Story: The Fake Fiancé
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3620
Author's Summary: Trapped on Verescis, the Doctor and Peri are dragooned into a diabolical wedding ritual -- but the native who helps them escape is more than he seems.
Characters/Pairings: Sixth Doctor, Peri Brown
Warnings: None.

Recced because: It’s a clever, well-written fic; the interactions between the Doctor and Peri are perfectly judged, from the banter at the start, to the more compassionate exchanges as the situation becomes more serious, and it’s an interesting look at an alien world with a smart twist in the tail.

Happy 50th, Doctor Who!! \o/ And, continuing with the bonus recs, we have Two...

Story: To Any Watch They Keep
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 100
Author's Summary: History is a grim business, and Victoria is getting fed up.
Characters/Pairings: Victoria Waterfield, Second Doctor
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Two, Victoria, history, time travel and hope – it’s one of those drabbles that prove how much 100 words can be worth and in many ways it’s also a quiet stating of the series’ ethos.

Hello, I'm Clocketpatch and I'll be you're reccer for the week. Please forgive the abundance of Eleven era fic – the boy in the bowtie has kind of stolen my fandom heart. Since it’s a Monday I’m making my first rec nice and short…

Story: I Am Zagreus
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 203
Author's Summary: The title character, in rhyme, from his own fragmented POV. Highly subjective; 200 words.
Characters/Pairings: Eight, the TARDIS
Warnings: None

Recced because:

The author gives no warnings, but I'm going to – don't read this before you go to sleep.

This reworking of the Zagreus rhyme preserves the creepy sing-song patter of the original; It probably will make very little sense to someone who hasn't listened to the relevant audios, but I think that creepiness makes it worth a read anyway. The themes of possession and darkness are easily recognisable, whether you know the characters or not, especially given the Doctor's recent tangles with his dark side in series 5. The last skilfully twisted stanza leaves a lingering chill long after you've finished.

Story: Backspin
Author: infiniteviking
Rating: All Ages
Author's summary: He had been strong before. Now he was a menace. Peri and the Sixth Doctor, edging toward an understanding despite the usual interpolation of mortal peril.
Characters/Pairings: Six, Peri
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1843

Recced because: Six and Peri are a much underrated Team TARDIS that doesn't get written well nearly often enough. Between their first and second season they seem to become much more familiar and fond of each other. This story fits nicely in the interim and is an excellently written example of their relationship, and a plausible way that it could have developed.

Recced because: This story almost leaves me breathless in admiration every time I read it. It’s such a perfect summing up of Six and Peri‘s relationship with all its contradictions and complications. Not only that, but it’s so vividly written I can see and hear and all but touch everything and there’s a brief but excellently drawn alien race in the background. It’s also one of the best introductions I could think of to this TARDIS team, so don’t ignore it if you’re a stranger to Six and Peri. It's a polished gem of a fic.

Hey, I'm [livejournal.com profile] isiscaughey, and I'll be reccing a mixed bag of Classic and New Who fics this week.

Since it's Monday, I'll start off with something short (but lovely).

Story: Sparking Plugs
Author: [livejournal.com profile] infiniteviking
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 590
Author's Summary: The Doctor's a dab hand at fixing Bessie but he's barely scratched the surface with Jo.
Characters/Pairings: Three, Jo
Warnings: None

Yes, it's quite short, but it packs a lot into every word. The author's lovely, deft imagery sets the scene as Jo struggles with a painful memory while the Doctor tinkers.

Story: Between the Lines
Author: Infiniteviking
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 984
Author's Summary: It's easy for the Doctor to drop out of sight. It's somewhat harder for him to come back. Short, angsty oneshot set after The Five Doctors.
Characters/Pairings: Mike Yates, Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (5th)
Warnings: Spoilers for 'The Five Doctors'.

As my second rec for the day, here's a barely under 1k story set after 'The Five Doctors'. And it just about breaks my heart in a bittersweet way, because it's the Fifth Doctor after all that mess with Omega and he's come to see Sarah Jane; and after the way they originally parted in his previous regeneration, he's bound to be a little nervous after all that time.

The writing of the Doctor and the wonderful details and description (and Yates!) make this a welcome post-episode fic to an often dismissed adventure.
