The [ profile] dw_femslash ficathon just happened over at that comm, so I figured I'd rec something awesome from ficathons past.

Story: Escapology
Author: birdsarecalling
Rating: teen
Word Count: 4,794
Author's Summary: Donna Noble's stuck inside her own head. What she needs is a little escapology. (Donna/Jo Grant)
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble/Jo Grant, Sylvia Grant, Wilfred Mott, Mike Yates, Shaun Temple
Warnings: none

Recced because: This fic is adorable. I feel like 'Donna meets old companion' may be a trope (and one that I've written recently, hm), but this is the defining one of those fics for me. Partly this fic is about Donna coming back from having her memory taken by the Doctor, partly it's about what Jo does as she gets older, and there's a tiny bit in there that's somehow about Mike Yates and is so good. This whole fic is so good - a really nice melding of new and old school Who.

Story: Cold Comfort for Change
Author: birdsarecalling
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 22,575
Author’s Summary: In a universe where the Master works for the Celestial Intervention Agency, the Doctor and his companions inevitably find themselves on the wrong side of the law.
Characters/Pairings: Third Doctor/Delgado!Master, Adelaide Brooke, Original Companions
Warnings: Swearing
Recced because:

This is a story that begins in a zeppelin above an acid lake on an alien world and only gets better from there. If that isn’t enough to sell you, I’m not sure what else I could possibly say to change your mind.

Seriously, though: this fic is an AU wherein the Master (still calling himself Koschei) is an Agent of the CIA, Three has a fully-functional TARDIS, and they end up playing just the cat-and-mouse game you might expect. That would be brilliant enough, but what makes this fic exceptional is the unique Team TARDIS--Adelaide Brooke (much younger and with a wonderfully fleshed-out personality), Mohandas Gandhi, and Gamma, Twenty-Third Chief Executrix of the Google-Exxon Imperium--and the wonderful sense of humor with which it’s written. It’s a wildly enjoyable read, start to finish.

Story: All Due Concern
Author: birdsarecalling
Rating: All Audiences
Word Count: 710
Author's Summary: "In which the Brigadier longs to travel to a future where caller ID has been invented."
Characters/Pairings: Doctor Three, the Brigadier
Warnings: None

Recced Because: Notice how most of my recs have a humorous bent? That ain't gonna ever change. THIS story is a gem. The Brigadier couldn't help the Doctor but Sigmund Freud would have had a field day.

"Listen to me: I have reason to believe that the future of humanity is in very grave danger!" The Doctor's voice crackled over the phone line. "You must alert all UNIT command centres at once."

"Grave danger?" Alistair perked up. "Is it Silurians?"

Alistair liked Silurians. They were a respectable threat for a respectable military operation. None of this nonsense with mad yetis and killer flowers -- a man could feel proud of his place in the world, when he spent his days beating back genocidal lizard warriors for Queen and country.

"Of course it's not Silurians," the Doctor said, heedless of the way in which Alistair deflated against his pillow. "I've had a dream."
