Story: How Iris Wildthyme finally got her man

Recced because: It’s very funny, and brilliantly done. The Doctor discovers he’s not alone after all, but the sole other survivor of the Time War is - to his dismay - Iris Wildthyme! If you know who Iris is, you’ve probably already hurried off to read after spotting the summary, but if you don’t, don’t worry. Iris is a Time Lord from various spin-offs, whose adventures mirror the Doctor’s in improbable ways, and she’s been chasing him for rather a while – that’s all you need to know to enjoy this story.

Anyway, with some lovely glimpses of the TARDIS’s pov, and lots of gems like the line about the cabbage (no, I’m not explaining) and all the clues just happening to converge in south-east England, it’s a great fic to start the week with. And the ending – the ending is perfect.

Hello everyone, I’m a Whovian over from Belgium, and I’ll be your reccer this week. It is my first time here so apologies if anything goes wrong. I will rec a variety of stories covering most eras of the show so I hope there is something for everyone to enjoy the coming week.

Gallifrey V came out recently, and to celebrate that I have this hilarious little ficlet for you all to start off the week. It captures the characters and the tone of the series perfectly, and it made me laugh out loud more than once. I always enjoy stories which show the author is familiar with less known facts in canon, as is the case here.
I almost didn’t read this because I don’t know Iris other than by reputation, but since she doesn’t actually feature here (other than by reputation!), it wasn’t a problem. The characters are perfectly portrayed, especially Romana II and her wicked sense of humour.
The set-up for the story itself is quite ingenious, and brings out everything I love about the Gallifrey series. There is banter, humour and even a bit of political backstabbing. What more could you wish for on a Monday morning?

I realise the Gallifrey fandom is quite small, but I hope non-listeners will enjoy this too. The story does not require extensive knowledge of the series, so just give it a go (and perhaps check out Gallifrey after that!). The author does not appear to have been recced before, which is also a bonus.

Hi! Here's the first of my recommendations this week - I hope you all enjoy.

Story: The Only Renegade Time Lords Not To Be President This Time War

Recced because: Last time I recced, I did a theme set of BFA fics. I'm not going to try for that this time, but I figured I'd start with an awesome story about a set of somewhat obscure characters. This is the story of who was president of the Time Lords during the Time War (practically everyone), and I think it's funny even if you're not a bit obsessed with BFAs in general and the Gallifrey series in particular. But if you are, you'll find a lot of nods to the canon which make the fic amazing.

Recced because: I have a weakness for Pete's World fic; I also have a weakness for Iris Wildthyme. I hadn't ever considered those two elements being combined, but this story does an amazing job. I like this ending (or continuation) for Rose quite a bit more than the one we got in canon.

It's actually Monday for me now, but I only just realised I'd missed my final day. This is a good one to end on.

Story: Walks Through Walls

Characters/Pairings: Six, Erimem, Peri, Frobisher, Iris, Mel, Evelyn, Charley (and Eight).
Warning: Spoilers for 'The Bride of Peladon'.

Recced because: It's a beautiful thing, built around a very simple prompt - Six gets Erimem a new cat. This he does, and there's clearly a great kinship between this Doctor and the cat (Five was not so fond of them) and that's great, but eve11 doesn't leave it at just that. Instead, Erimem lives out her life on the slow path and Six shows up with all his companions at various times in her life, and each meting shows us something different about Erimem, who is living her life very well without the Doctor - which is something else to be glad of. I must also admit that anything with Frobisher and/or Iris in it, and done well, is likely to bring me great joy. And this does - though, unlike anything else I've recced - it is somewhat bittersweet.

Recced because: How can you resist a summary line (that's also the first line of the fic) like that? Iris is always a joy, and putting her together with Ace works very nicely for this little vignette. There's even a nice bit of offstage-Brax in there.

Recced because: This is a beautiful Iris piece, which is enough to make it noteworthy. What's really unusual about Silence, however, is that it isn't comedy. Iris Wildthyme, the most irrepressible character ever to drive a double-decker bus and hit on every incarnation of the Doctor ever to cross her path, is pretty much made for comedy. That's what makes this fic so heart-stopping: We never expected to see Iris like this, and we never wanted to see Iris like this. Because this is Iris immediately after the Doctor has pressed the switch, and there aren't many fics out there that can make the Time War this interesting to me, or so real. Add to that a beautifully rendered Iris/Izzy relationship, and you've got a winner.

Because Monday's are rather awful sometimes, here's a bit of crack to brighten the day!

For those not in the know, Frobisher is a shapeshifting alien – a Whifferdill to be precise – who likes to wear a penguin body most of the time. In this story Frobisher is having a bit of a mid-life crisis, with some interesting results… the line about him, Jenny, and an adopted Adipose alone make this fic worth its weight in gold. Also, the ending, which explains Frobisher’s fate, is scary-plausible (if a little AU).

Recced because: Poor Dodo is even more woefully unrepresented in fanfiction than Susan, which is saying something. Here she gets another chance at the universe, in even less conventional company than the last time. Which is also saying something. If you've not met Iris Wildthyme, she's a Time Lady of even more insanity and reckless behavior than the Doctor. This story is a great introduction to her in all her multi-colored, surprisingly kind, frizzy-haired, packrat glory.
