Story: The Prize
Author: Mouth on Legs
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 53,770
Author's Summary: After he is poisoned, the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa must find the being the who did it and are then forced into the labrinyth of a madman who must have a Time Lord to undo his greatest mistake. Should they succeed they will receive the antidote, fail and the Doctor will die, unable to regenerate.
Characters/Pairings: Fifth Doctor/Tegan, Nyssa
Warnings: None

Recced because: I couldn't end the week without reccing something for one of my long-time favorite pairings. This story is a guilty pleasure of mine. Nyssa and Tegan have to take care of an incapacitated Doctor in this one, giving both the opportunity to use their respective skills. I love the meaty plot and the slow build-up to romance.

Story: A Question of Jurisdiction
Author: AND
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5,251
Author's Summary: "Why was it up to me to end the invasion of the Bane, Captain Torchwood?"
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, Jack Harkness, Luke Smith, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: None

Recced because: I admit I love the snarky fun that is this story. Sarah Jane and company have already saved the world from the Bane, but Jack wants to ride in like the big hero anyway. The dialogue is snappy, the tone cheeky, and Sarah demonstrates her competence. Again.

Story: Past Imperfect
Author: ponygirl
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 14,191
Author's Summary: Sometimes you need a little help, and it's good to see a familiar face from the past.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Evelyn Smythe, Tenth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is kind of like the cozy cardigan (one of Evelyn's perhaps?) of fics. I'm a sucker for multi-doctor stories to begin with, and if you include Evelyn Smythe, one of my favorite companions, all the better. Ponygirl's story is full of breezy action and humor, tempered with moments both sweet and bittersweet. I enjoy all of the character interactions and always finish this story with a smile on my face.

Story: This is How it Ends
Author: Wiccagirl24
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1,219
Author's Summary: A dozen years traveling the galaxies together, saving planets and people, sharing small moments and cups of tea. It had to end sometime.
Characters/Pairings: Ace, Seventh Doctor
Warnings: Character death

Recced because: This story is short, but I think it beautifully encapsulates the Seventh Doctor and Ace relationship. The ending is bittersweet but fitting.

Story: UNIT: Invisible Man
Author: vvj5
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6,910
Author's Summary: In which the Doctor is AWOL, there's some unexplained disappearances in the West Country and the Brigadier's existence is in the hands of his other scientific adviser...
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, the Brigadier, Benton
Warnings: None

Recced because: Liz and the Brigadier investigate together! The story (and its companion UNIT: Haunting) is frothy and fun and chock full of 70s-era Doctor Who cliches in the best possible way. Liz and the Brig make a great team in these stories, and I love seeing them showcased like this.

Story: Stories You Don't Tell
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2,909
Author's Summary: She was simply the wrong mother for the wrong son.
Characters/Pairings: Original Character, the Doctor (pre-series)
Warnings: None

Recced because: Why I don't mind the half-human bit from the TV Movie: stories like this that take a throw-away line and give us a thoughtful, detailed backstory to go with it, along with an intriguing take on what might make the Doctor tick. And a story about the failures and frustrations of motherhood hits me in the gut in a really personal way. The story may be short, but the author packs such detail and emotion into it that I'm haunted by it long after I've read it.

Story: Not Dark Yet (series)
Author: Jaconda
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: Six stories, 50,447 words
Author's Summary: Exploring the universe from the Master's perspective and through the eyes of Leto, a woman whose world he destroyed.
Characters/Pairings: Delgado!Master, Original Companion, Third Doctor, Jo Grant, the Brigadier, UNIT, Master (other incarnation)
Warnings: None

Recced because: Unlike the Doctor, the Master has always preferred to travel alone. It's a challenge to any author to give him a companion without softening or altering his character too much. Jaconda manages to hit this delicate balance. While the Master and Leto gradually forge a partnership over the course of the series, the Master never descends into sentimentality. Leto herself is a well-rounded and interesting character: compassionate enough to evoke sympathy in the reader yet desperate and pragmatic enough to make her travels with the Master believable. Throw in a couple of guest appearances by UNIT and a few gripping adventures, and you've got a compelling read.

Note: The first two stories feature the Delgado!Master and the Third Doctor. The remainder were written before Series Three and feature a post-Time War original Master who is reunited with Leto. Although the Doctor doesn't appear in the latter stories, Jaconda sets up a deliberate contrast between the actions of the Doctor and the Master in the absence of the Time Lords.
