Well, this is my last rec! I've had fun this week, and I hope you've all enjoyed these stories as much as I have.

Story: No Place for you Here
Author: RTF ([livejournal.com profile] rob_t_firefly)
Rating:Teen
Author's summary: What becomes of a Doctor who can't be a Doctor?
Characters/Pairings: Doctor (Cushing), Doctor (Webcast 9th)
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1591

Recced because: The Doctor Who universe is a gigantic, divergent monster of a thing. Being around for so long, canon and the questionably canon are bound to contradict and overlap in all sorts of odd ways, with loose ends sticking out all over. Two of those loose ends (the ninth Doctor seen in the Scream of the Shalka webcast, and the "Doctor Who" movies starring Peter Cushing) are tied together neatly in this story that feels exceptionally clever and completely sincere. I'm especially fond of RTF's portrayal of the Shalka!Doctor, who we really don't hear enough from in fan fiction.

Story: Backspin
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: He had been strong before. Now he was a menace. Peri and the Sixth Doctor, edging toward an understanding despite the usual interpolation of mortal peril.
Characters/Pairings: Six, Peri
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1843

Recced because: Six and Peri are a much underrated Team TARDIS that doesn't get written well nearly often enough. Between their first and second season they seem to become much more familiar and fond of each other. This story fits nicely in the interim and is an excellently written example of their relationship, and a plausible way that it could have developed.

Story: The Space Between Opposites
Author: storyseller
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: On linguistics, best enemies, and breaking the rules.
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Simm!Master
Warnings: None
Word Count: 5395

Recced because: In the television show, we catch glimpses of the intense structure and hierarchy that is Gallifreyan society. It's only natural that the Gallifreyan language would follow suit, and storyseller uses that assumption as a base for creating an intimate and isolated world for the Doctor and Master. There is a definite sense within this fic that these characters truly are alien, and all of the linguistic terminology makes it interesting as well as engaging.

Story: Totem
Author: DameRuth
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: Peri learns that an ancient Earth concept can be successfully applied to the Doctor.
Characters/Pairings: Six, Peri
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1407

Recced Because: Colin Baker has described his doctor as the "cat who walks by himself", and in this story, DameRuth shows just how appropriate that really is. This is an absolutely wonderful character study of the sixth Doctor, with all his feline qualities. And with the story from Peri's perspective, we're offered a refreshing view of her actually figuring a few things out. Peri does have a brain in her head, and this story shows that nicely.

Story: Aces and Eights
Author: joonscribble
Rating: All ages
Author's summary: After the longest night in the Hub, Owen has to do final documentation for Lisa Hallett's corpse.
Characters/Pairings: Owen Harper
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 1190

Recced because: For me, Owen Harper is one of the most interesting and layered characters in Torchwood, but in fanfic he's often short-changed as the bastard in the background. [livejournal.com profile] joonscribble writes Owen wonderfully, with his complexities, and this story offers a rare glimpse into the softer side of Owen without making him out of character.

Story: No Rest for the Wicked
Author: AND ([livejournal.com profile] neadods)
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: The Doctor, suicidal after the Time War, meets a younger, more innocent self - and decides to rewrite history.
Characters/Pairings: Evelyn Smythe, Six/Nine
Warnings: Explicit Sex
Word Count: 1523

Recced because: I really enjoy glimpses of the ninth Doctor pre-Rose because it allows for a much darker and often more dangerous Doctor than we see in the TV series. AND's Nine is written well in this dark mood, while the sixth Doctor, often written as cruel, is believably innocent. While there is sex in this fic (and yes, you did read that Six/Nine tag correctly) it's really secondary to the exploration of the Doctor's post-Time War guilt.

Hello, everyone! I'm [livejournal.com profile] cosmic_celery (NotOnBoats on Teaspoon) and I'll be reccing a mixed bag of fic this week. I hope everyone finds something that they like!

Lets start off the week with a bit of good ol' fashioned crack.

Story: Doctors’ Night Out or a Whole Bucket Full of Crazy
Author: finmagik
Rating: Adult
Author's summary: The various incarnations of the Doctors' meet up for a night on the town, in the village on Christopher street.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Evelyn Smythe, Romana II, Vislor Turlough, Four, Five, Six, Eight, Ten, Four/Six
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 3,700 with both chapters

Recced because: The crack. Oh the glorious, incomparable crack. This has to be my favorite in the "a bunch of Doctors meet, hijinks ensue" genre, and every time I come back to it it's still funny. Much to Finmajik's credit, she uses the stereotypes for each Doctor to hilarious effect, but also manages to add a smidgen of believability to the whole drunken affair.
