Ciccigreen: Notice the Bumblebee

Story: Notice the Bumblebee
Author: ciccigreen
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2991
Author’s Summary: After a while, the Doctor notices certain oddities in Donna's behavior. Like how she always does the dishes and never truly talks about herself.
Characters/Pairings: 10th Doctor and Donna Noble
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is one of my favorite ships, and one of my favorite character introspection/insight stories. Ciccigreen has recced here before, but no one has recced her stuff and I think she writes brilliant Donna Noble stories, in spite of her own protests that she thinks Donna is a difficult character to write. This story gives a wonderful and insightful look into Donna’s character and why she is the way she is with the Doctor (and people in general). It’s funny, a bit romantic, and all around heart warming.

Author's Summary: The Doctor and Donna are both grieving, and they turn to each other for comfort..
Genre: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Missing Scene, PWP
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna

Recced because: Donna Noble.

I tried to rec as many Doctor/Donna fics as I could last time, since I feel it's the most underrated pairing and it deserves so much more love than it gets. Donna, if written right, has such potential in fics, both as a companion and as a romantic interest.

This is not a romance, per se, but a story of two people needing comfort and having only each other to turn to. Even though they've only just met, and know nothing of each other. Because sometimes, all we need is someone who understands. It touches on the incredible blow it must be to be betrayed by your fiancé at the altar, of Donna's sometimes fragile self-esteem, the Doctor's remoteness and his love for Rose and the loss of her. It also has a frank and insightful discussion about his feelings for Rose and best of all, it feels like it could have been canon, if Doctor Who was a show more aimed at adults.

"You don't have to worry about sullying me, Doctor." )

Rec: The Square Root of Pi

I spent yesterday hunting for a good Four/Leela fic (Leela being my favourite classic companion), but the few good ones I found had already been recced. Ditto with every Doctor/Sarah Jane story I had in mind. So with a heavy sigh I turn my attention back to New Who. Fortunately there are gazillions of great New Who fics out there!

Title: The Square Root of Pi
Word count: 3483
Author: Topaz Eyes
Author summary:  The nightmare did not end when they closed the door on Midnight.
Characters: Ten/Donna
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because:
Nothing beats a good hurt/comfort fic. There are, of course, a good many "Donna comforts the Doctor after Midnight" stories. This is a particularly good one, however, because both Ten and Donna are very much in character. The Doctor is wounded and defensive, and Donna is both consoling and sharp-tongued. It's easy enough for me to believe this might have happened after the episode!

I keep forgetting to say this, but I know you guys already know it-- if you like the story, go lavish love on the author!

rec: Something More by Petunia Bowl

Story: Something More
Author: Petunia Bowl
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 19,539
Author's Summary: The Tenth Doctor and Donna come to terms with what happened to him on Midnight.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna
Warnings: Sex

Recced because: Am I boring because I'm reccing the same author twice in a week? Probably. Do I care? Nope! Because Petunia Bowl is awesome enough to be recced everyday, I just wish she wrote enough stories for me to do that.
And this is one of my favorite romances ever, any fandom. It's short and sweet, but packs so much into every sentence, from the things the Doctor doesn't tell Donna, to Donna's slightly unwilling realization that maybe she does love the Doctor, after all, to one of the sweetest, hottest and most in-character sex scenes I've read in this fandom. Writing good sex scenes is an art, and far from every writer can do it. To do it well involving two characters who aren't together in canon, and do it in a believable way, that takes true skill, which Petunia Bowl has.

I've enjoyed this week, thanks for having me! Hopefully you've discovered some new, enjoyable stuff.

She’s not in love with him though, because that would be spectacularly stupid. )

rec: To Err is Human by Lilac Summers

What do you mean it's Saturday? It's still Friday I tell you! In.. plenty of places... Like... Like...

Anyway. Moving on!

Story: To Err is Human
Author: Lilac Summers
Rating: Adult/NC-17
Word Count: 53,374
Author's Summary: Donna is the (un)lucky companion stuck with the Doctor in 1913 this time around; she's not quite sure how to deal with this sudden change in situation. Mostly she just blames the TARDIS. Uses season 3 episodes "Human Nature" and "Family of Blood."
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna
Warnings: Insanely funny situations, some sex and great angst

Recced because:
Who doesn't love a good HN-rewrite? And this is my absolute favorite ever, all categories. Not because it's Donna (even though that is lovely) but because it's brilliant on so many levels. It's so funny in places that you might wanna refrain from eating while reading (like when Donna steals ready-made food from the TARDIS because she can't cook.), seriously hot (John Smith, Donna, wall...) and at the same time, heart-wrenching (try reading the where John Smith begs for his life without tearing up!) and beautiful.

Lilac Summers is a fantastic writer, and even if you don't like D/D, you WILL like this because good writing is good writing, no matter the pairing, which Lilac Summers proves. She makes John Smith into his own man, not just the Doctor with lost memories and Donna is tossed between confusion, jealously, attraction, irritation and doubts, just as it should be.

Word Count: 1712
Author's Summary: The Doctor helps himself and Donna gets something out of it. As it were. (Doctor/Donna.)
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Donna
Warnings: explicit sex, swearing

Recced because: After a week of reccing some fairly heavy, introspective/emotional stuff, I thought I'd close with something light and fun.

While I sometimes find PWPs enjoyable even if I don't really buy into the pairing, after a while -- no matter how well-written -- they can tend to all sort of blur together for me. Which is why I love this little thing. It may or may not have been meant as crack, but to me it's a hilarious and brilliantly blunt satire. I'll never look at that sort of story the same way again.

rec: not complicated by caz963

It's funny. I really didn't like Donna at first and wasn't looking forward to S4. But Catherine and David were so awesome together that now she is by far my favorite character :D

Story: Not Complicated
Author: Caz963
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 7691
Author's Summary: Where does it say in the rule book that best friends can't sleep together?
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Donna
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: Their friendship is captured so perfectly. If you have trouble seeing Donna and Ten having sex this fic will convert you! They tease, they bicker, they have smokin' hot sex ;) Everything I loved about their chemistry on the show is here and it makes me wish Donna had been around for another season! Maybe this could've happened on screen then ;) (I'm just gonna pretend Much Ado About Nothing is how the two of them would've got together)

Word Count: 1049

Author's Summary: Donna and the Doctor find a reminder of Pompeii.

Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble

Warnings: None

Recced because:

I love “The Fires of Pompeii” and I love Donna and Ten together.  It also echoes the scenes from Series 5 that make it plain that the Doctor loves to visit museums.  I know Time_Converges has been recced before, but since it was by me it almost counts as reccing a new author.  Don’t hurt yourself searching for logic in that last sentence; there is none.  :-)

Author's Summary: A gay man who lies about his name and his job asks her out in Trafalgar Square and she says yes. It sounds like the start of a joke and here she is waiting for the punch line.
Characters/Pairings: Donna/Ten, Donna/Lee
Warnings: None

Recced because: I couldn't very well do a whole week of reccing and not include at least one story with Donna. This is one of my favourite Donna fix-its, and considering how many of them I've read, that is saying something.

The story tackles many of the same things that other fics taking place after Journey's End also does, but it still manages to be both original and highly memorable. It swings masterly between hilarity and heart-break, making you laugh in the middle of things that are actually quite sad, and the other way around. There is a complexity to the characters and their relationships that is very compelling. Nothing is ever easy or clear-cut. It's penned with a lot of skill and humour, and the author has got such a perfect handle on Donna and her friendship with the Doctor that I never wanted the story to end!

Rec: The Hypothetical Love Affair

Story: The Hypothetical Love Affair
Author: zoicite
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 5189
Author's Summary: The entire thing began as an attempt to get back at Donna’s mother.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna Noble

Recced because: Yes, I admit... I (and a few others) coaxed [livejournal.com profile] zoicite into joining the Teaspoon purely so I can rec this fic here.

This is my favorite Ten/Donna fic period. What I like the most about [livejournal.com profile] zoicite's stories is that - even when things get complicated and sex gets involved - the friendship between Ten and Donna is still treated as the most important factor, the most indomitable aspect of the relationship. It's fantastic, because there are so many Ten/Donna het writers these days that tend to lose sight of that.

Even if you don't ship them romantically, give this a go. You'd probably be pleasantly surprised.

rec: inertia

Apologies for starting off late. I just returned from Chicago TARDIS and needed a few days to decompress myself. But now that I have recovered... to the reccing mobile!

Plan to mix up the Classic/New a bit more this time round. But for a starting appetizer, have some Ten and Donna. :)

Author's Summary: He won't fall in love with her, he's smarter than that. But it just comes down to the inertia of the thing.
Characters/Pairings: one-sided Ten/Donna

Recced because: Sparrow needs more love. And I have a wee soft spot for the theory that Ten was crushing on Donna like a mad thing all through Season 4. Anyway, what it says on the tin: a lovely Ten introspective about Donna. Short, sweet and gorgeous.

Word Count: 2,056
Author's Summary: Surrounded by Daleks, seconds from death, the Doctor throws caution to the wind and decides to let Donna know how he feels.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Donna
Warnings: None

Recced because: Plot is completely irrelevant in this story; it's all about one snappy, clever, and cracktastic conversation in which the Doctor admits his love for Donna, Donna expresses total shock, and everyone gets a happy ending. (I should note that there's a point near the end of the story where the Doctor nearly does a spit-take. I suggest you avoid drinking liquids while reading this story, unless you want the same thing to happen to you.)

rec: routine

Well, it's been fun reccing for you all; to finish off, here's some kinky porn from the most recent series, to balance out Friday's 1964-tinged take on the same thing.

Story: Routine
Author: cannibalcake
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2000
Author's Summary: Ten/Donna. PWP with bondage and fluff.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Donna
Warnings: BDSM, Explicit Sex, Swearing

Recced because: not only is it a deliciously hot piece of bondage porn for one of the hottest couples on the show, but it also does an excellent job of portraying it as part of a loving, trusting relationship and putting it in an overall context of negotiation and consent, which frankly we need more of in our bondage porn. And it's all fantastically in character.

Recced because:  The combination of Ten, Donna, and mating will never not be funny, but this story is particularly fabulous.   The comic timing is impeccable, the voices are spot-on, and the ending is wonderfully strange.  I laughed so hard I nearly injured myself at several lines.  Say what you will about Journey's End, but it's led to some brilliant crack.  Read this story, but keep beverages away or your keyboard will be sorry.

Author's Summary: Everywhere they go, people think they're married.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: It made me laugh - a lot - and it's very Ten and Donna-ish.

"Ah ha!" the Doctor shouted.

The six-foot-high insect being turned to the Doctor. "You have an idea, Mr Noble? A way out of this crisis?"

"Ah, er, it's Doctor, actually. Just 'Doctor', that is, not 'Doctor Noble'. You know, there's a street in Malaga called Doctor Noble; I met him once, the chap it was named after--"

Donna interrupted him forcefully. "The main point is, we're not married. To each other or anyone else."

"You nearly got married, though," the Doctor pointed out. "The first time we met was at her wedding," he told the insect helpfully.

"When you abducted me from my wedding, you mean."

"Abduct nothing! It was an interphasic attractive force between huon particles. Besides, you were lucky I did, your fiancé was going to sacrifice you to a spider."

Story: We'll Always Have... You Know
Author: nostalgia @ Teaspoon / [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj @ LJ
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1,824
Author's Summary: Inexplicably in love with Donna, the Doctor decides to relive that honeymoon he had with Romana. It goes as well as you'd expect.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna Noble, Martha Jones
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Nostalgia's crack!fic is the cure-all for everything that's wrong with the universe. I'm convinced of it. At the very least, if [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj's fanfic doesn't solve all that's wrong with the universe, it's the cure-all for everything that's wrong with New Who.

In this fic, the Tenth Doctor realizes that he's in love with Donna while in the shower (yes, like that); calls Martha for advice on seducing human women; concludes that Martha may not have been serious when she suggested "lead her on with mixed signals while making her work as your servant for months at a time"; receives feedback on his Angel/Spike slash fic; tries to recreate that date he had in Paris with Romana by substituting Donna; and comes to recognize that friendship can often be more important (and saner) than passionate love.

Author's summary: Donna has standards.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna
Warnings: none

Recced because: This story is an amusing twist on the idea of a Ten/Donna relationship. In this case, Donna claims her main worry is that the aliens holding them prisoner will want her and the Doctor to have sex. It's refreshing to see the Doctor with a deflated ego from the thought that one of his companions might actually not be attracted to him. Best of all, Donna is the real star here, as she controls the situation from beginning to end.

REC: Men Are From Mars

Story: Men Are From Mars
Author: quillofrassilon
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 7862
Author's summary: When Ten and Donna are forced to marry, Donna convinces the Doctor to take her on a honeymoon, complete with sun, sand, and...dinosaurs.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Donna, dinosaurs
Warnings: explicit sex

Recced because: This fic exemplifies everything I love about about the Tenth Doctor/Donna ship: they fight and argue and bicker (and all other sorts of synonyms for quarrel) but at the end of the day, they really do care about each other deeply. Men Are From Mars starts out the way that Doctor and Donna fics usually do: with fate throwing them in an unexpected situation, giving them plenty of room to snark at each other. Then, about midway through the fic, things take a turn for the serious and suddenly it isn't just about the funny bickering. Suddenly there's some real emotional meat to the fic. It's a bit like a good S4 episode, actually—like Fires of Pompeii or Planet of the Ood—but with the chemistry between the Doctor and Donna made actual text (which of course is what fanfic is for.)

And it's got a rather nice sex scene too.
