Story: Mockingbird
Author: icebluenothing
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 14754
Author's Summary: Rose was convinced -- even though he looked nothing like the man she'd met, this new man was still the Doctor. Unless it was all a lie.
Characters/Pairings: Mickey Smith, Rose Tyler, the Doctor (ninth and tenth)
Warnings: none

Recced because: This is a plotty, suspenseful adventure.  That's one reason to read it.  It's also a story that deals with the utter weirdness of regeneration.  One thing that always rang a little false to me, in the classic series, is how well human beings adjusted to the fact that a very good friend had just turned into someone else—not just in face and body, but in all his personal quirks as well.  Rose's freakout on the subject seemed quite reasonable to me.  Regeneration isn't something that human beings are particularly prepared to cope with.

This story explores what would happen if Rose learned that everything that happened for the past few months of her life was a lie.  Or maybe that's the lie—she has no way to tell.  Her confusion and her fear are utterly believable, and quite compelling.  It's well-written, complex, and ends with a beautiful, poignant touch.  Seriously, it's good.  Go read it.

Hello: and thanks for having me here! I suppose I'm a bit late today for the watchers on the east coast (and, I guess, all you dudes in England, hello!) but, uh, better late than never?

I like stories that are funny, and I like stories that are scary, and I really like stories that are both. I started with the new series, but I'm working my way through the classic as well. I have a ton of favorite stories, and what I'm going to rec is pretty much any of them that haven't already been recced here! It's a bit intimidating! Apologies in advance if I miss anything and do a repost.

Story: Of More Value Than Many Sparrows
Author: icebluenothing
Rating: non-adult. I'd say PG.
Wordcount: 1849
Summary: "Don't look up. Look around you." If you can't change history, what use is time travel? (Set after Father's Day and before The Empty Child)
Characters: the Ninth Doctor, Rose.
Warnings: um... spoilers for Father's Day?

Rec because: this is, for me, the ninth Doctor manifesto. It's everything that makes him my favorite Doctor. In here he's ancient and terrible, and battered and hurting, but he's still passionate, he's still got so much love for the universe. He's still going out there every day and patching things together not out of tired duty but because he really cares. And he picks Rose up and takes her along with him. It's gorgeous.

Story: From This Day To The Ending Of The World

Author: [livejournal.com profile] icebluenothing
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 4342
Author's Summary: The last shot in the Time War has fired. The Doctor has to deal with the last thing he expected or wanted -- he survived.
Characters/Pairings:
Nine, Eight, Original Companions
Warnings: None

Recced because: Where better to start with an Eight-To-Nine Time War regeneration fic?

There's a lot of them out there, but this one always sticks with me. It's set in the immediate aftermath of the Doctor's regeneration and after the final battle, when he's coming to terms with what's happened and what this means for him. The setting (which is established in an ingenious moment at the beginning) is perfect for this new Doctor's first moments, as it's like a microcosm that allows him to confront the lingering emotions after the Time War -- guilt, rage, bitterness -- and claw his way out of them to become the Doctor we know and love. And there's a truly devastating flashback to the last moments of the Time War where we meet the Eighth Doctor's last companions, who the author manages to sketch with such skill that despite the fact that we only know them for a handful of paragraphs, we can't help but fall in love with them.

Story: Scent on the Wind
Author: icebluenothing
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1241
Author's Summary: Big Ben ruined, a crashed alien spaceship in London -- the call has gone out for alien experts. But one of them finds a reason to stay home ....
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith, K-9
Warnings: N/A

Recced because: When Sarah was first reintroduced in School Reunion she was carrying the broken K-9 around in the boot of her car and at first glance this fic is the tale of how K-9 came to break down. But it also ties beautifully into series one and is a lovely look at the affection Sarah feels for K-9.
