Yes, we've been quiet over here at [community profile] calufrax for quite some time, and unfortunately, that's probably going to continue. But the good news is that the lovely [personal profile] thisbluespirit, whose recs you've enjoyed (I hope!) many times, is launching a new reccing comm:

Reccing on [community profile] tardis_library is open to all members, who may rec all types of fanworks posted on any (accessible) platform from any Doctor Who-related fandoms. Please consider joining and participating! I know I will be.

Story: Beauty Under Rubble
Author: Pete_Galey
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 841
Author's Summary: Not all the Doctor's rescues are of planets or people.
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Ace McShane, Bernice Summerfield
Warnings: None

Recced because:

It's short and slightly bizarre, but this fic absolutely captures the essence of the Seventh Doctor. There's a convoluted scheme, a bit of philosophy, a tragedy, and a wild dash of whimsy.

Story: The Children of the Moon are as Heavy as Stones
Author: Nonelvis
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 2682
Author's Summary: "You're in hibernation," the Doctor said softly. "The one time a Quill's unconscious mind is apt to wander."
Characters/Pairings: Miss Quill, Twelfth Doctor, Miss Quill/ Twelfth Doctor, Miss Quill/ Ballon
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because:

If you haven't watched Class yet, I recommend viewing it before reading this fic (unless you want to thoroughly spoil yourself, as I did). If you couldn't care less about watching Class, then I still recommend this fic, because it's fantastic. There's a dreamy realism to it that works whether you know the canon or not. There is mythology and world building. There are nightmares and body horror. There is exceptionally good Twelfth Doctor characterization. There is well-written sex.

All of which is accessible without really knowing what's going on, but the biggest draw for me is the way Nonelvis has got inside the head of a uniquely vulnerable character who spends most of her time in canon doing her best to act unbreakable and unconcerned. Miss Quill and the Doctor make for a very interesting pairing, and one which I would happily read more of.

Story: (Not Quite) Relativity
Author: alittletoolate
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1016
Author's Summary: Post The Fires of Pompeii fic.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble
Warnings: None

Recced because:

The Tenth Doctor was wild a mixture of things: sometimes melodramatic, sometimes glib, sometimes scared and needing, sometimes joking and unconcerned. This fic finds a way to balance between the extremes of that chaos to paint an interesting character study of who the Doctor was at that point in his life. It starts with a hearty jolt of angst before veering quickly towards warmth and humour. It show the Ten & Donna partnerships (one of the strongest in the series IMO) at it's very best. All that, and it even manages to insert a few Old School references and some very interesting ideas about the TARDIS along the way.

Word Count: 1242
Author's Summary: Though they come from different worlds, Vicki and Troilus find common ground to build their life on.
Characters/Pairings: Vicki, Vick/Troilus
Warnings: None

Recced because:

Vicki and Troilus are an odd couple. Born centuries apart and brought together by plot device they don't seem particularly suited to each other. In this lovely fic, Meadowlark shows that despite the obvious differences, Vicki and Troilus have more in common than meets the eye.

Waves! Hello all, I'm Clocketpatch and I will be your reccer for the next fortnight. I have a mix of stories to share with you, though I'll admit in advance that the balance does skew towards Twelve, which is probably quite appropriate with the new series airing.

Story:
Honest Mistakes
Author: Singwithin
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 888
Author's Summary: The Doctor is on a mission, Clara is acting strange, and Buckingham Palace has entirely too many corridors.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald, The Doctor (12th)
Warnings: None

Recced because:
This is a short fic but it packs in a fun bit of plot (Alien invasion! Undercover investigation!), along with some good Twelfth Doctor characterisation. I think Twelve’s character has evolved somewhat over the past few series, and this fic has his early days’ insults and face blindness down pat. I did have a brief “come on” moment, because surely Twelve was never quite as oblivious as the plot necessitates, but the epilogue and author’s note explain all, and left me grinning and wondering how Twelve will end up unraveling the mess he’s got himself and Clara into.

Story: Sleep and the Single Time Lord
Author: nostalgia
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1,324
Author's Summary: The Doctor is tired but he can't get to sleep. Can Nardole help?
Characters/Pairings: Twelfth Doctor, Nardole
Warnings: None.

Recced because: After the season premiere I was searching for a fic like this, mostly because I wanted to see a fic with Nardole. It's a a spot on characterization of Nardole, and I think it's very adorable he's trying to be helpful to the Doctor and comfort him. It's a platonic piece, but I do see a hint of Nardole caring a little more for the Doctor here. Still, Nardole is the perfect company for the Twelfth Doctor after River, and the author nails their relationship. Plus, Twelve is wonderfully grumpy and spot on as well. A very enjoyable, well-written piece!

 Story: Silence Fell
Author: nerdowl
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 450
Author's Summary: The universe's reaction at the end of the Time War
Characters/Pairings: The War Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I liked this little piece, and found it very lyrical and insightful, especially from the point of view from the universe itself as a character. It also touches on introspection of the War Doctor, and the piece feels deeper and vast in its language and portrayed feelings beyond it's small word count. Very enjoyable short fic, and it's good to see more pieces on this particular incarnation of the Doctor.

Story: The Worst Plan
Author: Vigs
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,315
Author's Summary: Takes place immediately after Family of Blood. Martha explains to the Doctor just how bad his plan was.
Characters/Pairings: Martha Smith, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I think what I really enjoyed about this story was that Martha confronted the Doctor about her feelings and what she went through in "Human Nature/Family of Blood." I really admire the author's portrayal of Martha, touching upon her courage and her tenacity. I could totally see Martha doing this. She'd been mistreated too much before, sometimes by the Doctor himself, and I felt some relief on her part that she was able to express herself here. Great depth and introspection too. A little character-driven gem that should get more attention.
paynesgrey: The Impossible Girl (drwho-clara)
[personal profile] paynesgrey
Story: Lies and Loyalty
Author: Gallifrey Immigrant
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 499
Author's Summary: The wind flows through my hair as I wait. But she's not coming back this time.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswald, Me, (Jane Austen)
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I really enjoyed the concept of this fic, especially in Jane Austen's point of view. Even as such a small piece, I really found there was a lot of depth to her encounter with Clara and Me, and it gives really nice fan service to Clara's interest and attraction to Jane, even when it was only a passing line in canon. The ending is very bittersweet in a way, and I like how Clara truly becomes like the Doctor in this, a renegade from the Time Lords, and the cost of Jane's excitement in knowing Clara, she has to lose her memories. A really insightful piece.

Story: Go Home
Author: Penny
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 909
Author's Summary: Jamie wants to go home. The Doctor misunderstands. Confusion ensues.
Characters/Pairings: Jamie, Second Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This was an adorable little piece with a misunderstanding that brings about a sweet exchange between the Doctor and Jamie, as well as a bit of nice introspection on Jamie's part. The Second Doctor is perfectly in character too, and his disappointment in thinking Jamie is leaving him is enduring. Very enjoyable one-shot on these two characters.

Hello! Happy to be reccing again!

Story: Golden Future
Author: perfectlyrose
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1451
Author's Summary:The Doctor is rather fascinated by an anachronistic blonde with impossible timelines that he stumbles across on a asteroid bazaar.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Rose Tyler
Warnings: None

Recced because: I really liked the concept of this fic, and Rose's situation really made me curious to see more of her and what she was up to, but having her run into Eight really felt like it could happen and this would be the way the characters would react. The author really picks ups on their chemistry, as if Eight had been Nine or Ten, but she creates something a little bit new with them too. Cute piece, and great characterizations.

Story: At Last a Dragon
Author: paranoidangel
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 985
Author's Summary: John Chesterton doesn't believe in Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy or the Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, John Chesterton
Warnings: None

Recced because: John Chesteron is the son of Barbara Wright and Ian Chesterton, the first human companions of the First Doctor. Now a rock star going by the name of Johnny Chess, he never believed the crazy stories his parents used to tell him of this mythical alien called "The Doctor." You don't believe in dragons either, do you? At least, not until you meet one . . .

Story: alive [the time they talked]
Author: alex_unsigned
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3569
Author's Summary: Sexy is - oh, what's that word, something sad and huge and beautiful - Idris is dead, House is attacking, and the Doctor is too close to being alone in his own head. (The Doctor's Wife, from the TARDIS's perspective. One-shot.)
Characters/Pairings: The TARDIS, the Eleventh Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: Written from the TARDIS's perspective during the episode The Doctor's Wife, this fic goes beyond the episode to explore the Doctor/TARDIS relationship in a way that's powerful and moving. It's difficult to write the TARDIS well, but this fic does a wonderful job of capturing her and her Thief.

Story: Valentine's Day, This Year
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2441
Author's Summary: How do you hold a memorial for people who don't even remember they died?
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones
Warnings: None

Recced because: Shortly after I first figured out what Calufrax was, I read this fic, and I immediately wanted to rec it on Calufrax. But it was recced by someone else long before I got the chance, and there's a reason for that: this is one of the best fics on Teaspoon. So here I am reccing it again, and if for some reason you haven't read it yet, go read it now. It's about Martha Jones dealing with the aftermath of the Year That Never Was, and it's personal and powerful, and the ending is so touching and uplifting it just made me cry again even though I already knew what happens.

Word Count: 1522
Author's Summary: Rory warms up a cold Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: The Eleventh Doctor, Rory Williams
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Doctor is suffering from hypothermia, and Rory takes charge. I love a good hurt/comfort fic, and this is an especially good one, with both Eleven and Rory firmly in character. This fic will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy, and sometimes we all need that, including the Doctor.

Story: Soldiers Without Guns
Author: Paladin
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 7999
Author's Summary: Alternate ending to the Poison Sky. The Doctor tries to save the world from the Sontaran threat but finds that even Time Lords shouldn't neglect the paperwork.
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, Martha Jones, UNIT
Warnings: None

Recced because: There's a bureaucrat at UNIT who wants the paperwork on the device the Doctor used to eradicate the Sontarans' poison gas in The Poison Sky. Did the Doctor file a Hazardous Emissions Management Plan? Not only is this fic extremely funny (and strangely plausible), but the twist at the end is brilliant.

Story: The Sacred Art of Stealing
Author: Netgirl_y2k
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 458
Author's Summary: A very serious and in no way silly story in which the Doctor attempts to pinch Sarah Jane's companions.
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, Clyde Langer
Warnings: None

Recced because: When I learned that Calufrax now allows you to rec fics that were previously recced more than two years ago, I knew I just had to throw in some old favorites. This fic, recced back in 2008, is still just as funny and enjoyable as when it was first written. The Tenth Doctor is in search of new companions, and where better to go than to Sarah Jane, who conveniently has some already-trained teenagers at the ready?
dbskyler: (dalek tea)

Story: Z-67
Author: Llywela
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1206
Author's Summary: Missing scene from The Zygon Inversion.
Characters/Pairings: The Twelfth Doctor, Clara, Osgood
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Twelfth Doctor episode The Zygon Inversion had a callback to Classic Who days -- the gas which could destroy the Zygons by turning them inside out, Z-67, was developed by Harry Sullivan, a companion of the Fourth Doctor who was a medical doctor, a naval officer, and someone who had met the Zygons. It all makes sense, except for one little thing: would Harry Sullivan really create such a horrific weapon? This wonderful story explains what happened, and is the perfect explanation of Z-67 for those of us who know and love Harry.

Story: The Worst Doctor Who Story Ever
Author: Astrid
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 608
Author's Summary: For April Fools Day, I present something I wrote last year as a parody of all the bad Doctor Who fics (well, bad fics in general). I'm very sorry about this, I really am.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, The Master, Adric, Ace, Peri, Mel, Romana II, Sarah Jane (and more)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I laughed non-stop at this absurd yet accurate send up of badfic. We've all seen them- probably lurking in the dark corners of fanfiction.net: fics written as one endless paragraph, riddled with misspelled words, oblivious to punctuation or grammar. They usually feature a Mary Sue and some character bashing for good measure. This one ticks all those boxes perfectly, and I couldn't stop giggling as it hit every cliched trope in Doctor Who fandom over the head with a mallet. This fic is short, so the (intentionally) terrible formatting shouldn't be an obstacle to enjoying this hilarious parody. (And honestly the misspellings just make it funnier- I nearly lost it at 'Parry' and 'Ramona' LOL)

Story: Gothic Romance
Author: vvj5
Rating: teen
Word Count: 7513
Author's Summary: It is a fact universally acknowledged that any beings splintered in time will inevitably run into each other. No law says it has to end well, though…
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald, Scaroth
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is an entertaining and atmospheric short story that's part gothic novel parody, part heist fic, part timey-wimey sci-fi story, and combines characters from many different eras of Doctor Who in a very clever way. It's probably best read after you've seen 'City of Death' and know who Scaroth is, but the central concept of characters who are displaced in time and thrown together in unusual circumstances is probably easy for any Whovian to catch on to. You wouldn't think 'fake relationship' trope fic featuring a time-stream Clara & a classic Who monster could be so amusing, but you'd be wrong. With it's crisp dialogue, well-realized setting, and unexpected pathos toward the end, I could easily picture this making a very fine Big Finish audio. I thoroughly enjoyed this one the whole way through, and hope lots of others will too.

Hi, I'm [personal profile] newmoonstar (Meadowlark on Teaspoon) and I'm finally squeaking in before my reccing period is over with a few great stories for you all! First up:

Story: Genius Loci (The Evidence of Things Unseen Remix)
Author: AstroGirl
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 685
Characters: Leela, Fourth Doctor, the TARDIS
Author's Summary: Leela does not believe in spirits. But she knows there is something here with them.
Warnings: none

Recced because: It's an interesting look at how Leela views the TARDIS, and how her supposedly primitive upbringing none the less gave her the ability to understand and connect with it without the Doctor having to explain it to her. A very lovely and insightful vignette.
nonelvis: (DW river's very special birthday)
[personal profile] nonelvis
Story: Scytale
Author: platypus
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 500
Author's Summary: River needs the Doctor's help to read an encrypted message.
Characters/Pairings: Eleven/River

Recced because: Okay, I freely admit this fic was written as a surprise birthday gift for me, and the author is a dear friend, but in my defense, the story makes me laugh every time I read it, and I needed a pick-me-up today. Which this story does flawlessly in a mere 500 words, including an absolutely terrible (and terribly filthy) pun directly related to the titular form of encryption. All I can say without spoiling the story is that it involves River summoning Eleven for help decrypting a message he is uniquely qualified to decrypt -- and at 500 delightful words, you owe it to yourself to find out how that decryption happens. (It's also less dirty that you'd think for an adult-rated story -- not a complaint, honest! -- so if you're uncomfortable with explicit sex but can handle a filthy joke or two, you're fine here.)

Story: Ladies Living Sequentially
Author: rutsky
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2,672
Author's Summary: Liz Shaw wanted someone to talk about her old, odd world. Jo Grant was the perfect someone.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Jo Grant

Recced because: I was looking for another story to rec this week, preferably one involving Liz Shaw, whom I adore, and I ran across this gem I'd somehow missed. rutsky is a reliably good author, and here she takes on one of my favorite tropes: the one where two companions who never met in canon meet up to dish about the Doctor. Jo and Liz have lived long, full lives by now -- the story takes place after the death of both the Brig and Sarah Jane -- so they bring the wisdom and perspective of age to the conversation, while still sounding exactly like themselves. It's a delightful read, and I'm very glad I found it.

Story: Cluster-Bombing
Author: Prochytes
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3,410
Author's Summary: (Crossover with "Sense8"): Five times Torchwood ran into the cluster, and one time they didn't.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Jack Harkness, and the Sense8 characters Will, Riley, Nomi, Amanita, Lito, Hernando, Sun, and Mr. Whispers

Recced because: How often do you see a Sense8/Torchwood crossover? I know this is the only one I've seen, and it's got everything I love in a Torchwood story -- specifically, Gwen Cooper being a take-no-prisoners badass -- as well as the most vital part of any fanfic (for me, anyway) -- specifically, characters who sound like themselves. Prochytes nails each sensate's voice, and the whole story feels so natural and well-realized that it's hard to believe it isn't canon for either show.

Greetings, [community profile] calufrax! I know it's been a little while, but we're back, and I'm going to kick things off with two weeks of recs. (I'm still looking for reccers starting in late March, too, so please volunteer if you're interested!)

Story: Extract (Artificial Vanilla is Cheaper)
Author: livii
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 907
Author's Summary: This has happened more times than he'd like to admit.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler
Warnings: Noncon/dubcon

Recced because: I was going to use this first rec to take advantage of our new rule allowing previously recced fics, but when I checked back through the comm archives to find out when this story had last been recced, it turned out ... it hadn't been. Which is frankly shocking, because it's a hell of a story: a dark look at how the Tenth Doctor and Rose might have had a damaged, dysfunctional relationship based on other relationships they'd had and lost. I've shipped Doctor/Rose for years, but I still love a story that explores how things could go terribly wrong, and this is unquestionably that story. It's short, but it packs a hell of a punch.

Our poll results were conclusive: you voted 3:1 to move us to Dreamwidth. So, on February 27, we'll relaunch at , which is already restyled and fully imported with the LJ archives.

What happens next
  • Well, I need reccers, obviously, including one starting February 27. Please sign up over at Dreamwidth! Tell your friends!

  • To encourage more reccers, I am making a rule change: up to 50% of your recs may now be previously recced stories, provided they were recced at least two years ago. The Dreamwidth import preserved all original posting dates, so you'll still be able to tell how long it's been since your fave was recced.

  • Don't have a Dreamwidth account? No problem. They're free, and even if you don't feel like creating one, you can still join the comm via an OpenID-friendly service like LJ, Facebook, Twitter, etc.; you just won't be able to post anything other than comments on your own. You're still welcome to rec by emailing me your recs to post, so sign up today!

  • Don't want to use Dreamwidth, but still want to keep up with the comm? We'll continue to crosspost to Tumblr (once I reset my IFTTT recipe), and I've also set up an RSS feed you can subscribe to on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] calufrax_dw. Just follow that feed to continue seeing posts from the comm.

Any questions? Let me know. And thank you, as always, for your continued participation in and support of the comm.

It's been a while since we were active, which is entirely my fault. (I plead "2016," which isn't an excuse, but is an explanation I suspect most of you will understand.) We are of course out of reccers and need people to sign up -- but before I get to that, let's talk about what happened to LJ at the very end of the year.
LJ's current status, plus an important poll )

With that out of the way: WE NEED RECCERS. Because this poll affects our location, and people need time to prep recs regardless, let's say that the first reccing slot will begin on January 30. If you want to rec, now's the time to volunteer -- and even if you don't feel like reccing, please do spread the word!

Thanks as always for your patience with me while I sort out these comm details. The comm is quite literally nothing without all of you.

Author: merripestin
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 117
Characters: Third Doctor, Jo Grant
Author's summary: Without Jo to make the tea. (hate challenge drabble for lj:dw100)
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is a poignant vignette of a moment from an ordinary day for the Third Doctor after Jo has left. In a just a few simple sentences, it beautifully paints a picture of how much he misses her. A top notch, heartbreaking little piece.

Story: The Silent Land
Author: AJK
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 33,156
Characters/pairings: First Doctor, Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton
Author's summary: A lost tomb, an archaeological dig, a near death experience and reality starts to slip.
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is an exciting and suspenseful adventure story that kept me completely absorbed through all five chapters. Set in the interval between Susan's departure and Vicki's arrival, it features the First Doctor, Ian, and Barbara joining an archaeological dig on Earth in the year 1999, and encountering some seemingly supernatural phenomena from Ancient Egypt. Featuring a fascinating dose of Egyptian mythology, using Classic Who's penchant for characters who are physical doubles of our regulars to good effect, and including a good deal of playful and charming banter from our TARDIS team (and a good amount of Barbara/Ian shippiness), this is an entertaining and satisfying story that I'm glad to have stumbled across.

Word Count: 738
Characters/pairings: Fourth Doctor/Romana I
Author's summary: "I am rather fond of you," the Doctor said, in an unexpected fit of post-coital affection.
Warnings: none

Recced because: I don't even ship Four/Romana, but this fic was so funny I was willing to go with it. The Doctor and Romana's pillow talk in this is hilariously droll and full of witty jabs at both Time Lord society and their own relationship, and perfectly in character. I could hear both their voices clearly in this dialogue, which is no small feat considering how the banter between Four and Romana I was some of the best of any Doctor & companion team, IMO. It was lovely to hear the flavor of that recreated here. A delightful (if mildly NSFW) read.

Author: Styrofoam monster
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1795
Characters: Jo Grant, The Master (Simm)
Author's summary: AU. Jo Grant has a visitor.
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is a sad but interesting AU in which an older Jo converses with an oddly familiar visitor who shows up on her doorstep bearing grave news. The ensuing conversation alternates between measured wariness and stark candidness as old wounds and new are brought up, with the passage of time and the burden of grief poignantly leveling the playing field between them for one brief moment. Hello all! I'm [livejournal.com profile] newmoonstar, (aka Meadowlark on Teaspoon), and I'm glad to be back reccing for the next two weeks! I'm going to start with a fic I recently found which has immediately become one of my faves:

Story: See Ye Not That Bonny Road
Author: Lyricwritesprose
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 12,195
Characters: Jamie McCrimmon, Eighth Doctor
Author's summary: Jamie McCrimmon is wounded, exhausted, and feels like a stranger in his own head.
Warnings: explicit violence (also spoilers for 'The War Games')

Recced because: Do you ever come across a fic that you read for the first time and immediately say to yourself 'omg, this is perfect'? This is one of those fics. I can't believe it hasn't been recced before, but I'm all too happy to do the honors!

Fresh off my first read of it, I'm still in flail mode, but I'll try to highlight it's strengths with a modicum of clarity:

First of all: Post-War Games Jamie. What happens to companions after they leave is a great subject for fic, and Jamie is a particularly interesting case, seeing as his memory is supposedly erased- but how can all the memories be truly gone after all the ways he's learned and changed? How can he forget the best friend he's ever had? In this story, he hasn't quite forgotten, and the memories come to him in snatches of ideas- and he makes sense of them in the context of his own time and culture. The references to Scottish faerie lore are perfectly fitting, and the attention the author has paid to all the little details made me, as someone who once considered getting a degree in folklore, absolutely delighted.

Second: The Eighth Doctor. The scenes between Eight and Jamie are spot on. Sensitively written, thoughtful, and a little bit heartbreaking, but in a good way. This fic does a beautiful job of highlighting the strength of the Doctor & companion bond regardless of which face he wears.

Third: Kirstie McLaren gets a featured role, in a way that makes her more than just an ancillary love interest to Jamie's story. (And hints at interesting possibilities for the future.)

Basically, this is a beautifully written, touching story, with a great mix of action/adventure and insightful character-based scenes. I could hear all the characters voices perfectly while reading it, and I'm accepting the whole thing as my new headcanon now. If you love Jamie and wish his fate had been different, reading this might be a tonic for some of those War Games blues. (Though I would advise having some tissues handy while reading it- the feels will sneak up on you!) Go forth and read: this fic is the kind of fic that ficcing is all about.

Story: The Number
Author: Shivver
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2128
Author's Summary: When Clara needs help with her computer to connect to the Internet, she calls a help line. But where did she get that phone number from?
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald, Other Character(s)
Warnings: Missing Scene

Recced because: I love this author's work. She is another writer who has a tendency to see things we all miss and just run with it - and she runs well! This was inspired by Clara's address and by the phone number that was given to her by someone that led to her adventures with a certain time traveler we all know and love. There aren't many fics out there that tackled this idea. And of the ones that do, there are very few who do so with such style, imagination and fun! To sweeten the deal, there is a surprise character that I know a lot of you love and will make this fiction even more enjoyable than ever. This fiction is set at two different times - before the call and after...and it just rounds it off and makes the piece complete in a bittersweet, lovely way. This is a definite must-read for all! The answer, alas, has already been given on the show, but this was such a fun speculation, we'll dub it timey-wimey and call it 'alternate head-canon' (because it is just too perfect to NOT be head-canon!) I won't give too much away, but they say the first taste brings one back for more...

Just a tiny taste... )

See? So enticing! Now go..read...enjoy - and leave some love. And if you have the time, feel free to investigate her other works. They are well worth that time!

Story: Elemental
Author: Clocketpatch
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2146
Author's Summary: His friends are stars, burning brightly. They are the earth he clings to. They are ripples across the water. They are his reason.
Characters/Pairings: Clara Oswin Oswald, The Doctor (12th), Amy Pond, River Song, Rory Williams
Warnings: None

Recced because: Well, it is no secret (I'm sure!) how much I love this author's work! I love the descriptions, imagery and the way I can see the Doctor (and the Companions!) through her eyes. She always brings her best to the table with every word and sentence - and this is seriously no exception! This fiction describes the Companions (through them, of them) with the image of the elements - and it is extraordinary how she just nails them perfectly...and gives us an ending that is unexpected - and yet makes total sense in the aftermath of the rest of the fiction. I'm not giving this one away - this is definitely (like most of her works!) a Must-Read! Though a little taste to get one started never hurts, yes?

Just a taste... )

Go, read, enjoy - and please let her know how much her fiction rocks! I'm sure she will appreciate the Love!

Hello, hello all!! I am PhoenixDragon and though I am rather late with it, I am your reccer for the next little while. All apologies for being late this week - but I shall try to make up for this by bringing some of the best work out there! Let me get started with this goodie...

Story: Concentration of Measure
Author: eve11
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 227
Author's Summary: Trust is information. Information is the inverse of variance. The TARDIS must learn how to understand River Song.
Characters/Pairings: River Song, The Doctor (11th), The TARDIS
Warnings: Character Study, Introspection

Recced because: Not only is this author one of my favorites, but there is a good reason why: she can take concepts and thoughts that are beyond my ken and make them understandable. She can take ideas and facts that are not within my own realm of knowledge and make them simple to understand and grasp. She finds ways to do that with every tale - and this one is no exception. It is short (too short, in my opinion, but I feel that way about a lot of the fiction I read!) yet sweet, and even though I would love more, it says what it needs to within the words it is constructed of (my personal greed aside). This is Time and Events from the view of the TARDIS. That is a hard concept to grapple with in the first place, as we are a very linear species with a rather wonky understanding of time and events, even as they happen! Our memories aren't the best, either, to tell the truth. But here we have a character that has perfect recall (should She so choose) - in ANY event along the timelines. She is only restricted to Her (and Her Pilot's) events and timelines, but that is only because She no longer has access to the broader views and understandings of the TARDISes of Gallifrey.

But I'm getting ahead of myself here. This is a perfect little drabble about Sexy and how She 'sees'. What she CAN see and what She chooses to remember (whether it be the future or the past). I recommend anything from this author. But I'll give you this fic to jump off with.

Just a mere taste to get you going... )

I do hope you enjoy her work as much as I have! Be sure to leave her a review telling her so! And I shall be reccing another beauty here very soon...
