Rec: Sleep and the Single Time Lord

Story: Sleep and the Single Time Lord
Author: nostalgia
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1,324
Author's Summary: The Doctor is tired but he can't get to sleep. Can Nardole help?
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor, Nardole
Warnings: None.

Recced because: After the season premiere I was searching for a fic like this, mostly because I wanted to see a fic with Nardole. It's a a spot on characterization of Nardole, and I think it's very adorable he's trying to be helpful to the Doctor and comfort him. It's a platonic piece, but I do see a hint of Nardole caring a little more for the Doctor here. Still, Nardole is the perfect company for the Twelfth Doctor after River, and the author nails their relationship. Plus, Twelve is wonderfully grumpy and spot on as well. A very enjoyable, well-written piece!

Rec: Silence Fell

 Story: Silence Fell
Author: nerdowl
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 450
Author's Summary: The universe's reaction at the end of the Time War
Characters/Pairings: The War Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I liked this little piece, and found it very lyrical and insightful, especially from the point of view from the universe itself as a character. It also touches on introspection of the War Doctor, and the piece feels deeper and vast in its language and portrayed feelings beyond it's small word count. Very enjoyable short fic, and it's good to see more pieces on this particular incarnation of the Doctor.

Rec: The Worst Plan

Story: The Worst Plan
Author: Vigs
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,315
Author's Summary: Takes place immediately after Family of Blood. Martha explains to the Doctor just how bad his plan was.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Smith, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I think what I really enjoyed about this story was that Martha confronted the Doctor about her feelings and what she went through in "Human Nature/Family of Blood." I really admire the author's portrayal of Martha, touching upon her courage and her tenacity. I could totally see Martha doing this. She'd been mistreated too much before, sometimes by the Doctor himself, and I felt some relief on her part that she was able to express herself here. Great depth and introspection too. A little character-driven gem that should get more attention.

Rec: Lies and Loyalty

Story: Lies and Loyalty
Author: Gallifrey Immigrant
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 499
Author's Summary: The wind flows through my hair as I wait. But she's not coming back this time.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald, Me, (Jane Austen)
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I really enjoyed the concept of this fic, especially in Jane Austen's point of view. Even as such a small piece, I really found there was a lot of depth to her encounter with Clara and Me, and it gives really nice fan service to Clara's interest and attraction to Jane, even when it was only a passing line in canon. The ending is very bittersweet in a way, and I like how Clara truly becomes like the Doctor in this, a renegade from the Time Lords, and the cost of Jane's excitement in knowing Clara, she has to lose her memories. A really insightful piece.

Rec: Go Home by Penny

Story: Go Home
Author: Penny
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 909
Author's Summary: Jamie wants to go home. The Doctor misunderstands. Confusion ensues.
Characters/Pairings: Jamie, Second Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This was an adorable little piece with a misunderstanding that brings about a sweet exchange between the Doctor and Jamie, as well as a bit of nice introspection on Jamie's part. The Second Doctor is perfectly in character too, and his disappointment in thinking Jamie is leaving him is enduring. Very enjoyable one-shot on these two characters.

Rec: Golden Future by perfectlyrose

Hello! Happy to be reccing again!

Story: Golden Future
Author: perfectlyrose
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1451
Author's Summary:The Doctor is rather fascinated by an anachronistic blonde with impossible timelines that he stumbles across on a asteroid bazaar.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Warnings: None

Recced because: I really liked the concept of this fic, and Rose's situation really made me curious to see more of her and what she was up to, but having her run into Eight really felt like it could happen and this would be the way the characters would react. The author really picks ups on their chemistry, as if Eight had been Nine or Ten, but she creates something a little bit new with them too. Cute piece, and great characterizations.

Ten Months from December 30th, 1999 by Gallifrey Immigrant

Story: Ten Months from December 30th, 1999
Author: Gallifrey Immigrant
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 420
Author's Summary: In hindsight, the choices always feel different.
Characters/Pairings: Grace Holloway, Eighth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: I loved this story and couldn't wait to rec it the moment I read it. It's such a fantastic introspection story on Grace's feelings and thoughts months after she had declined to travel with the Doctor. This fic really portrays some great depth in a sometimes overlooked character, especially a could-have-been companion like Grace.

the stars in my sky by countingstars

Story: the stars in my sky
Author: countingstars
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1,505
Author's Summary: And one day, the stars will call her home.
Characters/Pairings: Victoria Waterfield, Jamie McCrimmon, Twelfth Doctor, Second Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a very heartfelt piece that centers around Victoria through time, especially her feelings after she leaves the TARDIS and what happens to her. Having the Doctor come back to visit her toward the end was a lovely surprise, and provided a nice bit of closure for her. I give kudos to the author for portraying Victoria so perfectly.

rec: A Controlled Substance by nostalgia

Back again to rec this week!

Story: A Controlled Substance
Author: nostalgia
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1,033
Author's Summary: If Clara is an addict then she's not the only one.
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor/Clara Oswald
Warnings: Explicit Sex, PWP

Recced because: A very enjoyable story that plays on this notion that Clara is "addicted" to the Doctor, that she gets some sort of rush from not only their adventures, but the Doctor himself. Of course, it turns explicit, but I really like the dynamic portrayed by these two in this story, the back and forth, and how the Doctor readily indulges her. A satisfying read.

rec: Resting Upon Human Offspring

This is my last day! I hope you enjoyed the stories!

Story: Resting Upon Human Offspring
Author: PhoenixDragon
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 3,998
Author's Summary: “Greetings human scum,” the person-thing barked in a booming, nasally voice. “I have come to rest upon your offspring."
Characters/Pairings: Craig Owens, Strax, The Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This story is not only clever, but also very entertaining, and I really enjoyed the focus on side characters like Craig and Strax with the Doctor more of a presence in the background. Great job to the author for this cute idea of bringing these characters together. Through the whole fic you almost have crazy expectations for the event, and you can feel Craig's anxiety on the matter, but I found the ending very satisfying and perfect. I definitely wanted to rec this last because it's a nice, light-hearted and funny piece that I know you'll enjoy!

Rec: Revised Memories

Story: Revised Memories
Author: Gallifrey Immigrant
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 537
Author's Summary: River stops off to help a little girl who lost her teddy.
Characters/Pairings: River Song
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is such an adorable little character piece for River Song, in more ways than one. It gives good insight on her past too, something we rarely see on the show, and I think it's shaped nicely here. I just like the concept of this, and it's so very much like River to not care about the laws of time and space to help out "a little girl". A cute, enjoyable tale.

rec: Snowflakes

Story: Snowflakes
Author: vvj5
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 593
Author's Summary: Eight, Charley, and an alien snowy wonderland with no peril for once...
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Charley Pollard, slight Eight/Charley
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is such a cute, fluffy little piece between the Eighth Doctor and Charley. Eight's voice is perfect, and Charley's cynicism of such a peaceful place is well justified, knowing what kind of trouble these two are always finding. I loved the ending too, if there's nothing happening, why don't you make your own waves? Though author perfectly portrays a cute little moment between these two characters. Honestly, it would seem unnatural if these two found a peaceful moment... they are more inclined for adventure and challenges! No wonder Charley feels so out of place no matter how sweet it is... A very enjoyable little tale.

rec: Sleeping Beauty

Story: Sleeping Beauty
Author: Pir8grl
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 592
Author's Summary: Missing scene from Mummy on the Orient Express.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald, Twelfth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This was a wonderful moment that we didn't get to see from the episode, and I think the author fit this missing scene in nicely, just like a perfect puzzle piece. Not only that, but some really great Twelfth Doctor introspection is captured here, especially his feelings toward Clara, and even more the intimacy that we do not see because he isn't the sort to express such things directly. Working with the TARDIS, the Doctor wants to bring an unconscious Clara to a peaceful, comfortable spot, and I think underneath it all, he wants to somehow keep her from leaving him. A really great little piece that has a lot of depth to it.

rec: Casanova

Story: Casanova
Author: BiteyMadLady
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 1,879
Author's Summary: Clara wants to meet Giacomo Casanova. Oh my.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald, Twelfth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is really a delightful story with a great concept as Clara wants to meet another historical figure, and when the Twelfth Doctor realizes "who", he refuses for the most hilarious reason. Very amusing, and even though the writer calls this "crackfic" I think that it could totally be supported in canon, especially knowing how the tenth incarnation could be, and it just seems like a clever twist on the whole idea. Great Twelfth Doctor characterization too.

Characters/Pairings: Jamie McCrimmon, The Doctor (2nd), Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Herriot, Jamie/Victoria
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a lovely, fluffy little piece that looks into Jamie's feelings for Victoria as well as touch upon their adorable interactions. A very romantic little story that weaves in missing scenes up until Victoria leaves and Jamie has to deal with missing and yearning for her. I feel like this is exactly the kind of closure these characters deserve, no matter how bittersweet. A definite overlooked story that should have more reviews.

Author's Summary: The eighth Doctor has a conversation with a stranger in a park.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Other Character

Author's Summary: I can almost see the dollar signs swimming in his eyes.
Characters/Pairings: The Master (Roberts), Chang Lee

R.A.P.T.U.R.E by PhoenixDragon

Story: R.A.P.T.U.R.E
Author: PhoenixDragon
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,865

Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, OCs
Warnings: Horror descriptions

Recced because: Gosh, this story really hits you in the gut. An eerie, haunting concept that just leaves you breathless through the whole fic. Very intriguing story which makes you want more, but it’s also perfect as it is with the way it ended. This author is madly talented, you can tell, and this is one of her best.

Excalibur by Dancingalome

Story: Excalibur
Author: Dancingsalome
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 386
Author's Summary: “Doctor, why do you have a sword in the broom cupboard?”
Characters/Pairings: Clara, Twelfth Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Perfect characterizations of both the Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald. I also really enjoy this concept that the Doctor could have been Merlin, so having this particular sword makes a lot of sense. Wonderfully written and the dialog is spot on between Clara and the Doctor.
