Story: Punchline
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 536
Author's Summary: Some people thought that Jo Grant was a walking blonde joke.
Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant
Warnings: None

Recced because: Jo Grant was blonde, ditzy, talkative . . . and someone you would never, ever want to underestimate. In this fun fic, Jo comes across an average person who makes the average mistake of thinking there is no brain under Jo's bubbling personality. The outcome made me laugh, and also reminded me that Jo was a companion whom even the Master learned to respect.

Hi! I'm [livejournal.com profile] newmoonstar (Meadowlark on Teaspoon) and I'll be your reccer for the next two weeks! Most of these recs will be on the shorter, more lighthearted end of the spectrum, since we could all use some relief from the stresses of the holidays. :)

Story: We Found Jesus In a Junkyard
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: all ages
Word count: 1282
Characters/pairings: Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright
Author's summary: How did Ian and Barbara explain their disappearance anyway?

Recced because: This is possibly the funniest fic I've ever read. I laughed so hard through the whole thing! Ian & Barbara explaining away two years of absence is the missing scene we all wish we could see, and I think this is my favorite, because it's completely absurd, yet still oddly plausible. Anyone who's ever had dealings with actual evangelical types will recognize the dialogue as utterly spot-on, and the deadpan delivery is just hilarious. Ian & Babs were characters who could use their wits to get out of any sticky situation, and I could totally see this happening. The bonus cameo appearance of another favorite character at the end is the cherry on top of a delicious treat. Go forth and read, but don't do it in a library, your laughter will disturb the other patrons. ;D

Story: Tiger Tales
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3,002
Author's Summary: After an accident in a bio-engineering lab, the Doctor tries to get Leela to have the changes reversed. However, she rather likes her new form.
Characters/Pairings: Leela, Fourth Doctor
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Clearly, I have an interest for stories involving companions, and some degree of cat-like behaviour. Also, this one is just... fun. I was in stitches over and over, and sometimes you just need that. You can hear the Fourth Doctor, and I love how he interacts with Leela in this story. It's a follow-up to another story, but also works on it's own.

Story: Felis Catus Temporus
Author: Lissy_Strata
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6032
Author's Summary: The Doctor needs Peri's help, but can she stop laughing long enough? (This fic has evolved into a series of unrelated cat stories.)
Character/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Fifth Doctor, Third Doctor, Second Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, Peri Brown, Tegan Jovanka, Nyssa, Ace McShane, Second doctor, Polly Wright, Ben Jackson, Jamie McCrimmon, Jo Grant, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Delgado!Master, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Sarah-Jane Smith, K-9
Warnings: Kitties

Recced Because:

Awwww, who's a kitty! Mostly the Doctor. Though several companions, enemies, and by-standers are also affected by acute Felis Catus Temporus in this adorable sequence of fic which answers several important, kitty-related questions such as: What happens when K-9 meets a kitty? Do kitties get along with nitro-9? Can you put a kitty in a fez?

If you want to know, read on and find out (just be aware that the resulting cute may leave you incapacitated with kitty!love for an unspecified duration…)

Story: Pollination
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1374
Author's Summary: While touring an alien garden, Peri runs headlong into a cliché.
Characters/Pairings: Peri Brown, the Sixth Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's a sex pollen fic with Peri and Six, and it's hysterically funny, and also very, very clever. Notice the lack of Peri/Six pairing in the header. Yes, this is a genfic, and also a sex pollen fic. It makes sense! It makes more sense than any other sex pollen fic you have ever read. As for the ending? I'm still laughing.

Story: Relax!
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 475
Author's Summary: A nice day out ends with a mad dash back to the TARDIS.
Characters/Pairings: Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (1st)
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a nice, light fic in contrast to yesterday's. It is a short fic with the typical tale that we all know of the TARDIS landing somewhere and the team ending up running back to it. There's a bit more to it than that, but to tell you what it is I'd spoil the whole fic. So I'd just go and read it, it won't take long.

Story: An Unlikely Escape
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1384
Characters: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot, Daleks
Author's Summary: They're trapped in a locked room with a Dalek. Can the Doctor talk their way out of this one?
Warnings: Swearing
Recced because: This feels like it should have been part of a Second Doctor serial. It's got everything that's awesome about TARDIS Team Cute, with Zoe being clever and Jamie being brave and safety clings, and I could see and hear Two perfectly with his brilliant panicked bluffing. It's all wonderfully silly, and then the end happened and I nearly woke up the house with my giggles.

Title: Lost In Translation
Author: Lissy Strata
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 22029
Author's Summary: The TARDIS's translation circuit is sabotaged by small, furry aliens. Then it all goes downhill from there.
Characters/Pairings: First Doctor, Ian, Barbara, Susan
Warnings: None. Except don't be drinking anything while reading.

Recc'ed Because: I am so happy that this story got finished in time for me to rec it! The entry says Unfinished but the last chapter is entitled "Epilogue" and it's...well it's a fantabulous ending to a hilarious romp, so I'm going to call it finished for the purposes of recc-ing. Since I recc-ed a very dark and bleak story yesterday, now it's time for something completely different. I'm talking about cantankerous One, earnest Susan, Ian and Barbara adjusting to the weird Life and Times that come with the TARDIS... and a community of alien Possums, complete with generals, angry moms, angry mobs of moms, cults, scientists, insecure teenaged soldiers, LARP-ers, and sci-fi writers. Possums. With names like Murray, Philly, Squigly and Maude. Whose children stay out to all hours of the day and likely forget their protective sunglasses. There is also mystery, celebrations, kidnappings, captures, escapes, rituals, games, reluctant apologies, and a trial. Oh, and did I mention the TARDIS translator circuit goes missing early on?

Honestly I don't read a lot of the first Doctor. I'm not very familiar with the era, but this story makes me want to read more. It is like what would happen if the very first TARDIS foursome starred in a Whovian Panto play. Actually, much of it reminds me of the silliness (brilliant silliness) of the Big Finish Audio "The One Doctor." Anyhow, I laughed. A lot. Even if you've never seen one episode of William Hartnell & crowd, this story will make you laugh too. The visuals are cracktastic, the story zips all over the place (although manages to seamlessly switch around POVs very effectively), and well, it's just plain fun.
