Story: Symmetry
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 985
Author's Summary: The Doctor has always expected to lose River, but he never expects to find her.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor/River Song
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This is a really fantastic and short piece about Eleven and River's relationship, how they meet out of order, and then their moments perfectly coming together in canon. I think the author has the voices down solidly too, and the ending is lovely and hopeful.

Story: Five Time Romanadvoratrelundar Missed the Signs, and One Time She Couldn't Possibly Ignore Them
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 6484
Author's Summary: The most powerful woman in the known universe has a tendency to attract admirers. She would probably find this a distinct annoyance—if she could ever be bothered to notice.
Characters/Pairings: Romana II, The Doctor (4th), Irving Braxiatel, Narvin, Leela, K9
Warnings: n/a

Recced because: This is just a joy to read.  The Gallifrey audios are my favourite corner of Doctor Who, and fic that deals with them is relatively hard to come by (although of unwavering quality).  The tale of Romana's many thwarted admirers makes for a genuinely funny story that nevertheless stays perfectly in character.  Part of JaneTurenne's gift is the uncanny ability to make every single line of dialogue she writes sound like it belongs in the characters' voices, and this is no exception: from the Doctor's theatrical boom to Leela's earnest directness, the dialogue sparkles with wit and humour.  One to bookmark and reread.

Story: The Wedding of Lethbridge-Stewart
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3310
Author's Summary: For a man who lives out of order, pre-wedding jitters come post-vows, and the best way to beat them is to multiply them. Fortunately, however, the Doctor is a Time Lord with very good friends.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
Warnings: None

Recced because: I love the Eleventh Doctor AND the Brigadier, and JaneTurenne manages to combine two of my favourite things! This story is really about the Doctor wanting to marry all of his companions, starting with the Brigadier! The dialogue is wordy and fun, and if it weren't for time and space, I could most wholeheartedly see this happening in an episode. Who doesn't want to see Nicholas Courtney give Matt Smith the eyebrow of disdain?

Excerpt:

“You’ll have to give me a moment, Doctor,” says the Brigadier. “It’s been some time since I had to attempt to comprehend the workings of your brain. You decided it wasn’t fair not to marry me because I happen to be one of your friends?”

“One of my best friends, Brigadier,” the Doctor says, smiling, and suddenly looking much older than his own face.

The Brigadier sits quietly, and wonders how he can possibly consider that perfectly comprehensible logic. He tries for several moments to find a flaw in it, and finally gives up, and sighs. “You couldn’t at least have chosen a planet where the marriage ceremony didn’t involve kissing, Doctor?”

“They all end with a kiss.”

Story: Imitatio
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3114
Author's Summary: Romana, Narvin, Leela and Brax: reflections on heroism, in the image of a certain renegade.
Characters/Pairings: Romana, Narvin, Leela, Brax
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Doctor isn't in the Gallifrey series of audios. That doesn't mean he's absent, as this fic so beautifully shows. It's a gorgeous character study of the four main characters and their personal acts of heroism through the first three series, with absolutely wonderful prose.

Story: Boots
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1976
Author's Summary: In the earliest days of The Year That Never Was, Jo Grant pays a visit to the Valiant.
Characters/Pairings: Jo Grant, The Master (Simm)
Warnings:. none

Recced because: This is a wonderful little character piece linking old and new Who. It’s a simple conversation on the Valiant where Jo manages to turn the Master inside out, at least for a moment. She’s one of my favorite companions, and this fic does a great job of capturing her straightforward approach to situations.

Story: Maturity
Author: JaneTurenne
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 2,337
Author's Summary: The Doctor learns, to his dismay, that carrying young companions comes with complications.
Characters/Pairings: Adric/Nyssa, implied Fifth Doctor/Ainley!Master, Tegan
Warnings: None

Recced because: The Doctor's reactions and little asides to himself are adorably hilarious. The voices are spot on, the Doctor is just so repressed, and the Master is so obviously taken with him that he just goes along with whatever the Doctor says, albeit with a ton of snark. The whole thing is very entertaining, especially with Tegan being her no-nonsense, take-charge self.
