Last one! And I suspect I'm cheating a little bit, reccing three by the same author, but I have to confess I love this author so much that when time came to choose I couldn't find any others to recommend over them. This one, however, is at least quite different in tone to the last two...

Story:
We Could Go On Loving In The Same Old Way
Author: JJPOR
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1161
Author's Summary: He would do anything for her… post-Doomsday AU “fix it” fic.
Characters/Pairings: Ten / Rose
Warnings: None listed, but it's a bit dark. Also, spoilers in tone if not in content for recent episodes.

Recced because:
I'm leaving as I came in; dark...

I'll be honest; although I've really enjoyed the new series, some of the decisions made throughout it haven't really thrilled me; I'm not really much of a 'shipper and I've found the Tenth Doctor at times really difficult to like. Which is why I like it when the fic -- and the writers of the show proper -- actually acknowledge this. This fic claims to be a post-"Doomsday" AU, but as the author acknowledges it's actually more of a post "The Waters Of Mars" fic; it doesn't actually spoil anything from that episode, and I won't spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it, but it essentially depicts a Doctor has decided to reverse old wrongs in his life... and why he really, really, really shouldn't. It's dark, bleak and confronting, and subverts all the "Doomsday" 'fix-it' fics which seek to bring Rose and Ten back together by taking it to an extreme that shows why this might not be such a good idea after all.

*** Anyway, that's all from me; as I (belatedly) pass on to my successor, I hope you've enjoyed the fics I've offered to you (even though I did sort of squeeze several of them in at the last minute!), and I hope you all have a happy holiday period!

Story: The Protectionals!
Author: JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1222
Author's Summary: A forgotten classic from the 1981 television schedules, unfortunately as yet unreleased on DVD; only read this if you think you can handle the action; Duggan! Benton! The Protectionals!
Characters/Pairings: Duggan, Benton, Other characters
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because:
Anyone who has even vague memories of either Starsky and Hutch or The Professionals, depending on what side of the Pond you grew up on, will recognise the cliches being skewered here; namely, a lot of early eighties cops with cool cars and bad perms, one of whom has a 'hit things first and don't bother about the asking questions part' and the other who provides a 'vaguely cool-headed voice-of-mild-reason thing'. And they're skewered hilariously. And what gets me most of all is that this actually fits into the Whoniverse quite well; I suspect I'd actually rather see this than some of the spin-offs we did get...

Story: Masterchef
Author: JJPOR
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3648
Author's Summary: Ten. Master(s). Cake. No chains or nakedness this time, though. Don't look so disappointed.
Characters/Pairings: The Master (all of them), Ten, Donna
Warnings: None

Recced because:
It's such an obvious idea I can't believe I haven't come across it before; we've had multi-Doctor stories, why not multi-Master ones? It takes a challenge about Ten (being naked), Three (being chained to Ten) and cake and twists it to provide a hilariously cracky story about the Master attempting to collaborate with himself to bake the Doctor a birthday cake of all things. They collaborate about as well as the Doctor usually does with himself in these situations; personalities clash, minor irritants bloom and the Delgado Master in particular seems less-than-impressed by what his future has in store for him. Bliss.

Whoops, sorry, too much to do and not enough time to do it in, with the result that I'm hopelessly behind. So I'm going to squeeze a few into one session, m'kay?

Story:
First Date
Author: koshiroryuu
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 558
Author's Summary: Sarah Jane can be surprisingly overprotective of her son.
Characters/Pairings: Clyde / Luke, Sarah Jane
Warnings: Non, but there's a bit of slash in there.

Recced because:
Overprotective parents can be very good for a laugh, done well. Overprotective parents with matter transporters are comedy gold. A short-but-sweet fic about how unfair it is that a parental figure who'll let you combat alien forces of darkness won't give you a moment's peace on a date with your boyfriend. Funny, warm and sweet, and Sarah Jane's attempts at intimidation are hilarious.

Story: June 30th
Author: annlarimer
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3749
Author's Summary: "I have a sword, and I'm really quite angry." Crossover with Hot Fuzz. SPOILERS: Minor riff on "The Fires of Pompeii"
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Other Characters (mostly from Hot Fuzz), The TARDIS
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: A bit of a change of pace from yesterday. This one's a lot more fun and cracky.

I bloomin' love a good crossover, me (which should pose a warning -- you may encounter more from me over the course of this week) and this one's a good 'un. It's a crossover with the movie Hot Fuzz, but like the best crossovers you don't really need to be that familiar with either to really get into it. If you haven't seen the movie, all you really need to know is that an uptight village policeman (sorry, officer) has somehow blundered his way onto the TARDIS prompting a lot of hairy misadventures as the Doctor unsuccessfully tries to get him back to the right place, whilst his partner (with whom he has a certain amount of homoerotic subtext with) wanders around the village trying to find him.

This appears to be the only fic by this particular author, or at least the only one I can find -- which surprises me because it's utterly fantastic. The author completely nails the voices of all the characters, the story perfectly suits the tone of both properties (which is always a concern I find when crossing something over with Doctor Who, especially a non sci-fi property), and it's utterly hilarious, and at times really rather sweet. Plus, there's also a neat little subtext about how not everyone wants to travel with the Doctor, and that traveling through time and space doesn't have to be the be-all and end-all of life if you're happy where you are. Which, given how the show has a bit of a tendency to beat us over the head with how awesome the Doctor and his lifestyle is, is a message worth remembering.

But I'm probably over-thinking it; it's mostly just really funny, and that's all you really need to know.

Hey hey, [livejournal.com profile] golden_orange here! First time reccing, so I hope you enjoy the stuff I find for you!

Story: From This Day To The Ending Of The World

Author: [livejournal.com profile] icebluenothing
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4342
Author's Summary: The last shot in the Time War has fired. The Doctor has to deal with the last thing he expected or wanted -- he survived.
Characters/Pairings:
Nine, Eight, Original Companions
Warnings: None

Recced because: Where better to start with an Eight-To-Nine Time War regeneration fic?

There's a lot of them out there, but this one always sticks with me. It's set in the immediate aftermath of the Doctor's regeneration and after the final battle, when he's coming to terms with what's happened and what this means for him. The setting (which is established in an ingenious moment at the beginning) is perfect for this new Doctor's first moments, as it's like a microcosm that allows him to confront the lingering emotions after the Time War -- guilt, rage, bitterness -- and claw his way out of them to become the Doctor we know and love. And there's a truly devastating flashback to the last moments of the Time War where we meet the Eighth Doctor's last companions, who the author manages to sketch with such skill that despite the fact that we only know them for a handful of paragraphs, we can't help but fall in love with them.
