Story: Spare Parts 'Verse
Author: Fogsblue
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 8888
Author's Summary: Rose and some other companions meet an interesting quirk of Time Lord biology.
Characters/Pairing: 9th Doctor, 10th Doctor, 11th Doctor, the Master (Simm), Rose Tyler, Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Reinette
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: This is crackfic at its most delicious. There are plenty of fics that deal with the differences between Time Lord and human biology, and this one deals with-you guessed it-a certain talking part of the Doctor's anatomy and the hilarity that ensues when his companions encounter it. Scottish accents...they're not just for Time Lords anymore!

Is that all we have time for? Well then, thank you for watching my calufrax recs and here's hoping I'll be back again soon with 7 more fics! Roll on [livejournal.com profile] shelwass's reign! To finish one I'm going to end with something a little fun... There's no place like home.

Story: Over the Rainbow
Author: rickmaniac101
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2,097
Author's Summary: The Doctor's been wandering about the strangest place of all, Oz. A little slice of his time with the mystical Wizard.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Madame de Pompadour, Mickey Smith
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: Oh, this is a beautiful, clever piece. I love it when an author can so successfully place the canon of one story into the canon of the other and make it seem like they were made for each other. The chemistry between the characters makes it obvious who everyone is and why, and it works so well. It is also, absolutely, a barrel of laughs. I was giggling from start to finish. Hands on my side stitches, lemme tell you. Not to mention it's just plain well-written, structure and grammar wise. And then somewhere... it grows dizzy. Disorientating. The ending was the biggest surprise ever, given the start. A brilliant way to end the recs and a reminder that not all is as it seems...

Story: Five Ways the Doctor Didn't Get Out of 18th-century France (but Could've)
Author: HonorH
Rating: General
Word Count: 6144
Author's Summary: What if Reinette hadn't found a way for the Doctor to return to Rose? Would he (not to mention Rose and Mickey) have been stuck? Nah!
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Madame de Pompadour, Mickey Smith, Original Companion, Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (Author-Created)
Warnings: None
Recced because: Five Things stories are always interesting exercises, and this one is a tour de force, mixing everything from comedy to angst, crossovers and straight Who fic.

Story: To Her Coy Mistress
Author: kaydee falls
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 6862
Author's Summary: In which there are interrupted heists, chance encounters, snogging, and headaches over verb tenses. A non-linear love story. (Christina/Jenny)
Characters/Pairings: Jenny, Lady Christina de Souza, Jack Harkness, Reinette; Jenny/Christina
Warnings: None given

Recced because: This is actually the first fic I found on Teaspoon that I loved. The pairing isn't one I'd have thought of, but it really works, and the prose is lovely. The angst here kind of hits you in waves, as more and more of the tangled timeline is revealed. Read it twice for extra tragedy. (And if angst isn't your thing the way it's mine, don't let that deter you: this is also a free-wheeling adventure story.)

Story: Well Met in Sunlight
Author: xwingace
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3,082
Author's Summary:
Shakespeare didn't get to see the TARDIS the first time he met the Doctor.  But he's smart enough to know what it is when he comes across it later.

Characters/Pairings: Shakespeare, Madame de Pompadour, Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings:
None

Recced because: If you’re like me and you like “The Shakespeare Code,” “The Girl in the Fireplace”, and the Fourth Doctor, have I got a story for you!  Shakespeare walks into a strange blue box (this isn’t a joke) expecting to see Ten and Martha again, but there is a different pair traveling in the TARDIS.  (See, there was no punch line.)  He is accidentally transported through space and time, where he meets someone else who knows his Doctor.  It is a charming story, with just a hint of disappointment that the Doctor isn’t the right one.

This is my final rec for the week. Thank you so much for having me and I hope that you enjoyed at least some of the stories I posted about. :)

Story: Opportunity
Author: nonelvis/[livejournal.com profile] nonelvis
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1854
Author's Summary: Reinette is accustomed to seizing opportunity, and the Doctor is opportunity waiting to be grasped.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Reinette
Warnings: Sexual situations, Light BDSM/Kink (D/s)

Recced because: This is one of the first smut!fics I ever read in fandom and I still think it is one of the hottest things that I've ever read. In this fic, [livejournal.com profile] nonelvis gives us a highly erotic interlude between a dominant!Reinette and somewhat submissive!Tenth Doctor. And while this fic may be categorized as a 'PWP', there is actually a plot there, lingering in the background, skillfully and subtly intertwined with the more sexual elements of the story. In fact, I actually think this fic is an excellent character study of both the Doctor and Reinette and an enticing look at the dynamics of their relationship with one another. There is a powerful, yet somewhat tragic story packed within this little gem, but also some gorgeous, sexy smut that never seems to lose its titillating spark after multiple rereads.

Story: After All Right
Author: WishingWillow
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1,079
Author's Summary: Just what happened to Reinette in those first hours that it became clear the Doctor would not return?
Characters/Pairings: Madame de Pompadour/The Tenth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced Because: This author is one of the best on Teaspoon. Reinette fic is not often praised in favor of Ten/Rose fic, but this is one of THOSE fics, the ones that stick with you for hours and hours after you've read them. The language is so fluid, the narration so perfectly in-character. I swear I felt chills after reading this. It's still one of my favorites.

Story: Why Stop at Thirteen (When You're Having So Much Fun?)
Author: Gillian Taylor ([livejournal.com profile] dark_aegis) and WMR ([livejournal.com profile] wendymr)
Rating: None given; all ages
Word Count: 1285
Author's Summary: Because sometimes he needs someone to stop him. Crack!fic ahoy.
Characters/Pairings: Adric, Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Ace McShane, Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Jackie Tyler, Madame de Pompadour, Martha Jones, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Peri Brown, Pete Tyler, Romana II, Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None given, very mild violence?

Recced because: Needs someone to stop him? Needs someone to smack him, perhaps! The companions step up to the task. For crack!fic vignettes, it has a lovely progression to a laugh-out-loud punchline.

Story: Not a Lady
Author: Wishingwillow
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 836
Author's Summary: More from the slow path, with remembrances of a box that was bigger on the inside. One Reinette never quite saw for herself.
Characters/Pairings: Reinette/Louis
Warnings: None

Recced because: I was indifferent to Reinette until I started reading Wishingwillow's work. She has a way of melding historical facts with Doctor Who canon and creating something wonderful. I debated about which story to choose, but I thought this was very representative of her work - showing a side of Reinette that we didn't get to see on screen.

Story: The Slow Path, or Two and a Half Centuries in Two and a Half Days
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 16598
Author's summary: AU from Girl in the Fireplace.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Reinette, Rose, Mickey, Various Historical Figures
Warnings: only if you want me to warn for awesomeness

Recced because: This fic is excellent. It's complex and well-researched and wonderfully detailed. There's a sense of history to it and a sense of geography too. It's well-plotted and well-structured and just very, very good. It's one of my favorites. And as always, Amy Wolf's characterization is faultless.

Plus, there's a scene where William S Burroughs gives the Doctor drugged tea in a room full of Beat Poets and a great cameo by Led Zeppelin. What's not to love?

Story: A Very Civil Partnership
Author: nostalgia
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1130
Author's Summary: The Doctor does indeed get to settle down with the Master. And it all goes downhill from there.
Characters/Pairings: Ten/Simm!Master, Reinette (implied Ten/Reinette, implied Master/other)
Warnings: none

Recced because: Like Jack/Ianto fic, humorous Ten/Master recs have been lacking on this comm to date. Here's one of my favorites. The Master is still evil, but the Doctor very optimistically thinks he can keep him under control. By the way, these two are married. Think that'll help the Doctor in his efforts? Probably not. After all, he is dealing with the Master here. This is a hilarious story with some surprises thrown in.

(Note: Although it's marked as not being complete, this part stands fine on its own and the author says in her LJ that she is unlikely to ever write more.)

Story: Love Of His Life
Author: Carmen Sandiego
Rating: Unrated
Author's summary: The Doctor loves - foolishly, unconditionally, brilliantly - through all his lives.
Characters/Pairings: Second Doctor/Jamie, Third Doctor/Jo, Theta/Koschei(/Ushas), Fourth Doctor/Romana, Eighth Doctor/Romana, First Doctor/Barbara (unrequited), Barbara/Ian, First Doctor/Cameca, Tenth Doctor/Reinette, Susan, the Brigadier, Martha and numerous other companions mentioned. Also, from the deity corner, Pain, Death, and Time.
Warnings: Should I warn for Gallifreyan mythology?

Recced because: If someone is a thousand years old or more (or even if they're the nine-hundred years they claim to be), it's very silly to presume that they've only loved once in their life. This fic expresses that concept beautifully. It's wonderfully written, with lyrical prose and a firm grasp of canon. The incorporation of Pain, Death, and Time--the three Gallifreyan goddesses--lends a perfect note of unease. I almost didn't rec this, because hasn't everyone read something by Carmen Sandiego? But this fic just gets it so very right that I couldn't help myself. If you haven't read this already, please do. (It's not really as long as the pairing list makes it sound like. It's actually just under three thousand words.)

I'd also like to say that it's been a distinct pleasure to rec to everyone this past week. Due to the generosity of our mods, who let me sign up for another week, I'll be back at the end of April. Quite frankly, I can't wait!
