Author's Summary: Drabbles from ten different alternate universes.
Characters/Pairings: The Doctor (8th), Lucie Miller,  Ben Jackson/Polly Wright, The Doctor (7th), Ace McShane, The Doctor (4th),  Romana I, Romana II,  Romana III, Jamie McCrimmon/Samantha Briggs (from The Faceless Ones)
Warnings: None

Recced because:  These fics aren't very long, but are very fun and manage to keep everyone in-character (something not easy to accomplish when writing alternate universes).

Word Count: 1403
Author's Summary: Once, Karen was just Lucie's friend at work. Now, she's her bitter enemy. Lucie knows what the next stage has to be.
Characters/Pairings: Lucie Miller, Karen. (Slight Lucie/Karen).
Warnings: None (or maybe for the sort of insults you might expect between these two).

Recced because: Well, for one thing it’s great Lucie fic, and there’s not nearly enough of that. For another, it brilliantly uses Lucie, Karen and the scenario to poke fun at the concept of an archnemesis and it’s very funny. And it even comes with cake. Does a person really need to ask for more in a fic?

Story: Supreme Courtship
Author: x_los
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 6023
Author's Summary: From the Best Enemies Kink Meme: "Legally Blonde (the musical) crossover, Ainley!Master/Davison!Callahan. The Master is surprised to find an older version of the Doctor working as a cutthroat lawyer, but it's okay because older men are hot." Now with more Eight and Lucie, because Sheridan Smith!Elle Woods could not be ignored.
Characters/Pairings: Five/Ainley!Master, Eight, Lucie

Recced because: OK, so, logic dictates that I should probably choose something a bit more accessible (and I did say more serious... and I doubt x_los will thank me), but I want to rec this one, so, er, here it is!

Regarding the accessibility issue though and to bring us all up to speed, know this:
In 2010 'Legally Blonde: The Musical' (surprisingly excellent, despite being a musical adapated from a film)(which I also think is surprisingly excellent) opened on London's West End starring Sheridan Smith (who plays Eight's companion Lucie Miller) as Elle Woods, and Peter Davison (Five) as Professor Callahan, who is much more villainous than the movie version of the same character (one of his songs is called 'Blood in the Water') but who still makes a move on Elle towards the end. This spiffy video advert they did has some fun visuals of Smith as Elle, and Davison as Callahan (dancing). Really all you need to know is that Five's been chameleon-arched and now thinks he's a lawyer. I just think the Legally Blonde stuff is a fun background.

Anyway, so it's a good and amusing idea. Five is so totally unlike Callahan, who is quite like Ainley!Master. There's a lot of humour to be derived from that and from misunderstandings, etc, and if you're read other x_los stuff you'll know she's good at humour. She's also very good at a) writing porn - so if you like that sort of thing, there is some of that and b) writing the Doctor/Master relationship. Nothing is easy and no conversation isn't actually a confrontation, but they like each other enough that it works if either of them are willing to admit it.

This fic also has something else to recommend it - Eight and Lucie! One of my all time favourite Team TARDISes. They are very good here, particularly Lucie, who brings some fun meta-commentary on the Doctor/Master relationship towards the end. In short: I like this fic very much – I hope you enjoy it.

[Entirely irrelevant, but yay, ‘tis Saturday, and I have such a lovely Saturday-ish rec to share…]

On what it is like to live in the TARDIS with the Doctor (Yes. It is just as crazy/amazing as you thought it would be):
Story: Death in the Tealeaves
Author: aralias
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1807
Author's Summary: The Doctor likes tea, but this morning tea seems not to like him.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Lucie Miller
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This story is a sheer joy from start to finish. It may feature Eight and Lucie (perfectly characterised; I can hear Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith in my head as I read), but it’s absolutely the sort of thing that happens in between adventures when you travel with the Doctor – any Doctor – and I love fics that give us glimpses of the madness of TARDIS life. There are no spoilers and all you need to know is this: the Doctor loves tea, really loves tea. Lucie Miller is less fussed about tea and tea-related anecdotes, but she is handy with a frying pan when there’s tea-related trouble in the TARDIS kitchen. Oh, and it’s just gorgeously written throughout, and a really fun romp. (No, not that sort of romp, even if Lucie is wearing her penguin pyjamas…)

Story: Quod Erat Demonstrandum
Author: leamichelle
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1455
Author's Summary: He's the Doctor. He saves worlds, galaxies, universes. Most of the time.
Characters/Pairings: Eight, Lucie Miller
Warnings: None

Recced because:

This might not be an epic with words upon words, but it certainly has the soul of an epic. It builds a world and a series of events which are interesting, funny, horrific, and believable. Lucie is narrating and her voice comes through strong and clear. Eight’s voice is also very strong.

My favourite part of this fic, however, is how it shines a light at the Doctor’s darker side, but pulls back before you’re completely sure what you’ve just seen. Like Lucie, you’re left wondering what happened. Her last few lines linger long after the fic is done.

Title: Stradivarius
Author: moonmama
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2369
Author's Summary: A mystery involving a tortured artist and a violin out of its time.
Characters/Pairings: Eighth Doctor, Lucie Miller
Warnings: None.

Recced because:: It’s a gorgeously written short fic (one of those written for Big Finish’s recent competition that makes you question their sanity for turning it down). Eight and Lucie are captured here, (and well on form) and it’s lovely to see some playing around with history, while the questions touched on in its short length are worth pondering. It’s excellent all round, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you're a newbie to this Big Finish duo, then this is a lovely intro.

Story: One is the Loneliest Number
Author: Howlcastle
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 4581
Author's Summary:A lone tenth Doctor stumbles into an old friend in a Chinese Takeaway. The mystery of her being there is more than just a pleasant surprise, but a prelude to war.
Characters/Pairings:Charley Pollard, Charley Pollard, Lucie Miller, The Doctor (10th), The Doctor (6th), The Doctor (8th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: This story was just breathtaking, from the beginning the excellent character voices ring absolutely true. It's end is somehow bittersweet and joyous and leaves you warm and aching. Somehow in the middle of this lush story full of detail the author even manages to sneak in an unexpected bit of fun. I can't imagine you won't enjoy it as much as I did.

Story: Extraordinary
Author: scarlettgirl
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1067
Author's Summary: Lucie Miller, for just a moment, wishes she had been that girl.
Characters/Pairings: Lucie Miller, Eighth Doctor
Warnings: Takes place immediately after Human Resources

Recced because: This is a wonderful tag to Human Resources. Scarlettgirl shows the friendship between Lucie and the Doctor in a way that seemed to be missing from Human Resources itself. This feels like it could have been at the end of HR and is a very satisfying conclusion to that story arc.
