Story: Cross Purposes
Author: johne
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,103
Author's Summary: The Monk has been arrested for tampering with the timeline. But he's not the only person in the room with an interest in changing history.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Romana II, The Doctor (2nd), The Doctor (8th), The Meddling Monk (Eight/Romana II, Jack Harkness/Second Doctor)
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: Crack ships that someone work out to not be crack. A nice melding of my favourite Doctor with one a little bit more classic. Some brilliant one-liners (the best is from Romana II, somewhere near the end), and a hell of a lot of verbal sparring, which for me often makes a fic. It's also a pretty clever one, with a lot of world-building obviously done in the background.

Hello! It's me again. Although, woefully lacking in Who icons until I pay my membership fees again. T_T This time I thought I'd try and recc something from every Doctor's era, since I have 2 weeks to recc, so... here we go!

Story: Museum Piece
Author: [livejournal.com profile] honeynoir
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 551
Author's Summary: Time Lady Clara and the cantankerous, broken-down Type 40 TARDIS who refuses to be properly repaired. (Doctor/TARDIS)
Characters/Pairings: The TARDIS, Clara Oswin Oswald
Warnings: Spoilers for latest season finale.

Recced because: Ok so I said I'd start One!Era... I sort of did. This is a lovely little piece investigating the lives and times of Clara Oswin Oswald. I took particular interest in this one because as anyone who knows me will tell you, I take particular delight in Gallifreyan History 101, and it's especially interesting to see a character so-well-written that is simultaneously an outcast, and not an outcast (I actually began this with a similar tale about Susan). It's also hilarious, I mean, I giggled out loud on more than one occasion. It's touching, too, and it's nice to see - again - a similar but not similar interaction between the TARDIS and Clara. Also, spot-on characterisation!

Is that all we have time for? Well then, thank you for watching my calufrax recs and here's hoping I'll be back again soon with 7 more fics! Roll on [livejournal.com profile] shelwass's reign! To finish one I'm going to end with something a little fun... There's no place like home.

Story: Over the Rainbow
Author: rickmaniac101
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2,097
Author's Summary: The Doctor's been wandering about the strangest place of all, Oz. A little slice of his time with the mystical Wizard.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Madame de Pompadour, Mickey Smith
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: Oh, this is a beautiful, clever piece. I love it when an author can so successfully place the canon of one story into the canon of the other and make it seem like they were made for each other. The chemistry between the characters makes it obvious who everyone is and why, and it works so well. It is also, absolutely, a barrel of laughs. I was giggling from start to finish. Hands on my side stitches, lemme tell you. Not to mention it's just plain well-written, structure and grammar wise. And then somewhere... it grows dizzy. Disorientating. The ending was the biggest surprise ever, given the start. A brilliant way to end the recs and a reminder that not all is as it seems...

Story: Time, Patience (And a Pinch of Hate)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] a_phoenixdragon
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 297
Author's Summary: The God would learn there was no such thing as Mercy.
Characters/Pairings: Other Character(s), River Song, The Doctor (11th), The TARDIS
Warnings: Discussion of death

Recced because: A very short piece, since Is started with a very long one. It is short, sweet, and to the point. It feels a little to me like a shopping list for somebody planning a murder. The structure is interesting (one sentence per paragraph) but that adds to it's charm. The author really gets into the head of the psychopath while making you feel that the villains are clever gits who really don't know what they're doing, and the theme and word repetition is dizzying. I especially love the baking imagery.

Author's Summary: The Doctor and the Master go for a lovely drive in the country.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: Pure. Fluff. I love little AUs where these two run off and get to be a happy family of friends again! And then you go and ask Bessie into the mix and, well, frankly, I'm in love. Oddly enough it also has a charming feel of the British to it, which is a nice way to read something. The Master is a bit Stephen Fry-ish, too. Aaaaand then it punches you in the feels, in the middle. Read on, dear reader, at your peril! Your delicious peril...

I am so, so sorry for the quiet! Life went a bit hectic, this week. ): Last few recs, coming up!

Story: The Nightmare Child
Author: Mandragora
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2,677
Author's Summary: A war in Hell collides with a war in Heaven
Characters/Pairings: Seventh Doctor
Warnings: war themes, explicit violence, swearing and horror

Recced because: Now, you see, I don't know much about the 7th Doctor but from what I know, this is an absolute gem, and I want to see more of him. A dark and mysterious tale about the Time War and the Master that actually makes me like the 8th Doctor movie a little more... The dialogue is amazing (can you see a theme in fics I like?), and so is how it ties Doctor Who canon in with real life warfare. It also has a nice snippy pace that works well and makes me feel a little breathless.

Me again! Bit of a busy day today so today's rec is a little late! For that, have some PWP.

Story: Boxed In
Author: nonelvis
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 1,636
Author's Summary: Eleven/Dream Lord, anything dark and disturbing.
Characters/Pairings: Dream Lord, Eleventh Doctor
Warnings: Dub!con, bondage, claustrophobia, sexual themes

Recced because: This is a dark one and will definitely be the only outward PWP that I rec, but I do have a thing for the Dream Lord and psychoanalysis, and so I don't think it's too much of an outlier from my interests. And besides it is, really, very hot, and hits quite a number of my kinks. The author writes a very believable plot - canon-wise, though how believable porn is in Doctor Who is, I suppose, in the eye of the beholder - and the voices are very accurate, which is really a plus when you read anything. It's also a nice insight into the Doctor's mind and his past relationships, and has a good syntax that progresses at a good pace and leaves you on a great cliffhanger that makes you entire re-think the Pandorica...

It's me again! Getting this one in a little bit early because it's currently past 3am, and I'm having trouble sleeping. But hey, never too early for Doctor Who. In some alternative universe somewhere, I'm probably late. Which by no coincidence at all is the theme of this next rec...

Story: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Author: Brunhilde
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2,230
Author's Summary: The Lady Romana is a powerful witch, a talent passed down from her mother and nurtured by Professor Irving Braxiatel of the Magical Academy. It is a talent that will shape her life.
Characters/Pairings: Irving Braxiatel, Leela, Narvin, Romana II, Other Character(s)
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: I found this one only recently, but I am an absolute sucker for an alternative universe and sci-fi and magic go eerily well together. The inclusion of Leela in this fic was a delightful surprise, and the society and world that has been built up for this story is as believable as any canon story from the show itself. The adaptations fit perfectly, and I like how the story is split up into scenes that span Romana's life. The dialogue is charmingly witty, the implications of what goes on behind the scenes the perfect addition, and the whole story could cut like a knife. A real gem, and well worth the three read-throughs I've just given it.

Hello there! My name is Lamia, and I'll be your reccer for the week! I'm notoriously inconsistent with my interests so there'll probably be a reasonable mixture here of classic Who, old Who, funny Who, angsty Who, and shippy Who. I hope you like the stories, by wonderful people, as much as I enjoyed them.

Story: Trust Me (I'm a Lying Liar Who Lies)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elisi
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 22,082
Author's Summary: In which River is enigmatic, Martha is frustrated, Mickey is intrigued and the Doctor is a Pond.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, Francine Jones, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Other Character(s), River Song, River Song, Rory Williams, The Doctor (11th), Tish Jones
Warnings: Swearing, action

Recced because: This is one author that I go back to over and over again. Seriously! Go give her love. That said, the reason I chose this fic in particular is because of the range of things it covers that just ring 'Doctor Who' in my books. Martha being awesome (another reason is because of her qualification this week in [livejournal.com profile] f_march_madness), the Doctor not being perfect, people being people and difficult and just... real. And warm. It's got laughs, and it's got bits that really take out your heart and stamp on it, but it's also got heart, and really, that's what a fic should be all about... It's a long one to start, but well worth the time to sit down, maybe with a cup of tea, and drink it all in.
