Hello and goodbye. My week is at an end - hope you've enjoyed the stories I chose, and thanks for having me.

Story: How Lucy Saxon Saved the Day (much to Martha Jones’ disgust)
Author: Darth Loki
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1714
Author's Summary: Lucy Saxon saves the world on a shopping trip to Harrods, in sexy red heels. Martha Jones is disgusted. Harry would be proud. Slight crack!fic.
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, Martha Jones
Warnings: None.

Recced because: I adore Lucy Saxon and all the ways in which she is broken, and love fic that explores this. The Lucy of this story has been jossed which is a great tragedy - she has an aloofness which strikes me as ringing very true, yet she's also quite, quite brilliant. The author calls it slight crack!fic, and whilst I can see why, the story is so undeniably plausible that part of me will always believe that it happened. A true delight on every level!

Story: What I am
Author: kateydidnt
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 105
Author's Summary: Drabble. The Doctor's thoughts at one point in the episode Dalek.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This is so Nine, it hurts. Yet it could be any Doctor - certainly any of the later ones, looking into that vast void between what people see, and the truth beneath. Go. Read. Marvel at what 100 words can accomplish.

Story: Among the Dead and Dying
Author: allfireburns
Rating: All Ages.
Word Count: 100
Author's Summary: Jack goes searching through a room full of dead things. [Jack + Ianto gen]
Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness
Warnings: None.

Recced because: When I started looking for things to rec I went through my Teaspoon favourites, and was once again struck by the stark poignancy of this drabble. (Like all good drabbles, it's so much bigger on the inside.) Imagine my surprise when I realised that it had never been recced (nor had the author), and I am very pleased to rectify this. (You don't need any knowledge of Torchwood in order to appreciate it, by the way. It stands beautifully on is own.)

Story: Five Things That Never Actually Happened (And One That Did)
Author: promethia_tenk
Rating: All Ages.
Word Count: 897
Author's Summary: River Song was in an unusually talkative mood.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, River Song, Rory Williams, The Doctor (11th)
Warnings: Swearing.

Recced because: It's River, telling stories. You'll want them all to be true. (Well, except one, maybe. *g*) One of the most fabulous fics I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and I'm passing it on to you so you can be delighted and laugh like I did. :)

Story: Five Books Ianto Jones Likes Rereading
Author: Misato
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 503
Author's Summary: A Five Things story.
Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones
Warnings: None

Recced because: Deceptively simple, this short fic does several things at once: It's a lovely character study, as well as perfectly capturing the craziness that passes for normality in Torchwood - and it's funny and somehow far more than the sum of its parts. In other words: This is a fic that I like rereading. :)

Story: Hello Spaceboy
Author: Roach Patrol
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 592
Author's Summary: Metacrisis shmetacrisis. The DoctorDonna does the Eleventh Hour.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, The Doctor (11th), Donna Noble
Warnings: None

Recced because: This fic will take mere moments to read, yet cause you undiluted delight whenever you think of it - it was the first fic I thought of when I signed up to rec this time round. (Also: It's Eleven and Amelia plus Donna. What are you waiting for?)
elisi: (Mels)

Hello everyone. I'm [livejournal.com profile] elisi and I'll be your reccer this week. I'll try my best to bring you a varied bunch of stories, starting with one which features a very rare pairing indeed. :)

Story: Sweet Sixteenth or Close Enough
Author: Lyricwritesprose
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 714
Author's Summary: Mels has a good time. Rory experiences the joys of time-scrambled fatherhood. Mels/Jeff, albeit nothing long-term.
Characters/Pairings: Mels/Jeff, Rory Williams
Warnings: None

Recced because: This fic is my fault, in that the basic idea was mine. (Essentially - why was Jeff watching porn that made even the Doctor's eyes widen?) My speculation caused Lyricwritesprose to write this, which is now my head-canon, and should be yours too. Oh, and it's laugh-out-loud funny!

And here's my last rec. Hope you've enjoyed my selection, I certainly enjoyed the opportunity to share some of my favourites. :)

Story: Just For Fun
Author: Laurus Nobilis
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1154
Author's Summary: Donna finds a way to make people (and herself) happy.
Characters/Pairings: Donna Noble, The Doctor (11th)
Warnings: None
Recced because: Donna’s fate was… controversial, to say the least, but I never liked the idea that somehow her life would automatically be less fulfilled without the Doctor, and love stories that explore the idea that her locked away memories could still bleed through (much like Agatha Christie's) and be a part of her. This fic is one the most delightful examples of the genre that I've ever come across, and I hope it leaves you smiling too.

I thought I'd find some light, happy stories for the weekend.

Story: A Lovely Story With Eleven and Sarah and a Baby
Author: nostalgia
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 911
Author's Summary: In which the Doctor wants Sarah Jane to babysit.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor (11th)
Warnings: None
Recced because: The first time I read this, I had tears in my eyes from laughing. Re-reading it now, after losing Lis Sladen, feels... bitter sweet, yet it's a wonderful reminder of the gift we had in Sarah Jane Smith. Won't say anything about the plot itself, except that Sarah Jane is, as always, about fifty million times more sensible than the Doctor. :)

Story: Distances
Author: Levendis
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4907
Author's Summary: Running fast to stand still, or the more things change the more they stay the same, or a series of vignettes about fish and possible nows.
Characters/Pairings: Ace McShane, Adric, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Donna Noble, Nyssa, Peri Brown, Tegan Jovanka, The Daleks, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (11th), The Doctor (1st), The Doctor (2nd), The Doctor (3rd), The Doctor (4th), The Doctor (5th), The Doctor (6th), The Doctor (7th), The Doctor (8th), The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: None
Recced because: This is a fic about the Doctor - all of him, the essence of him. It is a series of vignettes, but they are unsorted and sort of higgledy-piggledy, consisting of briefly captured moments (or lifetimes), and most of the time it takes a few lines, or even paragraphs, before it’s possible to put a face, a time, a context, a ‘number’ to the Doctor in question. This disorientation works beautifully to highlight how he truly is the same man, how who he was/is/will be is all part of one continuous story. Some parts are sad, some happy; others funny, or profound, or deeply touching. But above all, this fic reminds me that the Doctor just is.

Story: Evilness Vs the Doctor
Author: promethia_tenk
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2657
Author's Summary: The forces of evilness have a little chat with the Doctor about where his storyline is going.
Characters/Pairings: River Song, The Doctor (11th), The Master (author created)
Warnings: None
Recced because: I have to confess that I am not exactly unbiased when it comes to this fic. Partly because I helped Promethia research the Master when she was writing it (which resulted in what's probably the the most brilliant ‘author created’ Master ever!) - I even talked her into getting a Teaspoon account, just so I could rec it. Because this is a very unusual fic, and in some respects it’s not really a fic at all... Or rather, it's a fic set in meta. I have tried to write an explanation about ten times, and deleted each one, but basically the author gives the characters an opportunity to comment on their own storylines and motivations. Which makes for rather entertaining, clever, insightful and humourous reading.

There was no way I was going to let this week pass by without a little Doctor/Master! :)

Story: Things You Don't Want in the Night
Author: Calapine
Rating: All Ages.
Word Count: 1609
Author's Summary: Right after that Martian adventure with some homicidal water, the Doctor decides to have a nice sleep; the Master wakes him up.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings: The author gives none, although there are a few lines that might be unsuitable for younger people.
Recced because: This fic was written shortly after ‘Water of Mars’ aired, and it’s still my favourite coda to that episode (and it even fits in with canon, kinda). After all, who better than the Master to give the Doctor a few choice words after that particular imbroglio? It’s hilarious from start to finish, and yet has a deliciously dark undercurrent. Plus both characters are so perfectly portrayed that it truly does feel like a bit of canon left behind – the Doctor’s defensiveness, the Master’s glee... I can't count how often I've re-read it.

Torchwood will soon return to our screens, so here's a story to remember what was.

Story: Nemo Me Impune Lacessit
Author: derryderrydown
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 6601
Author's Summary: "You let Ianto fall into the Rift," Jack said, with a level of strained calm that had Owen edging towards the door. "Alright." He took a deep breath. "But you should know that nobody sleeps until we find him. And I'm probably going to fire you all."
Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness
Warnings: Explicit Sex
Recced because: I have read a lot of Jack/Ianto fics. No really, a lot. And most of them were pretty good, because I’m quite a cautious reader. But this one is one of those that stuck in my mind, and that I still come back to. I don’t want to give too much away, but it is in many ways a very unusual story, which tries to cast light on who the characters are, even when they’re not quite themselves, focussing on what’s fundamental to them and their relationship. It also delves into Jack’s past in rather brilliant way, beautifully highlighting how he’s changed over the years, and why. Plus, it’s just a really good, well-written story. Oh and hot too! :)

Hello all. *waves* I’m [livejournal.com profile] elisi (same name everywhere), and I’m going to be your reccer for this week. I’ve tried my best to assemble a varied list of fics that have made an impression on me one way or another (not easy to narrow down of course), and I think there should be something for everyone. Eleven does pop up a fair few times, but in such completely different contexts that I hope no one will mind.

I’m going to start off with my ‘If you read nothing else, read this!’ story:

Story: Timeless Dreams
Author: musedepandora
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 5416
Author's Summary: "Every story is his story." A retelling of the Doctor and River Song's romance with magic and iPads. Written for an AU challenge.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, River Song, Rory Williams, The Doctor (11th), The TARDIS
Warnings: None
Recced because: This is one of the best things I have ever read. Anywhere. At all. Musedepandora ([livejournal.com profile] cinderbella333 on LJ), is without a doubt one of the most talented writers I have ever had the fortune to come across, and what she has done in this story is sheer magic. It’s not your average AU – or rather, there is what could be termed an ‘average’ AU, but it is combined with another AU so mythical and beautiful that my words can’t do it justice. And the way these two complimentary stories entwine – as well as the way they call back to the show itself – is so masterly done that I am rendered mostly speechless. Sorry if I'm vague, but it is not easy to put across how different and lyrical this story is without quoting the whole thing.
