Story: Back Home
Author: Van Donovan
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 14,923 (six chapters, each averaging at about 2,500 words)
Author's Summary: Turlough returns to Earth, not entirely of his own volition, and finds that while some things have changed, some are exactly the same.
Characters/Pairings: Turlough/Tegan, Turlough/Owen, Turlough/Various others/implied, Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Explicit sex, swearing
Note: (this is taken from the A/N at the beginning of the first chapter) Helps to be familiar with Turlough's run on Doctor Who, or at least his intro triology/exit serial. Basic Torchwood knowledge helpful, but not required. Set in the three month glossed-over gap in Torchwood, somewhere probably late 2007, early 2008.

Recced because: The author managed to capture Turlough's personality perfectly and in such a subtle way that it's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes the characterization so perfect. The descriptions of things Turlough smells and feels are so detailed that it's hard to not imagine you're standing right there alongside him. And the intimate moments, while not as explicit as the warning implies, focus more on the emotions between the characters and not the physicality. Overall, a beautiful story that leaves you wanting more by the time you've finished the last chapter.

Story: 10 Uses For Post-It Notes
Author: Erin Giles
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,153
Author's Summary: Just as the title says. (Aka Owen and Ianto have a slight obsession with office stationary.)
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Toshiko Sato, and Owen Harper
Warnings: none

Recced because: Even though each 'point' in the 'list' that makes up this fic is, as far as I can tell, 100 words long (I didn't count), this doesn't have the slightly unfinished feel that some drabble collections can have simply because of the restrictions on that genre. Instead, they are wonderful little peeks into the lives of the Torchwood team - sometimes funny and sometimes, a little more on the serious side. With very few words, the author captured the personalities of each character beautifully.

Story: A Magpie Mind
Author: Saganami Dreams
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4,220
Author's Summary: Eight into Nine, Nine into Ten, and the times between, seen from behind the Doctor's eyes. Margaret Slitheen said in Boom Town that the Doctor had a magpie mind; this version of the magpie counting rhyme just seemed to fit perfectly. (written pre Christmas Invasion, so the last part is speculative/AU)
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Rose Tyler, Eight, Nine, and 10
Warnings: none

Recced because: A wonderful example of how stories that get deep inside a character's head can flow incredibly well and not have the usual bumps and jerks this style of writing seems to have. The story gives us a wonderful view into how the Doctor might have been feeling immediately post-Time War and without becoming a "true" relationship!fic, offers a very realistic explanation for why the Doctor might have fallen in love with Rose.
