Story: Aftermath
Author: Adalia Zandra
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5836
Author's Summary: She didn't know them, but she knew that they'd abandoned him. And she found herself hating them for that.
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Sarah Jane
Warnings: None

Recced because: Well, because Ten is my favorite new series Doctor, and Sarah Jane is my favorite classic series companion, and I am a sucker for the "Ten goes to Sarah Jane for comfort" trope. In the wake of the end of Series 3, the Doctor has been left alone again with a story of his own to tell but no one to tell it to... no one except Sarah Jane, who draws it out of him with her skillful and compassionate questioning so that we get to hear about the Year That Never Was from his POV, without embellishment -- well, nearly.

Teaspoon is awash in angst fics, yet this is one of the relatively few (in my experience) that treats the Doctor as a *person* and not a chew toy. It's my go-to fic whenever I've just rewatched TLotTL.

Story:
Growing Pains
Author: Adalia Zandra
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: ~30,000
Author's Summary: GPW1.01: After Voyage of the Damned, the Doctor visits Jack. But this Jack is very surprised to see this Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Jack/Doctor
Warnings: some angst

Recced because: This is a wonderful story that gives us a wonderful view of the relationship between Jack and Ten. They have such a tangled relationship, especially at the beginning with the whole 'wrong' conversation. And yet, when Ten is feeling like he's hit rock bottom he feels like he can only go to one person - Jack. Not his Jack, but Jack all the same. Ten is heartbreaking in the beginning of this story, and Jack is just perfect. Their relationship is wonderful here.

Story: Triangles
Author: Adalia Zandra
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6975
Author's Summary: It is a well known fact that triangles are the strongest of all architectural structures. There’s a reason for that.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Jack/Rose
Warnings: None

Recced because: Anyone who knows me is well aware that I'm exceptionally fond of Nine/Jack/Rose OT3 stories.  Some well-done hurt/comfort doesn't exactly go awry, either.  In this story, one of our fandom's real masters of h/c takes my fave threesome and runs them through the emotional blender, beautifully.  There's no sex but plenty of love, and some really nice Nine-POV work.  It's a rough ride with a wonderfully cuddly ending, and a great way to start the new year.  :D

Story: Passing Notes
Author: Adalia Zandra
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,158
Author's Summary: Were they passing notes like schoolboys now? Well, two could play at that game!
Characters/Pairings: Ten/The Master (Simm)
Warnings: None

Recced because: As an antidote to yesterday's Master story, I present this delightful bit of crack, in which the Master has survived the events of the Valiant and is living with the Doctor onboard the TARDIS. His many escape attempts have failed, and he's bored out of his mind, leading him to begin a note-writing campaign requesting some very personal attention. What makes this story wonderful isn't just the concept, which is plenty funny on its own, but the author's perfectly rendered illustrations of Gallifreyan messages left on Post-It notes, photographed in the appropriate locations.

Rec: Sense

Story: Sense
Author: Adalia Zandra
Rating: Teen
Author's summary: One by one they left him, increasingly cut off, alone, in the silence and the dark, until only touch remained… touch, and pain.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Rose, Jack (Ten/Rose/Jack)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I'm a sucker for hurt/comfort fic. It's my guilty pleasure. Give me angst, beat up the characters, but give me the heart-warming comfort at the end. This story delivers in spades. Adalia Zandra brings a terrifying world to life where the Doctor's senses are stripped away, leaving him nothing but pain. Every aspect of this story is so vivid, so painful, and so real that it practically hurt to see how much pain the Doctor was going through. But it doesn't end there. Adalia then gave me some of the best comfort and the most realistic ways of dealing with the Doctor's losses that I've ever seen. This was a painful, touching, and most of all real story and I recommend it to anyone who loves hurt/comfort fics as much as I do.
