Title: Look
Author: Inkfire
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1200
Author's Summary: Lucy Saxon watches the world, and walks around with vacant eyes. A series of drabbles about the Master and his wife.
Characters/Pairings: Simms!Master/Lucy Saxon, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: Explicit violence

Recc'ed Because: Written as a series of 100 word drabbles, this fic highlights Lucy Saxons dependency of the Master and her complicated feelings for him. It’s uncomfortable and brilliant to read.

Title: Any Colour You Like
Author: Calapine
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2744
Author's Summary: The Master's curious about his future wife.
Characters/Pairings: The Master (Delgado), Lucy Saxon
Warnings: references to self-harm and suicide ideation.

Recc'ed Because: This story is a paradox, but it works nevertheless. The Master invites Lucy Saxon into his TARDIS and she accepts. The Master is curious and a bit uncomfortable, unfailingly polite and perhaps he do things to Lucy’s mind she doesn’t remember after. He may do it to be kind. And Lucy is damaged, which anyone who has survived the Master probably has to be, but she is also not afraid anymore. The chemistry between them too are very interesting and it is a story which can be read several times. It also beautifully and poetically written.

Story: The Courtship and Marriage Rituals of Time Lordshttp://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=50276

Author:Lyakahttp://www.whofic.com/viewuser.php?uid=18628

Rating: All Ages

Word Count: 8855 words

Author's Summary:
Or, how the Doctor and the Master finally stopped courting and got married, to the relief of most of the known galaxy and the confusion of the humans in attendance.

Characters: Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones, 10th Doctor/the Master

Warnings: Spew alert! Do not attempt the ingestion of food or liquids while reading this!

Recced Because: This is probably the funniest thing I've ever read, hence the spew warning. I'm not into slash fics usually, but this one is too good to pass up. I laughed until I cried, then laughed some more. Man U, enough said.

Hello and goodbye. My week is at an end - hope you've enjoyed the stories I chose, and thanks for having me.

Story: How Lucy Saxon Saved the Day (much to Martha Jones’ disgust)
Author: Darth Loki
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1714
Author's Summary: Lucy Saxon saves the world on a shopping trip to Harrods, in sexy red heels. Martha Jones is disgusted. Harry would be proud. Slight crack!fic.
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I adore Lucy Saxon and all the ways in which she is broken, and love fic that explores this. The Lucy of this story has been jossed which is a great tragedy - she has an aloofness which strikes me as ringing very true, yet she's also quite, quite brilliant. The author calls it slight crack!fic, and whilst I can see why, the story is so undeniably plausible that part of me will always believe that it happened. A true delight on every level!

Story: For Destruction, Ice
Author: AstroGirl
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1010
Author's Summary: Combines two requests: "Something where the Master takes on Lucy as a companion and wife without anything so underhanded as mind control and the like" and "the Master takes Lucy to Utopia."
Characters/Pairings: The Master (Simm)/Lucy Saxon
Warnings: None.

Recced because: The author's note says it was supposed to centre on the Master, but much like in many of the good Doctor Who stories (and episodes), it's the companion that's at the centre of the piece, and in this case, this companion is Lucy Saxon. Despite being relatively short, this story does a good job of studying her without giving a too easy way out.

Story: The Problem With Boxing Day
Author: elisi
Rating:all ages
Word Count: 8,239
Author's Summary: Alexander Saxon (six years old) hated Boxing Day almost as much as he loved Christmas. How does Alex cope with his human family? And how does the Doctor deal with raising the child of his archnemesis?
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, Other Character(s), The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings:. none

Recced because: A little something to get in the holiday spirit. This is one of a series of stories in a AU where the Master and Lucy had a son during The Year That Never Was. In this story, Alexander is forced to deal with his extended (human) family on Boxing Day. It does a good job of showing a child’s viewpoint, and is a microcosm of the central tension in this series – how Alex reconciles the fact he loves both his father the Master, and the Doctor, who is helping raise him, and how needs to find his own path between the two of them.

This is my last rec this week (and the longest fic!). I hope everyone's found at least one new story to enjoy!

And don't forget - if you've read and enjoyed any of the fics this week, leave a review (however brief) - such things are better than meat and drink to us fic authors.

Story: A Time of Grace
Author: Rivendellrose
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 44439
Author's Summary: Following the Time War, Romana discovers that she has enemies she'd rather forget, friends she's never met, and a duty to the memory of her planet.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Gwen Cooper, Jack Harkness, K-9, Leela, Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones, Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Romana II, Romana (Author Created)

Recced because: It's a brilliant post-Time War fic that combines Classic and New Who seamlessly.

There was a... thing, in the Tardis control room.

The Doctor had picked it up on a dark, ravaged moon in the Equinos system - one of those places he hadn’t really meant to go to, but had nonetheless found himself landing on after entering random coordinates into the Tardis’ systems. The last time he’d been there there had been the first tiny, delicate sparklings of life beginning to burst out on its icy, rocky surface. Now, nothing.

Nothing except this thing. The thing, as he’d begun to think of it. It was almost at the point of developing independent capitalization in his mind, and that was, in his experience, never a good sign.

The thing came up to about the top of his breast-bone, and was about as wide as his arms could reach around, though it tapered a bit at the top. When he first saw it he’d had the sick thought that it was a new kind of Dalek armour that had somehow survived the war, but closer inspection hadn’t borne that out. It was gold, but the shape and design of it was completely unlike their circular knobules and venting. It wasn’t made of dalekenium, anyway, but some other metal equally impervious to all the scans he’d subjected it to. The elemental make-up seemed somehow familiar, but he couldn’t quite put a finger on it.

Story: Between Canons: The Year That Never Was.
Author: Elisi
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 12128
Author's Summary: So, what happened to Buffy and friends during The Year That Never Was? Because they were not exactly powerless, having in their arsenal not just Slayers and witches, but also a Hell God. (Standalone FitB to My Immortal. Crossover with BtVS/AtS.)
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Lucy Saxon, Other Character(s), The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings: None
Recced because: My favourite Whoverse crossover is Elisi's My Immortal, a brilliant canon-compliant Buffyverse / Whoverse story I've recced previously. The Year That Never Was is the second of two sequels (a third is WIP), and by far the most serious in tone. It asks how The Master handles powerful supernatural opposition, and comes up with some uncomfortable answers. Some knowledge of the Buffyverse is useful, but most things should be obvious from context.

Well, it’s my last rec of the week – I’ve had a great time finding a variety of stories to recommend. Now, for those who love the sugary goodness of a well crafted crack!fic, I’ll leave you with a song.

Story: Doctor Who, Broadway Style! Les Miserables
Author: azriona
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3476
Author's Summary: The Master is plotting the enslavement of the Earth, and the Doctor is in a wheelchair. Whoever will be able to stop him? Martha Jones, that’s who! Featuring a lovely duet between Rose Tyler (yes, Rose Tyler) and the Doctor. It’s not just Crack!Fic, it's Musical Crack!Fic!
Characters/Pairings: The Tenth Doctor, The Master (Simms), Francine Jones, Clive Jones, Tish Jones, Lucy Saxon, Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Tom Milligan, Jack Harkness,
Warnings:. none

Recced because: The utter brilliance of this musical crack!fic is right there in the title. Les Miz fans, be prepared to start humming "At the End of the Day."

Story: Dead Worlds
Author: Branwyn
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1057
Author's Summary: Lucy Saxon lives in the TARDIS now, and finds that one mad alien is much like another.
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, the Doctor, references to the Master.
Warnings: darkfic

Recced because: Dead Worlds is a creepy, creepy, creepy look at the Doctor's darker side, which canon often seems to only glance at in flashes and then forget as quickly as possible. But the Doctor isn't human, and he isn't particularly sane, either, and this fic lingers over that in a very haunting way.

So Primsong has already done her first rec, but since it's still Sunday in my time zone, I figured I'd do my last. And since Remix Redux just opened their archives today, I thought I'd rec a remix done two years ago (which is coincidentally the first time I participated.)

Story: Superb (The Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak remix)
Author: LizBee
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1913
Author's summary: Romana has improved on the Doctor's technique by quite a bit.
Characters/Pairings: Romana/Strella/Reinhardt, Romana/Mel, Romana/Tosh, Romana/Harry, Romana/Simm!Master, Romana/Lucy, Romana/Sarah Jane, Romana/Martha, Tenth Doctor
Warnings: no actual on-screen sex (though there's plenty of implying)

Recced because: It's silly, naughty, and just plain fun, not mention pretty darn funny as well. I especially enjoyed the running gag about week-long Time Lady orgasms. (The story it remixes, Livii's she'll be superb is fun as well, but Magicallaw already recced it two years ago.)

Everything you ever heard about Time Lord sexuality, or the nonexistence thereof, is a lie.

Okay, historically it's true that Time Lords were a bit repressed. The grandeur and majesty of the heritage of Rassilon didn't exactly lend itself to elaborate scenes of debauchery. But these days, there are only a handful of Time Lords around, and it's safe to say the species is, as a whole, pretty damn sexy. If a skinny man in a suit offers you a ride in his phone box, you'd best pack your good knickers. If a dapper madman takes you out dancing, you should resign yourself to the inevitability of a night of passion and bad pop music. If a sweet-looking blonde gives you a flirtatious look over the rim of her cocktail glass--

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Story: Betrayal
Author: edzel2
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 5294
Author's Summary: Part One of my series, The Master Chronicles. This is Lucy's story, told through her eyes from when she first meets Harold Saxon to her final act of betrayal on board the Valiant.
Characters/Pairings:Lucy/SimmMaster
Warnings: Explicit Sex, Explicit Violence, Swearing

Recced because: This story is a bit more adult than many I've seen recced here but the ticklish subject matter is handled with a maturity and grace that speaks volumes. The eloquent words seem to pull you right into the brain of a young woman called Lucy and you can watch as horrified as she, herself, is as her world falls down. The author manages to rise above your insipid I-used-to-be-evil-but-the-Doctor-came-and-I-got-better portrayal f Lucy and shows instead a girl as human as you and I and as easily relate-able.
[identity profile] librarylover82.livejournal.com

Hello!  I am LibraryLover82, and I’ll be reccing this week.  I read a bit of everything, so I’ll be bringing you a mix of good stories from the Teaspoon archive.  I’m trying to vary the story length, as well as the characters.  I can’t completely avoid authors who have been recced before, so I’m not even going to try.  As far as I know, none of these stories have been recced here before.

Story: The Valiant Tales
Author: RobinC
Rating: Teen
Word Count:
3,200
Author's Summary: A series of drabbles about the people who lived, worked, and suffered on the Valiant during the Year That Never Was.

Characters/Pairings: Primarily Other characters, with appearances by the Tenth Doctor, The Master(Simm), Lucy Saxon, Tish Jones, Francine Jones, Jack Harkness
Warnings: Some explicit violence

Recced because: I’m going to start the week on an unusual note by
recommending a series.  Never fear; it is a series of drabbles, which makes the length about the same as a regular story.  This author can do more with 100 words than some people can do with 1,000.  These are portraits of people who were either forced to work on the Valiant, or who volunteered to work there, during the Year That Never Was.  In 100 words RobinC paints a picture of the best and worst of humanity, and illustrates just what a terrible year it was.  Some are surprising, some are shocking, some make me cry, and some make me proud to be a human.  They all make me think; is this what I would have done if I had been there?

Story: Girl Anachronism
Author: Willdew
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1292
Author's Summary: No more Lazarus. No more Harry. They're through with men; they shan't be tricked again.
Characters/Pairings: Clive Jones, Francine Jones, Leo Jones, Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones, Tish Jones
Warnings: Spoilers for the end of season 3, of course.

Recced because: Unconventional femmeslash is one of my most favoritest things to read, so a story with Tish/Lucy makes my heart sing with joy. The language is lovely, the characterization pitch-perfect, and it highlights a pairing there should definetly be more of in fandom. So, go and read!

Story: And Hate the Idle Pleasures of These Days
Author: Calapine
Rating: Doesn't say. Let's make it Teen, just to be sure.
Word Count: 1957
Author's Summary: When Harry Met Lucy
Characters/Pairings: Simm!Master/Lucy Saxon
Warnings: Evilness, violent imagery.

Recced because: This is a sort of prequel to Beauty Was the Cause of That Effect. Basically, ''Harry'' meets Lucy at a ball, becomes fascinated by her quiet insanity and decides that she's the ''one''. Recced because of the wonderful language and the almost beautiful madness of Harry and Lucy's relationship.

Story: Beauty Was the Cause of That Effect
Author: Calapine
Rating: All Ages, according to the author
Word Count: 3076
Author's Summary: It's the little things that bring two crazy people together.
Characters/Pairings: Simm!Master, Lucy Saxon, Simm!Master/Lucy
Warnings: General sociopathy by both characters, the Master snapping a bloke's neck, violent imagery

Recced because: Like the author said, it's about two people being brought together by their mutual insanity. Calapine makes you believe that yes, this is indeed how it must have happened. Lucy is wonderfully mad: a bored rich girl with a taste for death and Saxon!Master is his own delighful self, including something bordering on admiration for Lucy's potential for evil.

Story: Some Are Boojums
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1765
Author's Summary: What I tell you three times is true - AU from Last of the Time Lords.
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings: none

Recced because:

Some Are Boojums is a mind-trip, a slippery thing to grasp, and an amazing feat. It is amazing. In the spirit of the story I’ll tell that three times: Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I’ve read it at least eight times, and new meanings unfurl themselves each time.

Amy_wolf has taken Lewis Carol’s epic nonsense poem The Hunting of the Snark and used it as the basis for a truly inspired glimpse at what might have happened had the Master lived at the end of The Last of the Timelords. The Master narrates the story to various unidentified companions, and, as he slips further into insanity, you can’t help but feel sorry for him. As for the Doctor, well, his insatiable desire to ‘fix’ things is worrying to say the least!

You don’t need to have read Lewis Carol’s poem to understand this story (I hadn’t the first time I read it), but I encourage you to seek out that poem anyway, since it’s readily available online and makes for a good mind-trip in and of itself.

Story: Valiant
Author: MeiLin
Rating: adult
Word Count: 38,526
Author's Summary: The Story of the Year that Wasn't, from the viewpoints of almost everyone involved.
Characters/Pairings: Clive Jones, Francine Jones, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Leo Jones, Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones, Owen Harper, The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm), Tish Jones, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: It's the Year that Wasn't, and it's not fluffy. It is long - but rewarding.
Recced because: Firstly, because MeiLin has written what might be the definitive exploration of the Year That Wasn't here. Secondly, because she is a master at taking minor characters in a greater drama and seeing them as they could be, then writing them into reality. Even more important, she makes those minor characters integral to the Whoniverse she explores and the stories they inhabit. Once you meet Shae Han, you'll see what I mean.
And with that, my week of recs is over. I had a blast doing it, (although I apologize for posting rather more slowly than I should have occasionally,) and I hope you enjoyed at least some of the stories I presented. Thanks!

Story: With Still No Master Plan
Author: [livejournal.com profile] biichan
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2079
Author's Summary: The Rani's back in business, the Master's not quite dead after all, and it's all Lucy Saxon's fault.
Characters/Pairings: Rani/Lucy, the Master, Ten, Donna
Warnings: None given

Recced because: Lucy hooks up with a fobwatched Rani, the Doctor babbles a bit, and the Master boogies to the KLF. What's not to love?
[identity profile] biichan.livejournal.com
Story: The Women
Author: nostalgia
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 403
Author's summary: Lucy/Martha, subject matter may upset some people
Characters/Pairings: Lucy/Martha
Warnings: I should hope abortions don't need warnings

Recced because: It's fairly common to find babyfic on the Teaspoon. Frankly, they're a dime a dozen. But a fic where the characters seriously consider abortion as a response to an unplanned pregnancy? Ah, there's a rare bird indeed. Rarer still is a fic where the character in question goes through with the abortion. The Women is one such fic.

It's quite short--barely four hundred words--but every word is carefully chosen and the effect is powerful in its simplicity. The mood is quiet and tranquil, not necessarily something you would expect from the subject matter, and the unexpected relationship between the pregnant Lucy Saxon and Martha, the only doctor she can trust, develops with perfect dreamlike logic. Nostalgia is known for writing very good fics, but I think she really outdoes herself with this one.

Story: How Martha Jones Saved the World and Lucy Saxon Initiated Divorce Proceedings With Extreme Prejudice
Author: LizBee
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 12199
Author's Summary: An alternate resolution to the "Sound of Drums" cliffhanger, featuring a cavalcade of companions, UNIT soldiers and rather more Time Lords than one usually sees.
Characters/Pairings: Liz Shaw, Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones, Other Character(s), Romana (author created), Sarah Jane Smith, Tegan Jovanka, The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm), UNIT
Warnings: None

Recced because:Let me count the ways...
  1. This was the first someone-else-in-a-pocket-watch story I read, and it was inspiring.
  2. This was much, much better than "The Last of the Timelords".
    1. a better plot, which made a lot more sense
    2. a different but interesting origin of the Toclafane (this story was written in the week between "The Sound of Drums" and "The Last of the Timelords", which was a feat in itself).
  3. UNIT!
  4. Former companions! Particularly Ace, Liz and Jo.
  5. Romana!
  6. And Martha did rock, too.
  7. Snark, banter, and good characterisation.

Series: Bless
Author: commodoresexual
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: Every couple has a love story. Some of those are just more messed up than others.
Characters: Other Character(s), The Master (Simm) (Simm!Master/Lucy)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I absolutely adore commodoresexual's take on the Master/Lucy love story. These characters are so dark, so broken, and so terrifyingly right for each other that it's simply fantastic. There are more stories in this series than just the two that are posted on Teaspoon, and I really wish commodoresexual'd post the rest on Teaspoon for everyone to enjoy. But even in this smaller snippet, this series has definitely become part of my personal canon regarding the Master/Lucy relationship. There are some terrifying moments, dark aspects, angst (I do love me some angst), but overall, you can really see how and why the Master fell for Lucy and vice versa. It's an ode to darkness, and I do love it.
