This week, I'm planning on trying to rec fics by authors who have not been featured on
calufrax before.
Story: One Perfect Day
Author: AvalonNocturne
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6619
Charcters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Eighth Doctor
Author's Summary: When an accident sends Rose back in time to meet the Eighth Doctor, she considers telling him about the Time War. Will she risk it?
Recced because: I love anything and everything to do with Gallifrey. I devour stories that deal with the sights and sounds of this planet because, well, we didn't get to see enough of it either on screen or really even in the novels. If you add the spice of a companion meeting a past Doctor, especially when the companion and the Doctor are Rose and Eight, well, I'm there. This story is almost a love poem written to Gallifrey and the ending is one that will stay with you for a long time.
He tried to talk her out of it. There’s loads more interesting places, he told her. You really don’t want to go to Gallifrey.
I really do, she had replied.
In the end, she won. It seemed this Doctor was just as prone to giving in to her wishes as her own Doctor was. He surrendered with ill grace, but surrender he did. And so, a short time later, Rose stepped out of the TARDIS onto a planet which, some time in the future, would vanish, a planet that would become a legend throughout the galaxy, spoken of only in hushed and reverent tones.
Gallifrey.
