is a very likeable fic with an excellent narrative voice describing Team Torchwood and their activities from a wry informed outsider's p.o.v. It's also got a good handle on one of the central aspects of the "classic" TW setting, one which the show itself used to poke fun at with increasing regularity as time went on, namely the absurdity of trying to keep an organisation like theirs, with the situations it dealt with and the less-than-subtle people it employed, secret in a city of 300,000-odd people. Especially when the secret organisation's name was written on the side of their SUV...

And the way this fic deals with that issue makes a lot of sense and remains true to the spirit of the series, because of course while Torchwood's half-hearted attempts at secrecy were patently absurd, and the source of some good jokes, if the organisation wasn't secret that was a big part of the setting fatally undermined. They had to keep it up somehow, and this fic suggests how. And no, it goes beyond the liberal use of memory-erasing drugs. The way this fic suggests that the team managed their business also fits Torchwood Three's ethos as an organisation; they were always too cool for school, or certainly had a good go at trying to be.

In addition, this is a very strongly-written fic. As well as the wry viewpoint and voice mentioned above, it's also witty, funny and affectionate and just a little bit saucy too. Oh, and if you can identify which New Who episode the character revealed as the narrator of this fic appeared in, and know of his meta-connection to Ianto, then you're doing well. A super-fan, probably. ;)

By the way, this isn't the last Torchwood fic I'll be reccing over these two weeks. Not by a long shot.

Story: Five Ways Ianto Jones Didn't Travel In Time
Author: HanuuEshe
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 4310
Author's Summary: Does just what it says on the tin.
Characters/Pairings: Captain John Hart, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Lisa Hallett, Myfanwy, Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Other Character(s), The Doctor (Author-Created), The TARDIS, The TARDIS
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Five Things stories are difficult to write with consistent quality, but this Torchwood story is a beauty, in which all five ficlets work really well. It's by an author who hasn't been recced here before, but has a good few stories on Teaspoon. I think we'll probably be seeing more on Calufrax.

Story: Faces and Names
Author: Beer Good
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1146
Author's Summary: You can change your name, you can change your face, but can you change who you are? During a brief stop-over, a jealous Mickey tries to find out the Doctor's name, only to find out the hard way why it's a good idea to keep your name to yourself, as an old antagonist turns out not to be who we think he is. Hitch-hiker's Guide crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Mickey Smith, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I love crossovers, and this one's a nice logical explanation of why the Doctor keeps his name a secret, with a little twist in the tail.

I'm [livejournal.com profile] ffutures, Marcus Rowland at Calufrax, and I'll be reccing for the next couple of weeks. I'm going to try for my usual mix of old and new Who, including spin-offs, crossovers and some authors who haven't been seen here before. Let's start with a nice New Who fix-it.

Story: Stories, songs, and gallant girls
Author: Kit
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 9219
Author's Summary: River Song rights a wrong, and finds herself rather charmed in the process.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Jenny Flint, Madame Vastra, River Song, The Doctor (11th), The Ood
Warnings: Explicit Sex, Alternate Universe

Recced because: I'm a sucker for fix-it stories, and one of the biggest things to fix in New Who is the problem of Donna. This story, by an author who hasn't been recced here before, romps through that via a relationship between Donna and River Song. Along the way it visits Oodspace, Victorian London, 1920s Germany, and other fun locations. I'm not sure it says anything especially profound, except that the Doctor should fix his own problems, it's just a lot of fun.

Story: Universes Apart
Author: atraphoenix
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5324
Author's Summary: They found each other through the skin of the universe.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper/Rose Tyler, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: None

Recced because: Rose and Gwen seem like the least likeliest of pairings. And yet this bittersweet fic, where Rose and Gwen communicate between Pete's World and the regular Doctor Who universe, makes this pairing work without forcing it in this fic.

Hello all! This is my first time reccing, like, ever, and I am so excited to share some really excellent stories with all of you! My two ships are Ten/Donna and Doctor/River, but I enjoy anything that's really well written. Fics I enjoy are often of a happier or more emotional persuasion, often containing many giggles and fun banter.
This first fic I'm reccing is by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] starjargon, for whom I am honored to beta and who kindly returns the favor. I think you'll all really like it.

Story: May The Best Woman Win
Author: Starjargon
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2948
Author's Summary: Martha and Rose both care deeply for the same man. So of course, the only logical thing to do is fight for him. With jousting poles. AU, obviously.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, Canton Everett Delaware III, Donna Noble, Harriet Jones, Harriet Jones, Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Lynda Moss, Martha Jones, River Song, River Song, Rory Williams, Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (11th), The Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a very fun, enjoyable fic that has pretty much every nuWho companion out there, as well as three different Doctors. Incredibly well written, with a strong, even representation of opposing characters, and some fantastic plot twists. It's one of my favorites that she's written, because she handles the complexity of dealing with so many different characters and emotions all at once in such a masterful and brilliant way.

Story: The Pandora Project
Author: Calapine
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 53,658
Author's Summary: At the end of series three, the Doctor and the Master end up travelling together and totally manage not to destroy each other or the universe. More or less. Meanwhile, Martha gets a job offer from UNIT, Jack fails to realise his team are a bit useless, and there's a giant squid for no good reason whatsoever.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Simm!Master, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones

Recced because: This story has been on my to-be-recced list practically since [livejournal.com profile] calapine first posted it to LiveJournal, but I haven't gotten around to reccing it until now because I wanted to re-read it first, and could never quite find the time to sit and read a 53,000-word fic. But I thought I'd spend a few minutes at least skimming it this weekend ... except that "skimming" suddenly turned into "do nothing else until you finish reading this amazing fic in its entirety."

Seven years after Series 3, fandom has long since turned "the Master survived the events on the Valiant and travels with the Doctor instead" into a well-worn trope, but rarely is it handled as wittily, in-character, and compellingly as it is here. There are cameos from Classic Who characters, endless snark between the Tenth Doctor and the Master, and yes, a giant squid -- a vampire squid, to be exact, because if you're going to have a giant squid in a Doctor Who story, it might as well be a vampire, too. And there is also, of course, a fine plot holding all of this together, one that seamlessly blends the classic series with the new one, but saying more would spoil it. If you didn't have weekend fic-reading plans before, I hope you do now.

Story: Clarification
Author: Prochytes
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2538
Author's Summary: It is a truth universally acknowledged that Captain Jack Harkness is hard to forget. So why does one conquest never remember his name?
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Clara Oswin Oswald, Gwen Cooper, Rhys Williams, Eleventh Doctor (Clara/Jack)
Warnings: Swearing.

Recced because: It’s sharply written, contains an unexpected (but entirely logical) pairing, and it's very funny. Clara Oswald and Jack Harkness are bound to meet, in this case, repeatedly. What’s bothering Jack is why Clara can never remember who he is each time it happens again. I can’t decide what’s the funniest part – Gwen’s suggestion that it's because the sex isn’t as great for Clara as it is for Jack, or the effect of the Doctor's arrival on Torchwood’s tendency to bad language but it's a thoroughly entertaining read from start to finish.

I began my recs with an angsty crossover. Let's end with something VERY silly...

Story: Torchwood Goes Watercolor
Author: Canaan
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1207
Author's Summary: A strange being comes through the Cardiff rift. Stranger than usual, even. Torchwood/Looney Tunes crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Other Character(s), Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's a Looney Tunes crossover and ships Jack with a toon - do you really need more justification than that?

I hope that you've enjoyed these recs - if so, please show your appreciation of the authors by reviewing the stories!

Next, another story from the Year that Wasn't, in which Gwen gets help from an unexpected source:

Story: The Sound of Running Water
Author: Firefly124
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 9950
Author's Summary: Staying behind to mind the Hub while the rest of the team went to investigate an anomaly in the Himalayas had sounded boring to Gwen, but that was before the Prime Minister announced First Contact, Jack was declared a terrorist and then killed on live television, and a mysterious stranger popped into the Hub from nowhere.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Martha Jones, Rhys Williams, River Song, The Master (Simm), Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Explicit Violence, Swearing

Recced because: A lovely story by an author who hasn't been recced here before, in which River Song takes a hand in the events of the Year That Wasn't.

I mentioned when I began last week that Captain Jack seemed to be in a lot of my recommendations this time. Here he is again, in several crossover universes:

Story: Waking Up Dead In All The Wrong Places
Author: RobotRollCall
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4664
Author's Summary: As if being immortal wasn't hard enough....Just a little collection of one-shots where Jack fails to die across different fandoms.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: As I've mentioned, I'm a big fan of crossovers; here Jack Harkness surprises characters from several fandoms with his unusual habit of not staying dead.

Everyone's always busy on Mondays, so let's start week 2 with something short:

Story: Drabbling Through History
Author: Yamx
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 687
Author's Summary: Five drabbles connecting DW/TW characters with historical events/persons.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (9th), The TARDIS, Jack Harkness, Other Character(s), Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th), The TARDIS, Amy Pond, Other Character(s), The Doctor (11th), The TARDIS, Jack Harkness
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: 100-word Drabbles are an interesting form of fiction, and are hard to write well - here Yamx has written six in which the Doctor and friends interact with various historical and legendary events. In view of the shortness of the chapters I haven't included an extract.
[identity profile] ffutures.livejournal.com
And for my fifth rec, some light flirtation from Captain Jack...

Story: Unexpected Visits
Author: Betawho
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 500
Author's Summary: What if Captain Jack met River's parents?
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, Jack Harkness, River Song, River Song, Rory Williams, The Doctor (11th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: Families are always embarassing, and families with time travellers especially so. This short romp shows why...

Story: Spare Parts 'Verse
Author: Fogsblue
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 8888
Author's Summary: Rose and some other companions meet an interesting quirk of Time Lord biology.
Characters/Pairing: 9th Doctor, 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor, the Master (Simm), Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Reinette
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: This is crackfic at its most delicious. There are plenty of fics that deal with the differences between Time Lord and human biology, and this one deals with-you guessed it-a certain talking part of the Doctor's anatomy and the hilarity that ensues when his companions encounter it. Scottish accents...they're not just for Time Lords anymore!
