Story: The Still Point
Author: [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1369
Author's Summary: Alan sees the universe in her, the turn of the planet and possibilities stretching on into infinity.
Characters/Pairings: Alan Jackson/Sarah Jane Smith, Clyde Langer, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson
Warnings: None

Recced because: Such a lovely character piece for Alan and Sarah Jane, about the universe and their children. Sarah Jane in particular sounds exactly like she should on telly, and this is just one of those good-feeling overall stories.

Story: Seven Days That Shook Captain Jack's Pants
Author: [livejournal.com profile] redscharlach
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 3184
Author's Summary: There is a little-known Welsh saying: "Never judge a man until you've spent a week in his pants." Captain Jack Harkness is that man. These are his pants.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Rhys Williams, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Cracky sex

Recced because: Some Friday LOLs, of course! This fabulous parody shows a week of Torchwood's zany ineptitude, sexy shenanigans, and some of the silliest aliens ever. This had me laughing out loud even on the nth reread.

Story: Reunion
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kerravonsen
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1759
Author's Summary: She had expected her past to stay safely in the past, not come bounding down the hallway calling out her name. (AU)
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor/Nyssa
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is an interesting AU from the Cliché-Swap Ficathon. I wouldn't have expected it to work so well, but Nine and Nyssa are both survivors, the last of their kind. Or not, as you'll find out here.

Author's Summary: Sapphire and Steel crossover: TARDIS/Sapphire.
Characters/Pairings: Sapphire, Steel, the TARDIS

Recced because: Doctor Who fandom got me into Sapphire and Steel, and this short crossover is true to both universes while being unique and fascinating. It's a nice character piece for Sapphire... and for the TARDIS!

Whoop, I missed a day! Expect another this evening to make up for that.

Story: Only Biography
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sahiya
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 5452
Author's Summary: Biographies were the Doctor's favorite literary form. (Crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosiverse)
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Cordelia Naismith Vorkosigan
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's an unlikely but unique way for the Doctor to meet a new companion: fitting into the blind spot of her biographer. This is a very well done crossover with the Vorkosigan saga. Cordelia's listlessness is plausible, and her dialogue quite in-character. There is a lovely attention to mood in this piece, both in the settings and the characterization. I'm looking forward to finding the time to read the other stories in this series.

Story: A Bit of Bother
Author: Gary Merchant
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 2157
Author's Summary: A quiet night at the local police station - but not for long.
Warnings: The Master (Ainley), The Master (Delgado), The Meddling Monk, The Rani

Recced because: Things get weird when some renegade Time Lords are taken into police custody for causing a ruckus. It's funny and the officer's log POV is refreshing and creative. I always enjoy re-reading this one.

Story: Perennials
Author: [livejournal.com profile] koshiroryuu
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 343
Author's Summary: Just an average springtime day for the Doctor and Peri.
Characters/Pairings: Six and Peri
Warnings: none

Recced because: I love entirely dialogue stories, and this one is pitch-perfect. It's a short one, from [livejournal.com profile] whoniverse1000, but the tone and character voices are flawless for a Six and Peri-era scene. I especially like how it plays up Peri's knowledge of botany. A fun quick read.

Author: [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 3610
Author's Summary: Mickey will follow you anywhere.
Characters/Pairings: Mickey, Rose

Story: Postcards
Author: uktechgirl
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 836
Author's Summary: Doris Lethbridge-Stewart enjoys a relaxing holiday in the Highlands. Ish.
Characters/Pairings: Doris Lethbridge-Stewart/the Brig, Harry Sullivan, implied others
Warnings: None given

Recced because: Doris gets precious little screentime, but I like to think of her something like this. Which is to say, someone caring, funny, and completely unphased by both aliens and her husband's inability to actually retire. It's short, but wonderful.

Story: Cartographers
Author: [livejournal.com profile] calapine
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2892
Author's Summary: Former companions during the latest invasion. (Set during tSE/JE.)
Characters/Pairings: Barbara Wright/Ian Chesterton, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Harry Sullivan, Jo Grant, Liz Shaw, Polly Wright/Ben Jackson, Ancelyn/Winifred Bambera
Warnings: none given

Recced because: This is a great shapshot of some Classic companions as the Daleks are at it again in tSE/JE. The pacing and characterization are stellar; it's insightful, funny, and ultimately delves into what being the Doctor's influence is really about. This has sailed straight into my personal canon.

Story: Lady of the Flowers
Author: [livejournal.com profile] amy_wolf
Rating: Adult
Word Count: 746
Author's Summary: Cameca wore flowers in her hair every day after the Doctor left.
Characters/Pairings: Nine/Cameca
Warnings: Explicit Sex

Recced because: Expanded from a kinkmeme story, this is a gorgeous, tender portrait of both. It's sweet and a bit sad as Nine and Cameca find an unusual connection as they face the ends of their civilizations.

Story: Downtime
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cryptile
Rating: None given
Word Count: 4418
Author's Summary: So much for leaving at Christmas . . .
Characters/Pairings: Jackie Tyler, Mickey Smith, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th), The TARDIS
Warnings: None given

Recced because: No second chances? A masterful story, at turns touching, chilling, and humorous. Set between "The Christmas Invasion" and "New Earth," it deals with a newly-regenerated Ten fixing the TARDIS while Earth-bound with the Tyler family. There's a beautiful through-line about change and the development of the new Tenth Doctor.

Recced because: Needs someone to stop him? Needs someone to smack him, perhaps! The companions step up to the task. For crack!fic vignettes, it has a lovely progression to a laugh-out-loud punchline.

Story: Mistitled
Author: [livejournal.com profile] calapine
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1595
Author's Summary: The one way the Doctor could remember his name.
Characters/Pairings: River Song/Ten
Warnings: None

Recced because: Calapine does the impossible. She manages to tell the story of River and the Doctor's name in a beautiful and poignant way that doesn't detract from the mystery that's driven the series for 45 years. I can only hope the Moffat years live up this.

Story: World Enough, And Time
Author: Aces
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1739
Author's Summary: She would have always wanted *more*.
Characters/Pairings: Grace, Eight, Jack
Warnings: None given

Recced because: This is a wonderful character study of Grace, one of the most underrated companions. Jack's brief appearance is a lovely foil to Grace, and Aces writes all three characters skillfully and tenderly. I can't read it without getting a lump in my throat by the end.

Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3761
Author's Summary: Saving the world, one duck-person at a time.
Characters/Pairings: Harry Sullivan/Martha Jones
Warnings: None given

Recced because: Possibly the flagship story for [livejournal.com profile] the_twodoctors. Livii writes a charming, endearing Harry and spot-on Martha. They fight crime save the world some more, fall in love, and just might get that fairy tale ending. Maybe.
