Story: Fussy
Author: Sahiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1565
Author's Summary: Taste buds were tricky little buggers.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond
Warnings: None

Recced because: It’s just hilariously funny and both Amy and the Doctor are written spot on. I love expansion on canon bits and this is a nice look at the Doctor dealing with his regenerations changed taste for food.

Story: Fantastic
Author: Sahiya
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 4401
Author's Summary: The TARDIS thinks the Doctor needs a companion. Inara/Nine. Crossover with Firefly; set pre-series for both canons.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Inara
Warnings: Explicit sex

Recced because: As I've mentioned in a previous rec, I love stories that present an outsider view of the Doctor. This story does that better than most. It's told from Inara's point of view and recounts the night a strange blue box appeared in the Academy gardens.

The prose is wonderful--lyrical and very dense. Both the beautiful setting and the emotions just pop right off the page. For the Doctor, this is set right after the Time War, and it shows the pain he's in and the first, tiny, glorious step towards recovery. And I don't want to give away anything, so let's just say that it also ties in beautifully with Firefly canon.

Hallo, everyone! I am your reccer for the week-- and I do apologize for the ridiculously late start. I have too many kids with dentist and orthodontic appointments *smiles ruefully*. Sorry! I'll do better tomorrow. Those who know me know that I am a big Ten/Donna shipper, but I'm a fan of many sorts of stories, and will be reccing a variety of fics.

Story: When You Have To Go There
Word count: 7142
Author: sahiya
Author's summary: Traveling just isn't the same without a home to come back to.
Characters/pairings: Nine, Ten, Eleven/Jack, Amy
Warnings: None (sex occurs but is not described, teen rated)

Recced because:
I have a big soft spot for Jack/Doctor fics. But the relationship between them is complicated. It's hard to find a fic that really shows the full extent of how complex a relationship between a constantly-travelling Time Lord and an immortal could be, or how the relationship might shift from Nine, to Ten, to Eleven. This one handles the complexities of the relationship well. It's also very touching, and brilliantly written.

If you like it, don't forget to shower love on the author!

Story: The Rest of the Story
Author: Sahiya
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3613
Author's Summary: Of second chances, TARDIS repairs, and cupboards full of never-ending art supplies.
Characters/Pairings: pre-Eleven/Jack, wee!Amelia
Warnings: none

Recced because: Wee!Amelia is awesome! Oh, wait, you probably want more detail than that, huh? *g* At the beginning of s5, I so wanted to see young Amelia Pond go traveling with the Doctor. I liked the season we got, but I would have liked to see that season, too. "The Rest of the Story" is part of what that season would have been. Also, there is Jack! He and the Doctor get some things sorted between them, and young Amelia approves. This one is light without being a humorous treatment, and definitely worth checking out.

If you like this story, please remember to leave the author a comment. Authors like comments, even if they're as simple as "I really like this." It makes us write more.

Story: Old Friends Make the Worst Enemies
Author: sahiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4217
Author's Summary: Giles is having nightmares. But he needn't fear they might come true, because they already have.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (10th), Martha Jones, Rupert Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer crossover)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I love the way that [livejournal.com profile] sahiya has combined these two worlds, and how we see the effects of the Year that Never Was on the Buffyverse. Furthermore, it was a stroke of genius to have it be Giles that reaches out to the Doctor given his background of, um, old friends hell-bent on destroying the world. I love what these two characters bring out in each other.

Story: Skewed Perspective
Author: sahiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1841
Author's Summary: "Doctor. Do you think that it's possible - just possible - that your semi-immortality may have given you a skewed perspective on the subject?"
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan
Warnings:. none

Recced because: In this quiet crossover with Lois Bujold’s Vorkosiverse, a newly widowed Cordelia is traveling with the Doctor. This story captures the emotional heart of both characters perfectly, and Cordelia’s Betan level-headedness is just the thing to balance Ten’s angst. Even if you’re not familiar with Bujold’s works, this is worth a try. But be warned, there’s a good chance Cordelia will intrigue you enough to explore her story further!

Story: Mad Nursing Skillz
Author: Sahiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3743
Author's Summary: In which the Doctor has a very bad day, Rory gets to do what he does best, and Amy kicks things. Well, people. Well, one person, specifically.
Characters/Pairings: Eleven, Amy/Rory
Warnings: None

Recced because: Oh, I'm so excited that I get to rec this!  This story is very grounded, and the characters are all very much themselves.  The author's summary pretty much tells you everything you need to know, except it's so much better than it sounds.  It's categorized as hurt/comfort, and while there is plenty of that it is handled excellently, so that it neither overwhelms the story and becomes gratuitous nor fades into the background.  Sahiya really captures the quietly sweet dynamic of the friendship of Amy, Rory, and the Doctor.  In short, quite a lovely story.

Story: Early Days

Author: sahiya

Rating: All Ages

Word Count: 3973

Author's Summary:
It had been one of the more miserable nights of Jack Harkness's life.

Characters/Pairings: The Ninth Doctor, Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler, hints of Doctor/Jack/Rose

Warnings: None

Recced because: If you like hurt/comfort fics, (like me) then you’ll probably love this. It’s angsty, with some subtle shippyness and cute thrown in, and the fact that it has our favorite trio, Nine, Jack, and Rose, makes It even better!

Whoop, I missed a day! Expect another this evening to make up for that.

Story: Only Biography
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sahiya
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 5452
Author's Summary: Biographies were the Doctor's favorite literary form. (Crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosiverse)
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's an unlikely but unique way for the Doctor to meet a new companion: fitting into the blind spot of her biographer. This is a very well done crossover with the Vorkosigan saga. Cordelia's listlessness is plausible, and her dialogue quite in-character. There is a lovely attention to mood in this piece, both in the settings and the characterization. I'm looking forward to finding the time to read the other stories in this series.

Story: Atonement
Author: Sahiya
Rated: All Ages
Word count: 11092
Author’s summary: The Doctor goes back for Jack a bit sooner. But sooner still might not be soon enough.
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None

Reason for Recommendation: There’ve been hundreds of stories where Jack finds the Doctor again and hostilities ensue. There’ve been hundreds where, after explanations and apologies, they fall on each other and make up in a variety of different ways, some tame, some X-rated. This one is different for a whole host of reasons. Here, the Doctor decides to find Jack himself, for a set of quite complex reasons he probably doesn’t fully understand himself. And he does find Jack, in a location and state of health that’s as uncomfortable for us to read as it is for the Doctor to see - and even more so as he realises that the situation, and Jack’s presence there, are both his fault. Sahiya pulls no punches, in description, in how Jack reacts to the Doctor, in the Doctor’s temptation to turn and run and in how Jack shames him into staying. It’s a story about consequences, of both actions and inaction, and about the nature of qualities such as friendship, loyalty, trust and selfishness - and about cleaning up your own mess, something the Doctor rarely sticks around long enough to do. Sahiya knows her characters well, and writes them flaws and all, and I can’t recommend this one enough.

Story: Right At Home
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sahiya
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3302
Author's Summary: "Doctor, this is my son, Count Miles Vorkosigan. Miles, this is the Doctor. Please try not to blow anything up, either of you, while I go pack a bag." Crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga.
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Other Character(s)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I bumped out another rec to make room for this one, I liked it so much.

After Aral dies, Cordelia feels the need for something new; and when the Doctor appears, she thinks she's found it. Those who haven't read the Vorkosigan books will perhaps be confused, lacking the background, but Cordelia is such a delightful character anyway, I think one would like her even if one hadn't met her before. For those who are familiar with it, Cordelia saying goodbye to Miles in preparation to going off with the Doctor is so full of zingers and feeling; it's so very them. And while those two are centre-stage, the Doctor is just as much himself here too.
