Story: ... Who Burned Like Starfire
Author: Nemo the Everbeing
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 2314
Author's Summary: On her birthday, Ace receives two gifts: one intentional and one not.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane/7th Doctor/TARDIS
Warnings: None
Recced because: this story - the first Who fic this writer ever wrote - helped introduce me to the Seventh Doctor, and to the delightful, redoubtable, Ace McShane. What's more, she did so by weaving a stunningly beautiful scene of the universe as seen from the door of a blue police box, and showing a keen understanding of the true nature of the Doctor, and of one very brave and perceptive human girl.

Story: Lost Luggage and Lost Souls
Author: Nemo the Everbeing
Rating: None, but I'd call it Teen
Word Count: 20,338
Author's Summary: Because listing bus stations as something you hate just begs writers to put you there. The Seventh Doctor and Ace join an odd cast of characters in time to get held hostage, and the Doctor remembers why he prefers saving worlds to smaller crises.
Characters/Pairings: Seven, Ace, many original characters
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: It's rare to find a story in which you see the Doctor and his companion largely through others' eyes, and even rarer to find one that does a good job of it. Nemo the Everbeing brings together a collection of very lost souls – a runaway, an ex-con, a single mother escaping an abusive husband – all of whom need more help than ever when what looks like a robbery becomes a deadly hostage situation. Seven is at his manipulative best here, and Ace is drawn just right – tough and brash, but still a little vulnerable. Combine the excellent characterization with a gripping plot, and you've got a truly terrific story.

Story: Falls the Shadow
Author: Nemo the Everbeing
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: It was supposed to be nothing more than a seaside holiday for two old friends to relax and recharge, but something went wrong. Then a lot of things went wrong. Now, as Ace deals with the emotional fallout of a realization that could put an end their decade-long friendship, the Doctor discovers something potentially deadly about the world on which they’ve stopped. And then the darkness falls.
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor, Dorothy (Ace) McShane (Seven/Ace)
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: I never thought I'd actually like, no love, a Seventh Doctor/Ace story. The Seventh Doctor was my first Doctor, just as Ace was my first companion, and I always thought theirs was more of a mentor/mentee or father/daughter relationship. That is until I read this story. This is an older, wiser Ace and a clever, clever Doctor. Nemo the Everbeing has a great talent to bring these characters to life in such a way that I can say 'yeah, I can see that happening' when it comes to a pairing that I never thought I'd be able to read. The storyline is rich and engaging, with the underlying romance a perfect counterpoint to the angst and entertainment of time going dreadfully wrong. If you are hesitant over the idea of Seven/Ace, do give this a try. I guarantee that it will sway you, because this is a writer whose pairing of these characters I can get behind. Nemo has several fics that are just as brilliant as this one, and I highly recommend them all, but this one has a special place in my heart.
