This is the first fic this week that I'm not reccing for the sex (though there's absolutely nothing wrong with it ;)). This is an AU where the Doctor ends up stuck in London, and to have something to do he takes a job as a teacher and guess who ends up in his class?

Some of you may recall the uproar a few weeks where Doctor Who was accused of being a racist show. While one may have different opinions on that, I don't think anyone can argue the fact that Doctor Who only rarely examines the problems of gender, race, sexuality, class and general privilege.

Which is why I find fics that delve into the probable realities of Rose's poor, working-class background especially interesting. We know that Jimmy Stone was a rotten egg, but he's especially nasty in this fic (prepare your hankies). However, Rose's good humor and lust for life really shines through in this fic, and is even more poignant considering how rough her life has been.

Recced because: This fic has everything. No, really. An adventurous, suspenseful plot, complete chaos, utter hilarity, a delightfully drugged Doctor, and a bunch of very clever historic references.

With fics this long, I often wonder if they're worth my time. If that's where you are right now, believe me: this one is. Parts of it feel like exactly the kind of crazy that regularly happens on the show, and other parts take it to a different level. But there're also deep and thoughtful parts and clever commentary.

I imagine this is what would have happened if Douglas Adams had ever written New Who fanfic.

Recced because: Bluedawn's muti-era Doctor/Rose love stories are simply brilliant. The idea that the Doctor might have loved Rose throughout all of his lives is particularly appealing to me, and she captures just how bittersweet it might be to have them cross paths long before he's supposed to know her. Plus, every one of Doctor voices are unique and spot on, and Rose's interactions with each of them is priceless. Also, t's a very unusual post-Doomsday Ten/Rose reunion story.

“I ask again...who are you? What is your name? Why do you keep showing up in my life, my lives?” he asks, knowing that he probably will not receive an answer for his troubles. At least she spoke to him this time.

She merely shakes her head at him as she did in his second life and the sad smile returns.

“Can’t you stop it? Can’t you get out?” he asks, desperately hoping for both him and her that she can.

Although, it’s nice to have a defender, a sort of guardian angel, on Earth. Not that he needs her help. Of course not. But then again...

“Who says I want out?” she asks, steel replacing the sadness in her voice. “I made my choice, Doctor.” There is something in her voice when she says his name. Something that makes him nervous and excited at the same time. The air grows heavy and he has received no answers from the mysterious human. She will be gone in a second.

“What choice? When? Who are you?” He shouts a litany of questions at her, hoping she’ll answer even one.

Recced because: This is the story that made me fall in love with the New London High series. It's one of the most innovative, captivating AUs I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The author seamlessly inserts the characters of Doctor Who into the setting of a teen drama, without losing any of the fantastic characterizations that makes them unique in the first place. It cleverly blends elements of canon, yet re-imagines the show as something entirely new, and entirely wonderful.

There's a blossoming 9/Rose love story, a super-shy and awkward Rory, a flirty teenaged Jack, and even a nod to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And, because every high school drama needs its villains, there's Harry Saxon and his evil minions, the Dalecki brothers.

Before you go off to read it, here's a quick lowdown on the Doctors at New London High. All of the Doctors are related to one another, and all of their names are variants on 'John Smith.'

Evan is Eight, John is Nine, Sean is Ten, and Ian is Eleven. These four, along with the majority of their companions, are high school students. The other Doctors are parents and uncles, and Sarah Jane is Evan and John's mother.

Hello, hello all! Tis PhoenixDragon - back again with a handful of recs! I'll try to do multi-era (I'll do my best) but I'm quite sure there will be something for everyone. I'm really excited to be sharing again this week - so let's get started, shall we?

Recced because: Ahhh, this is what I consider one of the best kinds of Doctor Who fic. A fairytale (if you will) within a fairytale. It feels like a whole 'nother world, even as it is very much a Doctor Who fiction. This author has such phenomenal characterization, she can place these characters in any situation and keep it all in balance (and she has done so several times) and yet, you never feel as if you are out of place. Her grasp of the intricacies of the characters, the wonderfully vivid settings and the pacing of her plots makes all of her fiction worth a read. But this is one that sits very close to my heart and sits at the top of my favorites. I certainly hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Oh! And don't let the wordcount daunt you. Before you know it, the fiction is over and you are left blinking, wishing it could have gone on forever...

I'm here, I'm here! ::stops to pant from running:: I didn't forget or leave the planet or anything else that would have me besmirch the honor of being Reccer of the Week. This time I come bearing one of my favorite flavors of Ten fic: basically, the Ten Is Hilarious When He's Loopy fic. If it wasn't already here I totally would have made this a 2-fic theme post and added Ko-herence by Fayth along with, because they make a very fine box set.

rallalon? I mean, just the fact that she's her should be enough to send anyone burning rubber toward whatever she's written. But if you want specifics, this story is Ral's version of, and I quote, "poke[ing] at a cliche until I sporfle." The result gives us over 20K words (at just the right pace, mind you) of hilarious, sexy, lovingly-rendered detail inside the mind of a venom-drunk Ten and a seriously baffled Rose as said cliche unfolds, while reminding us why the cliche was such a fun idea in the first place. Just, really...Loopy!Ten done perfectly. Spot on. Aces. ::golf clap:: THAT. Etc.

rec: Not So Forbidden Fruit

Greetings, all! Not sure who here is familiar with me but I am an admittedly tunnel-visioned purveyor of Nine/Rose smut. I'm also a whiner: I'm already having trouble 1) finding something awesome that hasn't already been recced, because you all are so clever you know all the good stuff already; 2) finding something awesome that hasn't already been recced that is also on Teaspoon, because most of the great little undiscovered (I think) stuff I know of is on LJ, and their authors may or may not have put them on Tsp and if they did they might have a different pen name or left out a comma in the title and now I can't find it and I don't see why people don't consider my needs before they do things. I mean, stepping out of my ~~obsession~~ usual 'ship is enough of a challenge, but really, one I think will be good for me. Maybe after that I'll even go outside. Maybe even during the day. Whoa, I need to slow down.

Oh look, I found one! It's still Nine/Rose smut, but it's not on the rec list and it's a total go-to for me. I swear other pairings will come later, but for now, you need to know about this.

Hmm, why do I like this so much? It's a take on the alien aphrodisiac thing, but it just feels fresh and much more about character than the deus ex machina that brings the two together. The interplay between the two of them as the walls break is pure them, absolutely their kind of competition and the build up is slow, sensuous and full of non-verbal communication, something the two of them could live off of. That and under-the-influence Doctor is shown to be the silly, occasional brat he would be if he weren't always trying to be dignified. ;)

Hey everybody! My name's Taryn aka pink_flame_87 and I'll be posting some recs this week. I'm going to come clean about something right now-although I've come to love a wide variety of Doctor Who themed fics, my first love was Doctor/Rose fics. I'm going to recommend lots of fics this week that have nothing to do with that pairing, but I thought why not start out with a fic that I think dispels a lot of the worst preconceptions about Doctor/Rose shipping fics. It is technically Doctor/Rose but works completely as a novel in it's own right.

In one of them she meets the Doctor, but he's not met her yet. There are a very lot of rules about interacting with your own timeline, and Rose Tyler is about to break them all...

I've been trying to avoid reccing ongoing WIPs because I know many like to read completed stories. However the authors of this story updated this one today, so I just had to include it in the rec list.

Recced because: The authors take a broken and dmanaged post - Time War Nine, and spins a brilliant AU based on making a drastic path with his life. The bonds between himself and Classic Who characters, the Brigadier, Benton, and Harry Sullivan are lovingly evident and his meeting with Rose and the development of their relationship is painfully poignant. Both Classic and New Who fans will find unique gems to enjoy about this story and it's overall tale of pain, loss, and trying to put oneself back together again.

Each scenario is hilarious, from awkwardness, a lack of genitalia, quality control issues, euphemisms attacking, and my personal favourite, the interplay of regenerative powers and orgasm (And also, that was just the best EVER). An oldie but a goodie, this one is sure to make you laugh until you cry.

Nine and Rose have a superlatively Murphy's Law day on an alien planet, complete with angry mobs, a lost TARDIS, killer storms, and living rocks. It is quite spot-on for the sort of life they lead, and has a wonderful balance of humor, adventure, and wonderment. Short, sweet, and thoroughly re-readable, Time's Secret is one of those stories that always leaves me smiling.

Recced because: I have a weakness for Nine just-after-the-Time-War fics, especially when he runs into someone who helps him. In this case, he lands right on the Brig's doorstep, quite literally. Scenes of this raw-and-wounded Doctor as the Brig and wife help him out via a place to rest, food and some hard-earned advice are intercut with beautiful, tasteful scenes of the Doctor and Rose making love. If you're not interested in the sex, you can skip over it in favor of some truly lovely interaction between the Doctor and the Brig. If you don't know the Brig, you can still enjoy the story. This is one of my long-time favorites that I come back to over and over. Enjoy!
