Story: The Wolf and the Mockingjay
Author: HonorH
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 37880
Author's Summary:Rose Tyler is chosen for the Hunger Games. Martha Jones volunteers to save her little sister. When they meet in the arena, something happens that will change the world. Hunger Games crossover.
Characters/Pairings:Ace McShane, Amy Pond, Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Jackie Tyler, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Other Character(s), River Song, Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: Explicit violence
Recc'ed because: I am not much of a Hunger Games fun, but I was really intruiged to see the concept used in the Whoniverse. Rose here is incredibly strong, and her interactions with Martha are not only adorable, at times they brought me close to tears. 9 and Donna are great as mentors, and Jack as Cinna is just perfect. I also love that this doesn't just tell the Hunger Games by replacing Katniss et al with Whoniverse characers; Honor truly makes the idea live a new life on it's own, and makes magnificent use of the concept.

Story: Five Ways the Doctor Didn't Get Out of 18th-century France (but Could've)
Author: HonorH
Rating: General
Word Count: 6144
Author's Summary: What if Reinette hadn't found a way for the Doctor to return to Rose? Would he (not to mention Rose and Mickey) have been stuck? Nah!
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Madame de Pompadour, Mickey Smith, Original Companion, Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (Author-Created)
Warnings: None
Recced because: Five Things stories are always interesting exercises, and this one is a tour de force, mixing everything from comedy to angst, crossovers and straight Who fic.

Story: Controller
Author: HonorH
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1572
Author's Summary: Her name is Lily. She had a mother. When she was five, the Daleks took both from her.
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, the Controller
Warnings:. none

Recced because: The Controller is such an important catalyst in the episode Bad Wolf, but we know very little about her, and how she came to defy the Daleks. This fic creates a heartbreakingly beautiful view of the person behind the Controller.

Story:  Survival
Author:  honorh
Rating:  Teen
Word Count:  2,275
Author's Summary:  We all do what we have to do to survive. Heroes crossover.
Characters/Pairings:  Rose Tyler/Claude Raines (Heroes)

Recced because:  This is honorh’s Heroes crossover, featuring a coworkers-with-benefits arrangement between a post-Doomsday (no S4) Rose and Claude Raines (if you’re not familiar with Heroes, he’s a man with the power of invisibility played by none other than Christopher Eccleston).  They’re both haunted by the past, although Rose has become totally badass as she copes with the present.  The sarcastic humor that characterized Claude even more than Nine is definitely there.  Honorh melds the fandoms smoothly and nails the characterization.  "Survival" is truthful, entertaining, smart, and rather bitter.  There’s a more hopeful sequel tucked away in one of honorh’s meme collections.  Some familiarity with S1 of Heroes will help when reading this.  If you, like me, pass the time until the Christmas special by watching each week’s Heroes and thinking, “that was OK, but it needed Claude,” check this out.

Story: Hen Night
Author: honorH
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1078
Author's summary: "Martha and Donna get bored and drunk, and the Doctor and Rose get a little 'help.'"
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Rose Tyler/Tenth Doctor.
Warnings: Mildly spoilery for the end of S4, though thoroughly AU.

Recced because: Martha and Donna make a great team, especially when they're drunk and making suppositions about Rose and the Doctor's, er, private activities. It's laugh-out-loud funny, snarky, and totally the way the season should have ended (leaving aside the fact that this would never have made it onto a family show). I was going to rec something serious or Old Skool (or both) today, but darnit, the brain just wants to think about fun and crack and the Awesomeness That Is Donna this week, so I finally gave up. It's too late to argue with any of my split personalities, anyway ('tis still Wednesday here, but only barely!).

Story: happily (not) ever after
Author: HonorH
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3289
Author's summary: Life's too short, and love's too precious. In the end, the being once known as Jack Harkness is given the chance to make a new beginning.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I'm a sucker for (almost) happy endings, especially when they involve Jack. At the end of his incredibly long life, Jack is offered a chance to re-write the past. And the result is a realistic and lovely story that has a clever way of examining the question of 'what if'.

Story: Kiss Me, Please Kill Me
Author: HonorH
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1143
Author's Summary: Even from beyond the grave, the Master torments the Doctor--and his latest companion.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, the Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: In Kiss Me, Please Kill Me, the Doctor steals Donna’s copy of the Master’s novel, which features suspiciously familiar love interests adoring the suspiciously familiar main character. I literally laughed out loud at this well-written and entertaining story, in which Donna and the Doctor demonstrate the secret pleasure and captivating horror of really bad fiction.

"Don't tell me it's not yours, because it's signed, 'To the Lovely Donna, Hugs and Kisses, Harry Saxon'--and his handwriting's appalling, too."

Story: Under the Skin
Author: HonorH
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 8847
Author's Summary: Intern doctor Martha Jones doesn't expect the appearance of heiress Rose Tyler in her ER to turn her life upside-down, but after Rose starts appearing in Martha's dreams, Martha begins to realize that they're both in danger . . .
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Rose Tyler
Warnings: N/A

Recced because: There are not enough Martha and Rose stories out there, and this is one I keep coming back to. Rose in her new universe becomes the patient of intern Martha Jones, and due to some wacky Torchwood hijinks, Martha ends up in Rose's dreams. Martha without the Doctor is still the same as Martha *with* the Doctor, if a little less travelled. She's still smart and clever and quick on her feet, and doesn't let little things like comas or impossible aliens get in her way. And Rose *after* the Doctor is exactly what I would expect to see - she's working at Torchwood and trying to build a life for herself.

Story: Out of Joint
Author: HonorH
Rating: PG-13? They talk about sex...
Word Count: 44603
Author's Summary: Crossover with Joss Whedon's Firefly. A mysterious incident in the Time Vortex forces the TARDIS to set down on Serenity. Mal finds a few headaches, the Doctor finds a mystery, and River finds someone who speaks her language.
Characters/Pairings: 9, Rose, Jack, and the Crew of Serenity during the series. (So, all sorts of implied pairings.)
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is the best written Firefly/Doctor Who crossover out there. (Yes, the best in the 'Verse.) HonorH's River is just perfect, and the interactions between River and Nine are pure gold. The characterizations are excellent. Really, I could just sit here and heap praise on this fic all day. But wouldn't you rather pop over and see for yourself? Just think what could happen with our happy trio on the same ship with Mal and Co. And yes, the dinosaurs make an appearance.

River has something to say. )

Story: Coming Around
Author: HonorH
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 7710
Author's Summary: He sees her for the first time. She sees him for the last.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, Eighth Doctor, Ninth Doctor, Fitz Kreiner, Nine/Rose
Warnings: graphic sex, character death

Recced because: This is a wonderful story that bridges the gap between the end of the Time War and the Doctor meeting Rose. A year after saying "goodbye" to the Doctor at Darlig Ulv Stranden, Rose has started moving on with her life. Then she sees the TARDIS fall from the sky, a casualty of the Time War.

One thing I love about this story is that both Rose and the Doctor are broken, but they're at different steps in the healing process. Rose is slowly putting things back together at this point, while the newly regenerated Ninth Doctor is all but falling apart. Once upon a time, a stranger held out his hand and offered to show Rose the universe; now she finally has a chance to repay him by making certain that he becomes the man that she met in her past and his future.

Story: The Life Fantastic
Author: HonorH

Rating:  G (Doctor/Rose intense friendship, Jack friendship)

Author's summary: One life, from beginning to end. The Doctor grieves, lives, fights, dances, eats chips, and falls in love. Not such a bad life after all.

Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, with insights into Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a gorgeous, poignant study of the Ninth Doctor. His life is defined by sacrifice: born out of one, dies in another. It’s a chronicle of his journey from that painful birth to his completely voluntary death, committed for love, and it’s a story about how he heals, helped by the most unlikely of companions for a battle-scarred Doctor: the nineteen-year-old shop-girl, Rose Tyler. It’s about why he needs people around him, and ultimately what leads him to sacrifice once more, for a much smaller cause this time than the fate of the universe. In companionship comes healing, and in death comes peace. This story is poignant, but ultimately so very affirming, and a perfect tribute to the Ninth Doctor.

Story: Man-Whores and Wealthy Women
Author: HonorH
Rating: All Ages (there's talk about sex but no onscreen action)
Author's summary: The Doctor and Jack have gotten themselves in a sticky situation and are about to be auctioned off as concubines on the planet Trioditis. What will Rose have to do in order to free her men?
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Rose, Jack
Warnings: None

Recced because:
I love TARDIS teams with more than one companion. Partly this is because I have a huge weakness for comedic stories where all but one of the crew haplessly land themselves in hot water, whereupon the one who's been smart enough not to get him or herself dragged off to the nearest dungeon rolls their eyes and sets out to rescue their comrades. I especially love it when the Doctor's one of the ones being rescued, so this story hits an awful lot of my buttons by having Rose hatch a brilliant plan to spring the Doctor and Jack from a concubine auction by posing as a spoiled socialite (complete with a little alien dog). The dialogue for all three is spot-on, and the Doctor and Jack's attempts at sexual one-upmanship are hilarious.
