Author's summary: In which Susan builds a life made of little things and moments- learning to stand still. Classic!Who character insight piece, set after The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Susan/David

Recced because: I'm one of the rather small group of people who really loves Susan, and this little fic managed to encapsulate what I pictured her life being like after she leaves. I sincerely believe Susan would be able to make a happy life for herself without the Doctor, on Earth with David, and this piece has a hopeful slant, in a quiet, measured, yet lyrical way. It rings true for the Susan we know from the show, and that's good enough for me. An introspective, insightful, lovely piece, well worth the read.

And for today’s rec we are back to the Time War. No Romana this time (it was tempting but I realise not everyone likes her as much as I do).

Story: Nightmare Child (The Bad Dreams Remix)
Author: Livii
rating: all ages
word count: 1843
author's summary: "O God, I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space—were it not that I have bad dreams." Susan, in the Time War.
characters/pairings: David Campbell, Leela, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (8th)
warnings: none

recced because: Instead I have a story with Susan, who is another fascinating character in Doctor Who canon because there is just so much we don’t know about her. Firstly, this story is a haunting character study of her; and secondly, I am always fascinated by stories which explore the relationship of the Time Lords with Time. This fic brilliantly contrasts that Time Lord life with Susan’s life on Earth through a collection of fragments. The result is a story about growing up, taking responsibility and facing consequences.

So many of Livii's fics have been recced here already, which I think shows that this is a fantastic fic. So go and read it.

Story: In Memory
Author: Myrareldon
Rating: All ages
Word Count: 1122
Author's Summary: The Tenth Doctor and Rose have another misdirected landing, but it puts the Doctor very near to a place he'd been before in a previous regeneration. Much to his surprise, he finds a reference to his visit he was not expecting.
Characters/Pairings: David Campbell, Rose Tyler, Susan Foreman, The Doctor (10th)
Warnings: None

Recced because: My first Doctor was the First Doctor; I saw the first episode when I was ten, and have been watching ever since. This is a nice reminder of some of the early characters, and of just how much the Doctor has lost.

Excerpt: Rose smiled brightly at the Doctor as she ran to the door, waiting for him to slip on his coat.

“Here we are! New Earth, golden era of the second Human empire!” He opened the door with a smile, but it faded as he looked around. Rose shoved him out of the door and stopped as well. The skyscrapers around them looked new, but some of the older buildings looked as if they had weathered a bombardment at some point in the past. The houses seemed to be mostly in order and there were people walking about, enjoying the day. A few cars trundled down the street.

“Doctor?” He looked around, his face scrunching up in confusion. “Doctor, where are we?” He took a deep breath and started forward, hands in his pockets. Rose quickly looped an arm around his, looking around.

“Definitely Earth. First Earth, your Earth. Much later in time, but not too far, really.” He saw a patch of grass up ahead and started for that. Parks were calm, and gave him a good idea of the kind of people milling about. New people were less out of place there. “Maybe...oh,-”

Please note - When I offered to rec this week I forgot that I'm going to be travelling and may not have web access every day, so I've set up all of my recs as scheduled posts; one should appear every day if I haven't got anything wrong. If they all appear at once or vanish into limbo my apologies!

Story: Comes the Rain
Author: eponymous_rose
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 791
Author's Summary: The world ends and Susan is free.
Characters/Pairings: Susan Foreman/David Campbell, First Doctor, Barbara Wright
Warnings: None

Recced because: A really lovely, bittersweet take on Susan's thoughts as she says goodbye to her grandfather. I like how Susan is given true agency: her wish to follow her own path, to experience stability and her deep love for her grandfather, while at the same time choosing a life different from his.
