Story: Recruitment
Author: Sphinxey
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 738
Author's Summary: Gwen is taking her new role seriously, but things rarely work out as expected. Crack. Spoilers for first episode of Children of Earth but episodes 4 and 5 never happened.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Myfanwy
Warnings: none

Recced because: Time for some Torchwood crackfic! Because of my sad, sad love for the show, I still hold out hope that more TV episodes will be produced, and there's also Big Finish material to keep me going. Plus, of course, fanfic. In this story, we jump back to right after Children of Earth, part 1. With only Jack, Gwen, and Ianto around, the team has two openings. How do they plan to fill the spots? Gwen has an idea that results in chaos, basically. This fic is a quick, amusing read with my favorite part being the bit where Ianto describes why certain candidates just are not going to make the cut.

Story: Five Ways Ianto Jones Didn't Travel In Time
Author: HanuuEshe
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 4310
Author's Summary: Does just what it says on the tin.
Characters/Pairings: Captain John Hart, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Lisa Hallett, Myfanwy, Other Character(s), Other Character(s), Other Character(s), The Doctor (Author-Created), The TARDIS, The TARDIS
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Five Things stories are difficult to write with consistent quality, but this Torchwood story is a beauty, in which all five ficlets work really well. It's by an author who hasn't been recced here before, but has a good few stories on Teaspoon. I think we'll probably be seeing more on Calufrax.

Story: A Love for the Ages
Author: [livejournal.com profile] settiai
Rating: All Ages
Word count: 537
Author's summary: It was a story older than history.
Characters/Pairings: Myfanwy/TARDIS

Recced because: It really shouldn't be possible for a Myfanwy-POV fic to be this good, but this is brilliant. It sounds cracky (and the concept inevitably is) but the telling of the story plays itself straight and is actually rather heartbreaking. And as a bonus, it explains very neatly how Myfanwy ended up in the present day. Lovely stuff.

Story: Hearth and Home
Author: Aeshna
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 1570
Author's Summary:"Typical!" Jack called after her, scrunching the flimsy bag into a small blue ball. "You only love me for my fish!" A night at home with Jack and Myfanwy.
Characters/Pairings: Jack, Myfanwy (the Torchwood Three pteranodon)
Warnings: none.

Recced because: I'm going to rec some Torchwood and Jack fics for the next few days. This is a fabulous slice of Torchwood reminiscences both good and bad. Aeshna avoids the temptation to make Torchwood a sort of waiting cell for Jack to spring out of and suddenly become an all new man in "Everything Changes"; I believe in this Jack, and in his colourful past in Cardiff. There's a sense of Jack's playfulness in both the present and in his memories and a beautiful kinship with his own pet pteranodon.

(I must admit to being curious about Jack's past with Torchwood, because it sounds like he did it all with style.)

... right, so I thought I recced my last one yesterday but it turned out I did it today just very very early today and oh god I hate time zone differences. Err, have another one!

Story: The Care and Feeding Of
Author: Lovechilde
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1501
Author's Summary: After the events of Cyberwoman, there is one unofficial member of the team who needs to mend some bridges with Ianto.
Characters/Pairings: Ianto, Myfanwy

Recced because: To be fair, I'm not much into Torchwood fic and only read this because the author's a friend, but this sweet, unusual, well in character story is much more than the obligatory TW rec. Of the sheer amount of fan closure "Cyberwoman" demands, it takes one small, off-beat angle and gives it respect and spirit. It's all very easy to write pterodactyl crack; I think you'll enjoy this one piece of pterodactyl angst/fluff.
