Story: The Sacred Art of Stealing
Author: Netgirl_y2k
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 458
Author's Summary: A very serious and in no way silly story in which the Doctor attempts to pinch Sarah Jane's companions.
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer
Warnings: None

Recced because: When I learned that Calufrax now allows you to rec fics that were previously recced more than two years ago, I knew I just had to throw in some old favorites. This fic, recced back in 2008, is still just as funny and enjoyable as when it was first written. The Tenth Doctor is in search of new companions, and where better to go than to Sarah Jane, who conveniently has some already-trained teenagers at the ready?

Word count: 1773
Characters/pairings: Clyde Langer/Dodo Chaplet
Author's summary: Holding hands, skipping stones and fighting aliens, who says romance is dead?
Warnings: none

Recced because: The random pairing generator can give us some truly cracky ideas that make for deliciously ridiculous crack!fic, but sometimes it also gives us cracky ideas that actually end up being weirdly plausible. This is just such a one. While it would never have occurred to me (or probably anyone) that Clyde Langer & Dodo Chaplet could make a good couple, in the infinite possibility of the vast timey-wimey Whoniverse, who’s to say that if Clyde travelled back in time & got stuck there for a while, he might not have met & hit it off with a nice young lady who knew as much about aliens as he did? This is a clever, breezy, yet truly touching story that makes this random pairing make sense, and bestows on Dodo the happier fate that she deserves as well. Go read it, and then you can win bets with your friends when you tell them, “yes, there is Dodo/Clyde fic, and it’s not even crack! Yes, for real! Bet you a fiver I’m telling the truth…” ;D

Story: No Longer a Sidekick
Author: Annariel
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 5930
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Clyde Langer, Fitz Kreiner, Rani Chandra, Samantha Jones, Sarah-Jane Smith
Author's Summary: How did Fitz Kreiner rebuild his life after he left the Doctor? Particularly when aliens will keep interrupting his plans.

Recced Because:

Fitz Kreiner is messed up beyond all belief, and he can't take two steps without wandering into trouble or making a horrible mistake, but for all his flaws, he's also very likeable and much more competent than he gives himself credit for.

Some unspecified time after the EDAs finish, Fitz leaves the Doctor and aimlessly drifts his way onto Sarah-Jane's couch, claiming that he's given up saving the universe and being a sidekick. With a little help from Sarah-Jane, the Bannerman Road gang, a gang of angry Ogron's, and a woman with a time travelling motorbike, he realizes that only half that claim is true.

This fic seamlessly blends canons and timelines from different corners of the Whoniverse. The dialogue is sometimes painful and sometimes hilarious, but always spot on. The details of time and place are richly imagined. The characters live and breathe. And Fitz is perfectly imperfect and compelling as he bumbles his way (with many friendly but forceful nudges) towards accepting his past and making a new beginning.

Hello one last time (at least for now), since my time recommending has come to a close. To make up for a number of days' absence, I will be recommending two stories today. The second will be in a separate post; I hope you enjoy both of them!

Story: Winter Where You Are
Author: [livejournal.com profile] st_aurafina
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 1,810
Author's Summary: Clyde has helped Luke sort out some confusing issues, but even he can't explain why the universe is named River. (SJA/Firefly crossover)
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, Luke Smith
Warnings: None
Recced because: You can probably tell from my other recommendations that  I have an amazingly large soft spot for crossovers; when they’re done well, they expand the universe in which we read. More than that, they also are proof that we’re reading an author whose sense of wonder is even more strong and flexible than the norm in the already creatively flexible universe that fanfiction is. This story by [livejournal.com profile] st_aurafina is a beautiful example of that. This story is remarkable for the cut glass purity of the conversations between River and Luke, the different ways that Luke interacts with the people he loves, and the brilliant way the author has drawn the similarities between Luke and River. (By the way, if you know the world of Firefly, you won’t be confused by the name “River.” If you don’t, all you need to know is that this River is not a curly-haired archaeologist.)

Rating: All ages
Word Count: 9297
Author's Summary: Sarah Jane has an unexpected visitor.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, K-9, Mr. Smith, Other Character(s), Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: I'm ending my recs with yet another new author, and an entertaining Sara Jane Adventures story that refers back to one of the most interesting canon characters we never quite met in Doctor Who (yes, I am being a little cryptic) and does so with immense style. Some familiar characters do appear, and it's fun and fast-paced throughout.

Characters/Pairings: Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton, Susan Foreman, Clyde Langer, Mr. Smith, Rani Chandra, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: I like stories which mix characters from wildly different eras of the Doctor's story. This one plunges Clyde and Rani, from The Sarah Jane Adventures, into the very first Doctor Who story, with potentially catastrophic timey-wimey results.

Story: Family Tree
Author: MinervaFan
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4750
Author's Summary: The Smith-Jackson-Langer-Townsend-Redfern Family Christmas will now commence.
Characters/Pairings: Alan Jackson, Chrissie Jackson, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer, Natalie Redfern, Sarah Jane Smith, Joshua Townsend.
Warnings: Spoilers for all the Sarah Jane Smith audios.

Recced because: MinervaFan can always be relied on for a good story, and this is no exception: the warmth and affection between the characters practically springs off the page.  The focus of this story is family in all its forms - biological, adopted, chosen, and everything in between - and the emotions involved are nuanced and complex, from Sarah Jane's insecurity about getting Luke's first Christmas just right, to a snapshot of Alan and Chrissie's improving relationship.  All in all, a perfect Christmas fic.

Author's Summary: The whole world watched the mysterious man pick up the torch. Only a few recognized him. (Olympics fic based on the events of Fear Her.)
Warnings: None
Recced because: I'm one of many thousands who signed the petition asking for the Olympic opening ceremony to include the tenth Doctor lighting the flame. This story uses the event as seen in Fear Her, and shows the reaction of former Companions and friends.

It was good to be back on Earth. Good to be back in Britain, even, though he didn't think he'd be returning to Cardiff anytime soon. America was a nice enough place but Gwen had fled as soon as she was able, and he was sick of saying goodbyes.

So now, Wales. It was a quiet life these days. He liked that. Gwen and Rhys were nearby (though not too near; Rhys had squashed the roommate idea rather quickly), and their daughter was growing up fast. She'd never call him Uncle Jack, he'd make sure of that, but he was starting to be okay with just being Jack again.

He worked at a little pub down the street, pouring drinks and flirting with the customers, nothing to do with aliens. He was self-aware enough to know that it wouldn't last long - he'd get bored, and God only knew he was too big a masochist to play it safe. Still. For now, it was nice.

It was also louder than usual. The place was packed, rowdy teenagers ordering drink after drink, men and women shouting over each other to make themselves heard. Everyone seemed to be looking towards the television, but Jack was sure that none of them actually knew what was happening. These people didn't need much of an excuse to get pissed and make noise, but the Olympics gave them one, and they were taking advantage. Nothing particularly exciting was even happening right now, just the torch and the crowds -

Story: Perfect Timing
Author: Mertiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1892
Author's Summary: During the aftermath of Sarah Jane's abortive wedding, she finds herself wondering how the Doctor managed to show up at exactly the right time. He's never done that before... Spoilers for The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, Luke Smith, Rani Chandra, Sarah Jane Smith, Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: For me Sarah Jane Smith will always be the quintessential companion. This story takes a canon intervention by The Doctor and runs with it, the result it a warm if slightly AU character study.

Excerpt: “You had rather…perfect timing today,” she said.

“I always have perfect timing!” the Doctor retorted, and Sarah Jane started to laugh. She couldn’t help it. It had been a terrible day, a truly awful day; the loss of Peter was still a fresh, open wound, but the thought of the Doctor having perfect timing was just too much. She sank backward against the door, her laughter perhaps a little hysterical, but it was good. The laughter was good. When she looked up, she wasn’t sure if the tears in her eyes were from the laughter or not. The Doctor was looking quite miffed, an expression that reminded her forcibly of her curly-haired, long-scarfed Doctor.

“I’m sorry,” she gasped. “It’s just…the thought of you having perfect timing. When did we ever end up somewhere you intended us to? And you dropped me off months and miles out of sync with where I was supposed to be.”

He had been looking more than ever like a sulky child, but the (frankly rather cute) expression dropped off his face at the mention of Aberdeen. He turned to the TARDIS controls. “But, no, honestly, you should go,” he said roughly.

“Perfect timing,” she said again. “I appreciate it, Doctor, I really do–but why this time? The children and I have been in danger before–often–twice now with the Trickster. Why didn’t you come then? Why didn’t you come when I nearly bollixed up the entire spacetime continuum trying to save my parents?”

Story: Carbon, Earth, and Stardust
Author: Rutsky
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2731
Author's Summary: She'd been to the stars and was now of the earth. Luke Smith waits for the world to start again.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde, Luke, Maria, Rani, Sarah Jane, the Eleventh Doctor
Warnings: None
Recced because: This is a lovely story coming in the wake of Elisabeth Sladen's real life death, examining how the parallel loss of Sarah Jane affects the characters who knew her. Rutsky handles it very carefully, respectfully, and gracefully, and it's very bittersweet--in reflecting on her loss, her friends and family also remember and celebrate her life.

Author's Summary: Luke, Clyde and Rani are not a triangle, and they add up to more than a guaranteed one hundred and eighty.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer/Rani Chandra/Luke Smith, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It's a SJA fic, which is always a great way to start the week - and in this case, it's also incredibly sweet. What strikes me most about this fic is how intertwined the friendship and love between the main characters is. Like the triangle it describes, neither is more important than the other - they're both two sides of the same coin. Just like all three characters manage to be in character and their awesome selves.

Story: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith: Extended Ending
Author: Weimlady
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4469
Author's Summary: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith was overrunning badly, so they had to cut a great deal of material from the end. Here's what you missed. It starts just where the televised version ends.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, Tenth Doctor, Luke Smith, Rani Chandra, Clyde Langer

Recced because: Like the summary says, this picks up where TWoSJS ends and assumes that the Doctor returns to take Sarah Jane and the kids on one last trip - a trip that includes dinosaurs, water fights, and, at long last, the elusive Florana. It's a fairly fluffy piece on the surface, though very much in character - Luke, Clyde, and Rani are represented especially well, amazed and in awe of what they're experiencing but still very much kids at heart. It's the ending that really packs a punch, though, when the adventure ends and both Sarah and the Doctor are forced to return to a reality that neither of them are quite prepared to deal with. Beautifully understated and bittersweet, the final scene does a great job of showing how they've grown both separately and together.

Hey everyone, it’s September 9th! You know what that means? We’re 107 days away from Christmas! And what better way to celebrate the festive season way, way too early than by fourteen tales of Winter Wonder with – get this – EVERY Doctor, Sarah Jane, Torchwood and K9?

Story: Christmas
Author: darkestboy
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 20,432
Author's Summary: A collection of Christmas themed stories throughout Time and Space. Spoilers from all of Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and K9.
Characters/Pairings: 9th Doctor, Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Jackie Tyler; 5th Doctor, Peri Brown; 10th Doctor, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, The Cybermen; K9 Mark 2, Alistair Gryffen; 7th Doctor, Ace, Mel Bush, Sabalom Glitz; 8th Doctor, Grace Holloway; 4th Doctor, Leela, Romana II; Jack Harkness, Alonso Frame; 3rd Doctor, Liz Shaw; 1st Doctor, Steven Taylor; 11th Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright; Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Clyde Langer, Rani Chandra, Jo Jones, Santiago Jones; 2nd Doctor, Ben Jackson, Polly Wright; 6th Doctor, Evelyn Smythe.
Warnings: None

Recced because: darkestboy is one of those authors who has done the seemingly impossible and written fan fiction for nigh-on every corner of the Doctor Who Universe, yet he has yet to receive any significant recognition for it, which is a tad unfair. This collection in question via a logical theme is a perfect example of this fact and every short story is great, ranging from the lost Christmas for Rose Tyler, to Winter reunions with Grace Holloway and Liz Shaw to the 1st Doctor dressed as Santa Claus! A fine introduction to this author’s work. The idea of a set of stories for all the Doctors is inspired too and he’s already started a second one for spooky Halloween. Indeed I’m thinking of trying something similar myself! Hope you like this!

Story: Going Home
Author: Brunhilde
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 8174
Author's Summary: A life can't be summed in a few tiny moments, but it can, possibly, be understood. Elizabeth Shaw through the years. (Crossover with the P.R.O.B.E. series, but no prior knowledge of it is required.)
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw/original character, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Three, Patricia Haggard (from the P.R.O.B.E series), Ten, Sarah Jane Smith, Clyde Langer.
Warnings: None

Recced because: I have to agree with the author's summary here. This fic is a collection of evocative moments - some happy, some quiet, some dark - from four different phases of Liz's life. Pulling together several strands of her story, Brunhilde shows Liz's growth, through all the new challenges she seeks and through her connections with some new and some old (some older than others) friends. This isn't the total of Liz's life, but it's a wonderfully clear and thoughtful insight into it.

Story: Broken Telephone
Author: Macadamanaity
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1,244
Author's Summary: Five conversations about something else.
Characters/Pairings: Luke Smith, Clyde Lander, Rani Chandra, Sarah Jane Smith, Maria Jackson (,K-9)
Warnings: None

Recced because: Good friendships fics are always a treasure, and in this Macadamanaity captured the friendship between the SJA gang perfectly. On the surface, Luke has finally learned the art of practical jokes and is testing his new ability on his old friends. Peel it a bit more and you get a wonderful depiction of friendship that is true to the characters and to the stories they are usually in.

Story: Every Jumped-Up Agency
Author: Livii
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1645
Author's Summary: Not even an alien invasion's straightforward at 13 Bannerman Road.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, Harry Sullivan, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Owen Harper, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings:None
Recced because: With the recent death of Elisabeth Sladen I particularly wanted to begin with a story that featured Sarah Jane Smith, but with a fun story rather than angst. Eventually I found this, a nice example of the humorous possibilities of tampering with the fabric of space and time.
[identity profile] dbskyler.livejournal.com
Yesterday we lost a member of the Doctor Who family: the lovely Elisabeth Sladen, who portrayed Sarah Jane Smith, one of the most popular characters in the history of the Whoniverse. In light of this sad event, I tried to think of what kind of fic I myself would want to read today, and came up with the choice below. It's one of the first fics I ever read on Teaspoon, and it's still an all-time favorite of mine. It brings me comfort today, and I hope it does the same for you:

Story: The Stardust Trail Leading Back to You
Author: queenofhearts
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1499
Author's Summary: The night sky exploded with diamonds; a sea of white hot sparks that hung in the air for a split second, motionless.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, Eighth Doctor, Maria Jackson, Luke Smith, Clyde Langer
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Eighth Doctor happens across Sarah Jane, who is watching fireworks with Maria, Luke and Clyde. (Although the teens appear in the fic, no knowledge of Sarah Jane Adventures is needed -- I hadn't seen the show when I first read this.) The writing is descriptive and lyrical, weaving the scene and then immersing us in it until we're carried along with the characters, enjoying their reunion. But what really sets this fic apart is the ending, as the author steps back and leaves the scene to the Doctor and Sarah, and to them alone. All we know is that whatever happened, it made the Doctor happy. We're left to invent the details, but rather than being frustrating, the ambiguity makes it a perfect little moment, residing forever within our imaginations.

Author's Summary: Rani and Clyde are not on a date; it's an investigation. It just happens to involve the local cinema on a Saturday afternoon, that's all...
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, Rani Chander
Warnings: None

Recced because:

Is it bad etiquette to rec something that was written for my fandom stocking? I sure hope not, because I love this fic so very much. Part of that might be my enduring love of the awesomeness that is Clyde and the win which is Rani. This fic finds the daring teenage duo going undercover to investigate an alien invasion at the local movie theatre. Thrills! Danger! Deception! Adorable awkwardness!

Warnings: None given.

Recced because: I've seen a lot of "Luke is really the Doctor and Sarah Jane's biological child!" stories, but this is the first one I've seen to convincingly pull it off. I was thrilled, because I was always really taken with the idea, but couldn't think of any way to make it work with canon. Rating:

Word Count:

Author's Summary:

Characters/Pairings:
Alan Jackson, Clyde Langer, Donna Noble, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Mickey Smith, Other Character(s), Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (Author Created).... phew...

Warnings:
None, although a touch of language near the beginning.

Recced because:

I love this story. Period. It's a Donna-centric AU, where Team TARDIS get a bit narked that the Doctor wiped Donna's memories, and try to help her as much as they can. After they find her a job, Donna does a little bit of Donna-iness, and she slowly puts her life back together again. Yes, I know that it's been recced before, but seriously, it's worth reccing twice. Watch out for the suprise twist ending :-) A great story, with incredible characterisations.

Warnings: None

Spoilers for The End of Time and episodes of The Sarah-Jane Adventures

Recced because: Most people would just be grateful if the Doctor saved their lives. Luke worries about it, in a wonderful display of existential angst and dawning apprehension. The story is simply a beautiful character study in which Luke gradually realises that his rescue could be a very bad thing, compares his rescue to the many deaths that the Doctor didn't prevent, and tries to work out how he can still be alive without damaging the timeline.

Recced because: The Tenth Doctor crosses over to the Sarah Jane Adventures to ask Sarah an obvious question, and it's just so much cracky fun. The story is very accessible even if you've never seen SJA, but if you are a fan of the show, you'll have extra appreciation for what happens at the end.

Recced because:
Overprotective parents can be very good for a laugh, done well. Overprotective parents with matter transporters are comedy gold. A short-but-sweet fic about how unfair it is that a parental figure who'll let you combat alien forces of darkness won't give you a moment's peace on a date with your boyfriend. Funny, warm and sweet, and Sarah Jane's attempts at intimidation are hilarious.

Characters/Pairings: Rani Chandra/Christina de Souza, Clyde Langer, Luke Smith
Warnings: None

Recced because: I admit to having a weakness for stories where Whoniverse characters who've never met before magically (and awesomely) happen to run into each other. This story features just that, and manages to thread it effortlessly with the events of a Doctor Who episode that I am personally very, very fond of. I like both Christina and Rani quite a lot, and they make for a really unusual and interesting team. Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer, The Doctor (10th)

Recced because: The universe is an unfair place, because it has denied us Clyde travelling in the TARDIS. Luckily we have fanfic to correct that mistake. This story is nothing but a ball of laughs in which Clyde gets to meet aliens, security robots, and, as always when the Doctor is around, do a bit of running. It may not be quite the adventure Clyde had hoped for, but it definitely made me laugh out loud.

Author's summary: Maria and Sarah Jane manage to spend Christmases together, despite the distance between them. Implied Maria/SJS crushing.
Characters/Pairings: SJS, Maria, Luke, Clyde
Warnings: Character death (but not a bad sort of character death)

Recced because: A completely unseasonal rec, but I don't care. This is a wonderful fic, jumping forward through a selection of Christmases over thirty years to show the SJA gang's futures through Maria's point of view. The characterisation is deftly handled, making it feel completely canonical to me, to be honest (while YMMV about the existence of Maria's crush, I'm completely convinced of it, so).

What I particularly love about it, though, is the way that with a few carefully chosen descriptions, [livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan captures the essential feel of not only SJA ("Luke has never seen fit to improve on Sarah Jane's somewhat anachronistic method of hiding the key. It's as if the mere act of living like nobody would find a key under a plant will somehow make it true."), but some wildly different parts of canon that Sarah's been involved in as well, and makes it all seem part of a seamless whole. Which, of course, it is, from some very old school stuff about themagic of the TARDIS to the new school excesses of there being aliens every Christmas. Lovely stuff.

Story: Innocence Lost (Emo Dance Remix)
Author: MinervaFan
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2160
Author's Summary: Wrong time. Wrong place. Wrong Sarah Jane. Really, really, really wrong Sarah Jane. Careful, Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer, Luke Smith

Recced because: Four meeting Sarah's teenage companions! I mean, do I really have to say anything else to sell this?

Actually, this is a companion story to another of [livejournal.com profile] minerva_fan's fics, but it stands quite fine on it's own.

Story: Jack and Sarah Jane, Down the Lane
Author: Mhalachai
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Jack Harkness really wasn't expecting to see Sarah Jane Smith behind door number one.
Characters/Pairings: Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Sarah Jane, Clyde, Luke, Maria
Warnings: none
Word Count: ~2,500 words

Recced because: This is sweet, fresh, and fun. Set after S2 of TW and S1 of SJA (so it's a bit scrambled by S4 of DW, but never mind that), Jack tries to recover a dangerous alien artifact and is rather surprised to meet Sarah Jane and her gang of teenagers, especially her teenage son, Luke. All the character voices are spot-on, with Ianto's internal observations on the whole thing especially hilarious, and the dialogue just sparkles. A very enjoyable piece.

Author's Summary: Harry meets Maria, Luke and Clyde
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Maria Jackson, Luke Smith, Clyde Langer
Warnings: None

Recced because: Everyone's so funny in this, the way they react to each other. And it uses a method of having people meet for the first time that works well in Doctor Who and doesn't seem over-used here.

Characters/Pairings: Alan Jackson/Sarah Jane Smith, Clyde Langer, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson

Recced because: Such a lovely character piece for Alan and Sarah Jane, about the universe and their children. Sarah Jane in particular sounds exactly like she should on telly, and this is just one of those good-feeling overall stories.

Story: Friends of a Friend

Word Count: 1796
Author's Summary: "AU: Josh Townsend and Natalie Redfern deal with tragedy. Spoilers for the DW episode Turn Left."
Characters/Pairings: Josh Townsend, Natalie Redfern, Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer
Warnings: Spoilers for Turn Left.

Recced because: In Friends of a Friend, MinervaFan takes the AU "right turn" scenario and uses it as an opportunity to explore Josh Townsend, Sarah Jane Smith, and the very-Sarah-Jane-theme of picking up the pieces when one's world has changed. The result is a unique and seamless melding of the Sarah Jane Adventures and the Sarah Jane Smith Audio Stories, with excellent characterizations throughout.

Story: Operation Awesome
Author: AND
Rated: All Ages
Word count: 13981
Author’s summary:  Does Donna really need to remember her travels with the Doctor to unlock the confidence and strength she found on her travels with him? Doesn't that suggest that there's something wrong with living on Earth? Sarah Jane and Torchwood gang up to save Donna - one way or another.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Sarah Jane Smith, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Ianto Jones, Mickey Smith, Clyde Langer, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Alan Jackson, Wilfred Mott, Other Character(s) - including some surprise Old-School companions
Warnings: None

Reason for Recommendation: Donna Noble is awesome. It's as simple as that. And so is Team TARDIS, or more properly the Doctor's 'biggest family in the universe'. AND set out to prove, in this story, that there is nothing less awesome about being a human being, living a life on Earth, than there is about travelling in the TARDIS with the Doctor. With or without the Doctor, with or without her memories of being with him Donna is awesome and has potential to be more awesome still. Oh, and the Doctor is a complete wanker - and that's a direct quote. I absolutely love the team effort in this story, from the Torchwood gang to Sarah Jane's crew to Martha and assorted others (Mickey and Jack's early conversation is side-splittingly hilarious), and the way they combine to - metaphorically - bang the Doctor's head against the wall of his own emo. AND writes Donna brilliantly too. Watch for Donna's meeting with the baby-faced man from Wales - and my favourite scene, close to the end, with the wonderful Wilf.

Author's Summary: Why would Sarah suddenly decide to get married? Luke is determined to find out the answer before he ends up with an unexpected stepparent.
Characters: Sarah Jane, Luke, Clyde, Maria, Alan, The Doctor (10th), Turlough

Recced Because: A fun, endearing, and cracky story deserves to be appreciated. In Altered States, Sarah Jane announces her wedding without sharing the groom's identity. Clyde, Luke, Maria, and Alan attempt to solve the mystery, while the Doctor arrives to cause a disruption.

"It began quite simply with Sarah announcing over tea that she was getting married. Luke was not amused."

Characters: Clyde, Luke, Maria, Sarah Jane, The Doctor (10th)
Warning: Spoilers for Journey's End

Recced Because:  Luke, Clyde, Maria, and Sarah Jane are as practical and witty as ever, calmly resolving a Series finale plot twist while the Doctor flails. Anyone could use a friend on an emo Monday and Sarah Jane is a marvelous one.

Story: Clyde Langer: Man from Mars
Author: livii
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3,587
Author's Summary: The year was 2015. Clyde Langer had a degree in Economics and Management. He needed a job. Something with aliens would work just fine.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde Langer/Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Harry Sullivan/Martha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith/John Benton, Emily Chaudry/Francis Currie
Warnings: None

Recced because: For one thing, there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features the characters from The Sarah Jane Adventures, and there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features the characters from Big Finish's UNIT audios, and there is not nearly enough fanfiction that features characters from both, and draws on Doctor Who's long history with such precision and excellent characterisation and makes it all so fun. Clyde Langer's future spells itself out here, with the tongue-in-cheek humour and occasional moments of real profundity that suit him so well.

Story: It's Aliens. No, Really!
Author: hhertzof
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2730
Author's Summary: Luke, Maria and Clyde are searching for aliens, the Doctor's searching for spare parts and Sarah's searching for peace and quiet.
Characters/Pairings: Donna, Tenth Doctor, Alan, Clyde, Luke, Maria, Sarah
Warnings: None

Recced because: Because it's utterly silly. Yet still in keeping with the tone of Doctor Who and SJA. There's quite a few characters and quite a short story, yet they still all have their own role in it. I really liked the kids' reactions to seeing a police box and meeting the Doctor.
