*pokes my head in* Well, well. It's after midnight here in California, so it looks like I'm up...

*waves nervously* Hi. I'm [livejournal.com profile] irishvampire13 (Irish for short, if you prefer). Not new to the community, but new to reccing, so I may not know what I'm doing. Please forgive any errors. ^.^ ♥

So. Let's get down to it, shall we? Here goes! Here's hoping that I'm doing this right...

Story: A Very Bad God
Author: wmr
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 3,947
Author's Summary: "One event you wish hadn't happened, and it's undone. Just like that."
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor, Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's very much Doctor Who meets 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Scary, angsty, and wonderfully written. I thought it was fascinating and powerful; hopefully, you'll like it as much as I did!

Hello and welcome to another day of fiction suggestion. Some of my favourite pieces of Who fiction probably have to be those which feel like they’re taken right from the midst of a season itself with an established TARDIS crew and the influences of previous and later television stories maybe creeping in. This happens to be one of them!

Story: Collector’s Item
Author: wmr
Rating: All Ages
Word Count:  6006 Words
Author's Summary: The Doctor understands how multiple timelines work. Rose wants to.
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, OC's.
Warnings: None

Recced because:  Wmr writes almost solely for the Ninth Doctor and she knows how to write both him and Rose Tyler well. This story is set between Aliens of London and Dalek and not only feels just like an actual TV adventure but the tendrils of Father’s Day are foreshadowed.  There’s also the usage of a famous historical event which I’m amazed the show has never adapted before! I don’t want to say any more for fear of spoiling it, so please read it and imagine its 2005 all over again…

Story
: Aftermath
Author: co-authored by  Dave7,  and  WMR
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 4046
Author’s Summary: On the worst day of her life, there's a lot to feel remorseful about. Most of all, that she killed him.
Characters/Pairing: Nine/Rose
Warnings: None

Recced because: When two very talented authors work together, it's hardly a surprise when the result is beautiful. Dave7 and WMR each have a gift for getting inside the heads and hearts of their characters, exploring their motivations. This story, set during and after the events of "Father's Day", never hits a wrong note as we journey with them through pain, uncertainty, misunderstandings, and hope.

Story: Why Stop at Thirteen (When You're Having So Much Fun?)
Author: Gillian Taylor ([livejournal.com profile] dark_aegis) and WMR ([livejournal.com profile] wendymr)
Rating: None given; all ages
Word Count: 1285
Author's Summary: Because sometimes he needs someone to stop him. Crack!fic ahoy.
Characters/Pairings: Adric, Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, Ace McShane, Jack Harkness, Jack Harkness, Jackie Tyler, Madame de Pompadour, Martha Jones, Martha Jones, Mickey Smith, Peri Brown, Pete Tyler, Romana II, Rose Tyler, Rose Tyler, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None given, very mild violence?

Recced because: Needs someone to stop him? Needs someone to smack him, perhaps! The companions step up to the task. For crack!fic vignettes, it has a lovely progression to a laugh-out-loud punchline.

Story: A Public Spectacle
Author: wmr @ Teaspoon / [livejournal.com profile] wendymr @ LJ
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 1,890
Author's Summary: Judging by the Doctor’s expression, he could be facing a choice between mating with a pit of snakes and shagging Jack - and the snakes seem to be winning.
Characters/Pairings: Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: When I first read this on wmr's LJ, I commented that Team TARDIS must have landed on the Planet of the Fangirls. At least, that's the only explanation I can think of for a culture that requires the Doctor and (still mortal) Jack to have sex in public or face execution.

The boys' dialogue is spot-on, especially the Doctor's list of fates-worse-than-death-but-still-better-than-public-sex-with-Jack. In addition, I love how Jack's mind works in this fic (or, more specifically, how [livejournal.com profile] wendymr works Jack's mind):

Also, only Jack would think the solution to ending an argument is a good snog.

Story: Cheating Time
Author: Gillian Taylor ([livejournal.com profile] dark_aegis @ LJ) and wmr ([livejournal.com profile] wendymr @ LJ)
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 36,414
Author's Summary: He's saved the universe over and over again. He's lost everything, including his own race. Doesn't the universe owe him something in return?
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler/Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: Ten attempts to get Rose back by taking her from himself pre-"Doomsday." Needless to say, this will all end in tears. Gillian Taylor and wmr create a fascinating, believable alternate reality dealing with the aftermath of Ten's decision--and their ultimate solution for rewriting the timeline *and* solving both the "Doomsday" dilemma and the problems caused by Ten's selfish mistake is jaw-droppingly brilliant.

Story: The Judas Series
Author: wmr @ Teaspoon / [livejournal.com profile] wendymr @ LJ
Rating: Adult
World Count: 85,560
Author's Summary: The Doctor: betrayer of those he loves, or just irreparably damaged?
Characters/Pairings: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler/Jack Harkness
Warnings: None

Recced because: Ever read a series that's so bloody fantastic you wish it were canon? Actually, there was that meme going around a while ago that asked if you were in charge of Season Four, what would you have happen? My answer would be this fic. OK - the beginning would have to be tweaked a bit to fit in with "Utopia," but, except for that, this would pretty much be it. (Taking into account, of course, if I "were in charge," things like "actor availability," "budget restraints," and "pre-watershed hour" wouldn't exist.)

I thought [livejournal.com profile] wendymr captured Ten so well--including his inability to shut up, even during sex. I liked how she portrayed Jack and Rose, individually, (eventually) as a married couple, and as a part of the OT3 relationship. I thought it was also perfect how the Doctor returned to them after losing another companion. I even admired the details in these stories--like making that lost companion, Lauren, a travel agent: someone who sends other people to wonderful places but never went herself. There's more I want to praise, but I think I may have spoiled too much of the series already!
Honestly, this is my favorite Whoniverse fanfic ever and one of my favorite novel-length fics, in any fandom.

Story: Hall of Mirrors
Author: WMR
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 75,567
Author's summary: Eventually, she will have to accept that this time he really does mean it. That sometimes impossible really is impossible.
Characters/Pairings: Rose Tyler, The Doctor (9th), Jack Harkness (Nine/Rose)
Warnings: none

Recced because: I'll admit it. I have a certain fondness for alt!Nine fics. This is yet another 'verse wherein Rose encounters an alternate version of her Doctor with a very clever twist. We get to see flawed, human characters (yes, even the Doctor) in situations that, while not exactly 'realistic' in the way that you or I encounter Autons every day, you can see happening. Like all of Wendy's writing, this story is more about the characters than the plot. But this story has just about everything wrapped in an angsty hurt-comfort-y wrapper. Its got pieces of Series 1 as it could've been. No punches are pulled with this story and, combined with its gorgeous prose, it's definitely one of my favourites of Wendy's work.

I didn't post anything yesterday. I am a terrible person. I apologize.
lol. Right. Down to business. Well, as much as reading and reccing Doctor Who fic can be considered business. *grin* In honor of the new series, here's one with Donna!

Story: Bleep Encounter
Author: WMR
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1293
Author's Summary: "I met the Doctor and you are very definitely not him. Unless you're all called 'Doctor' on Mars, the Doctor is a skinny streak of bacon in trainers, keeps nattering on about his ex."
Characters/Pairings: Donna, The Doctor (9th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: I love stories of the past meeting the future and this is a great, humorous, little example of Donna meeting the Ninth Doctor after the events of the Runaway Bride. Hopefully it makes you smile.
