Story: Always Walking Away
Author: Amy Wolf
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2808
Author's Summary: "He never thought he'd say that many goodbyes to the same person."
Characters/Pairings: Susan Foreman, Romana I, Romana II, Martha Jones, Ten, Eight, One
Warnings: rather dark

Recced because: First, I should mention that this is complete crack. However, it's also so well-written it's almost plausible, and the ending is rather chilling.

Excerpt: He’s trying to work it out in his head, the order in which it all happened. First for her, not him. He knows how it all played out for him. Knows far too well. Can’t forget the goodbyes. He needs to see it from her end; not what he tried to show her, but what she saw. What she took, not what he wanted to give.

That way, hopefully, he can understand why they’re always saying goodbye. And why she always comes back.

Story: Ad Infinitum
Author: Noldo
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1014
Author's Summary: "She's not sure where she came from, or where she's going. (Post-Time War Romana.)
Characters/Pairings: Romana III
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is the absolute best post-Time-War Romana fic I've read.

Excerpt: She remembers tomorrow when yesterday hasn't happened yet, and, although she doesn't sleep much, she dreams when she does - and in dreams it's all sweepingly disjoint, everything coming together (or coming apart, perhaps) in a huge birdlike swish-throbbing (it's a meaningless phrase, but she likes it, the play of word against word and the way it suggests a sort of breathless fragility, something of a great death not quite written in), and she dreams of burning.

She wakes with the word 'Gallifrey' on her lips.

Story: Nowhere Music
Author: LizBee
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1664
Author's Summary: "I was a dad once."
Characters/Pairings: Romana II, Eighth Doctor
Warnings: none

Recced because: Oh, the language. This story is less about plot, and more about time - what could have, might have, should(n't) have happened in a war where everything around you can be rewritten in an instant.

"Losing a time war, if you've never tried it, is a long, slow process. Win a day, lose a decade. That planet? It was always uninhabited. Would you mind standing still a moment while I nip back and kill your grandfather?"

Apologies for the lack of recs the last couple days; I've been down with a nasty flu.

Story: Kodachrome
Author: livii
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2349
Author's Summary: "She's memorable, Martha Jones. He never had a chance."
Characters/Pairings: Martha Jones, Harry Sullivan
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is the story that completely sold me on Martha/Harry. For those of you who haven't read anything by livii, yes, Martha and Harry have never canonically met. If that prevented us from shipping them, we wouldn't be in fandom, would we? It's a beautiful portrait of Harry, and life with(out) the Doctor, and knowing the future.

(Also, it includes lines like: "He realizes that even with ten years' warning, he's still incapable of making sensible conversation, and so the floor collapsing underneath them is a stroke of terrible good fortune." Enough said.)

Story: Entangled
Author: Doyle
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2103
Author's Summary: "Right, then. Adam Mitchell, this is your life."
Characters/Pairings: Adam Mitchell, Nine, Mickey Smith, Rose
Warnings: none

Recced because: Don't click away when you see the character list! Adam Mitchell is generally regarded as one of RTD's least successful creations. This is the first - and thus far, only - fic I've read that not only makes Adam into a real person, but also makes you empathize with him. The style is absolutely lovely. It's a very memorable portrayal of a character a lot of us tried to forget.

Story: Catalyst
Author: nostalgia
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1286
Author's Summary: "So in 1982, the Doctor becomes, for a week, a chemistry teacher."
Characters/Pairings: Ace, Ten
Warnings: none

Recced because: I love stories with criss-crossing timelines (very wibly-wimey timey-wimey, before Moffat made it cool), and Ace's interactions with Ten are spot-on. The Doctor is the same person with Ace that he was / will be, and this story is both painful and hopeful at the same time - just like the best of Doctor Who.
