Author: elisi
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 41,098
Author's Summary: "Why is it only ever the bad guys who have a proper plan?" The Master's son finally meets the Daleks. And he thought it a good day. (Hugely AU rewrite of TSE/JE with Eleven and Clara and a host of extras.
Characters/Pairings: Eleventh Doctor, The Master (original), River, Jack, Clara, Davros, Daleks, OCs
Warnings: Death, strong language, violence

Recced because: Elisi's work is always an utter gem to read, especially when she delves into the world of AUs. I also have an ulterior motive for reccing this one, because I've been along for the ride all year since she started it. 'A Good Day' is a brilliant AU version of Journey's End, starring Eleven, River, the Master, Clara, Jack and a small host of OCs. It is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish and takes a wildly different approach to the missing Earth than the original story.

Hello there! My name is Lamia, and I'll be your reccer for the week! I'm notoriously inconsistent with my interests so there'll probably be a reasonable mixture here of classic Who, old Who, funny Who, angsty Who, and shippy Who. I hope you like the stories, by wonderful people, as much as I enjoyed them.

Story: Trust Me (I'm a Lying Liar Who Lies)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] elisi
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 22,082
Author's Summary: In which River is enigmatic, Martha is frustrated, Mickey is intrigued and the Doctor is a Pond.
Characters/Pairings: Amy Pond, Francine Jones, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Other Character(s), River Song, River Song, Rory Williams, The Doctor (11th), Tish Jones
Warnings: Swearing, action

Recced because: This is one author that I go back to over and over again. Seriously! Go give her love. That said, the reason I chose this fic in particular is because of the range of things it covers that just ring 'Doctor Who' in my books. Martha being awesome (another reason is because of her qualification this week in [livejournal.com profile] f_march_madness), the Doctor not being perfect, people being people and difficult and just... real. And warm. It's got laughs, and it's got bits that really take out your heart and stamp on it, but it's also got heart, and really, that's what a fic should be all about... It's a long one to start, but well worth the time to sit down, maybe with a cup of tea, and drink it all in.

Story: My Immortal 2
Author: Elisi
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 37130
Author's Summary: The Immortal is Captain Jack Harkness. This is what happened next. (TW S2 -> CoE) BtVS/TW crossover.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Other Character(s), Owen Harper, Rhys Williams, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: I'm a sucker for crossovers and a big Buffyverse fan, and this is the latest instalment of the best and most canon-compliant Who / Buffyverse series, in which Jack is secretly The Immortal, a character discussed in Angel but never actually seen on screen. It's more serious than the first story, but still has time for romance and humour. I'm hoping that there will eventually be more in this series, but for now the story is complete.

A small sample - It helps to remember that Captain John and Spike were played by the same actor )

Story: The Problem With Boxing Day
Author: elisi
Rating:all ages
Word Count: 8,239
Author's Summary: Alexander Saxon (six years old) hated Boxing Day almost as much as he loved Christmas. How does Alex cope with his human family? And how does the Doctor deal with raising the child of his archnemesis?
Characters/Pairings: Lucy Saxon, Other Character(s), The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings:. none

Recced because: A little something to get in the holiday spirit. This is one of a series of stories in a AU where the Master and Lucy had a son during The Year That Never Was. In this story, Alexander is forced to deal with his extended (human) family on Boxing Day. It does a good job of showing a child’s viewpoint, and is a microcosm of the central tension in this series – how Alex reconciles the fact he loves both his father the Master, and the Doctor, who is helping raise him, and how needs to find his own path between the two of them.

Story: Between Canons: The Year That Never Was.
Author: Elisi
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 12128
Author's Summary: So, what happened to Buffy and friends during The Year That Never Was? Because they were not exactly powerless, having in their arsenal not just Slayers and witches, but also a Hell God. (Standalone FitB to My Immortal. Crossover with BtVS/AtS.)
Characters/Pairings: Jack Harkness, Lucy Saxon, Other Character(s), The Doctor (10th), The Master (Simm)
Warnings: None
Recced because: My favourite Whoverse crossover is Elisi's My Immortal, a brilliant canon-compliant Buffyverse / Whoverse story I've recced previously. The Year That Never Was is the second of two sequels (a third is WIP), and by far the most serious in tone. It asks how The Master handles powerful supernatural opposition, and comes up with some uncomfortable answers. Some knowledge of the Buffyverse is useful, but most things should be obvious from context.

Story: And Then The TARDIS Fell Into Pete’s World
Author: elisi
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 14042
Author's Summary: The TARDIS falls into Pete’s World. Stuff happens.
Characters/Pairings: Amy/Rory, 10.5/Rose, Eleven, River, the Tyler family
Warnings: none

Recced because:
As full of bubbly goodness as any fine crack!fic, this story also doubles as an excellent character study and exercise in closure. The plot, as described in the title, is basically an excuse to throw together characters unlikely to ever meet in canon, stir them up and see what happens. The result is hilariously satisfying.

And that is my final rec of the week – I’ve had a great time finding a variety of stories and hopefully was able to provide something for everyone to enjoy.

 Story: Donna's Choice
Author: elisi
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2443
Author's Summary: Eleven visits Donna. (A fix-it that's not a 'fix-it'. No spoilers for S5.)
Characters/Pairings: Eleven, Donna
Warnings: none

Recced because: What happened to Donna always bothered me.  Elisi has redeemed it in a way that's both believable and a nice fit with canon.  The story gives a good contrast between Ten and Eleven and their natures, although Ten is not actually present.  Plus, the ending is perfectly bittersweet.

Story: My Immortal
Author: Elisi
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 86417
Author's Summary: After settling in Rome in 2004, Buffy started dating a man known only as 'The Immortal', and who was - by all accounts - entirely too good to be true. What if one of his other names was 'Captain Jack Harkness'? This crossover explores how this could be possible, ties the two 'verses together (including all those flashbacks) and shows why Buffy and Jack were perfect for each other at that point in time. Canon compliant in the extreme.
Characters/Pairings: Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Other Character(s), Owen Harper, Suzie Costello, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: My main fanfic habit is Buffy / Angel, and My Immortal is simply the best Whoverse / Buffyverse crossover I've read, which somehow combines elements of both canons without ever putting a foot wrong, and does so with style in a beautiful romantic comedy, and without any changes to canon in either fandom (if you ignore the "season 8" Buffy comics). The Immortal is probably the most mysterious figure in the Buffyverse - although he never appears on screen he's the focus of The Girl In Question, one of the funniest episodes of Angel, and Jack Harkness fits the role to perfection. It helps if you know a little about the Buffyverse and its characters, vampire slayers, etc., but it isn't essential. There are two sequels, both much more serious in tone.
