Recced because: This story is magical. Dodo got shafted in the series and she REALLY got shafted in the extended universe. This story takes a look at what might have happened to Dodo in her post-TARDIS years and manages to make the character more real, more heartbreaking, but in the end more hopeful than I would have thought possible. The language, the interweaving of events from different eras, it's all beautiful. I can't recommend this story highly enough.

Hope and love and companions realistically dealing with the aftermath of their time with the Doctor. It also has one of the greatest Brig cameos in the history of fanfic. I love this story so much it's ridiculous.

Recced because: This story blew me away. I knew that x_los wrote some of the best Delgado!Master around, but I wasn't prepared for the power of this story and it nearly broke my brain. She understands them so well - their connection, their history, their obsessions - and she makes their relationship and all their questionable actions utterly believable. This is a very dark look at what the Master really wants from the Doctor and who these two men really are to each other.

Not only is it hilariously in character and VERY hot, it made me start shipping Six/Donna like crazy. They are absurdly perfect together and this author does a fantastic job of showing us why.

Story: A Phantom of Clouds

Recced because: I am one of those Old Skool fans that came into the fandom through NuWho (entirely due to presence of Eccleston), and this is one of the first Doctor Who stories I ever read. I figured after devouring so much more Who-fic, and becoming so engrossed in the classic series, I would return to find that this story was not as wonderful as I remembered. I can't tell you how glad I am that I was wrong. No matter how many times I go back and re-read this, it is still my absolute favorite Ninth Doctor tale. Doyle captures all three of these characters exactly as I see them, and reading it reminds me of why I fell in love with this show in the first place. It's a story about a bonding moment for the Doctor, Rose and Jack, with an ending that ties New Who and Classic Who together just beautifully in all its glorious angst.

Here's my second long-story rec.

Story: Reflections

Author's Summary: Charged with saving the universe, can the Doctor overcome his own darkness to defeat the Daleks?

Recced because: I should probably start by explaining what this story is really about. Perhaps best summarized by one of it's reviewers, it's a story about a ""Dalek-blighted universe created by a Doctor corrupted by his own heart." This piece is an AU based off of the serial The Evil of the Daleks, which I think is one of the best stories in all of classic Who. Sadly, most of the episodes were burned in the BBC purge of misery and woe, but the storyline is worth suffering through reconstructions for. However, if you absolutely refuse to watch this serial, or simply can't for whatever reason, this recap provides all the information you would need to make sense of Reflections. And Van's story is definitely worth the effort.

Although it's pretty darn long by Who-fic standards, I think this one is absolutely worth the time commitment. Not only is it a brilliant Two/Jamie story, but the plot is completely engaging and seriously intense. Van has an excellent grasp of the characters, particularly the Second Doctor (he also does a great Victoria), and the result is that you really understand the motivations of his AU-self. You can believe that this dark version is someone the Second Doctor could have become. (And did I mention the sex is hot as hell?) But most of all, I love this story because it's just so damn angsty. The first time I read it I was hooked from chapter one through the very last line and yes, I cried.

Recced because: I love Harry Sullivan and I love this story. The first time I read it I actually cried with laughter, and no matter how many times I re-read, I still grin from ear to ear. A bizarre bonding moment for the Fourth Doctor and Harry that is wonderfully in character and full of so much charm. I can't imagine how anyone could read this story and not smile.
