Story: Tactile
Author: TigerKat
Rating: all ages
Word Count: 106
Characters/pairings: Barbara Wright/Ian Chesterton
Author's summary: Barbara Wright is a sensible woman. Drabble.
Warnings: none

Recced because: This little drabble highlights Barbara's perspective on the evolution of her relationship with Ian in a subtle yet beguiling way. Cue the shipper feels!

Story: I Can't Decide
Author: TigerKat
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 576
Author's Summary: Harold Saxon and Azula: what never was, but could have been. Written for the f_s meme. Crossover with Avatar: the Last Airbender.
Characters/Pairings: Simm!Master, Azula
Warnings: None

Recced because: If you're not familiar with Avatar: the Last Airbender, you won't be able to follow along here – but if you are, this story is a rare treat, bringing together two characters with very similar ideas about power, deviousness, and how to manipulate people to get what you really want. Azula's got a cruel idea for the Master, and he's got some advice on Zuko's psychology in return; and in short, this story will make you very disappointed Azula and the Master never met in either canon.

Story: Things Unsaid
Author: TigerKat
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 2521
Author's Summary: Ian and Barbara deal with an accident. Which perhaps wasn't terribly accidental.
Characters/Pairings: Ian/Barbara, Susan, The Doctor (1st)
Warnings: None

Recced because: It's amusing, the situation they're in and how long it takes Ian to catch onto it. And the suggestion at the end about how they might have come to be in that situation in the first place. It's also sweet and funny how Barbara and Ian both feel the same way about each other, but won't bring themselves to say it.

Story:Ten Times Trouble
Author: TigerKat
Rating:All Ages
Word Count:~8100
Author's Summary:Ian and Barbara are getting married. All ten Doctors go to their wedding. Chaos ensues.
Characters/Pairings: Ian/Barbara, All Ten Doctors and assorted companions

Recced because:

I love fics that have all the different regenerations of the Doctor. Only the first 10, as this was written before Eleven, but still. I have a soft spot for Classic!Who, and Ian and Barbara as companions. This is a lovely view of their lives after they returned home, and I like how all the Doctors came to their special day. Showing that they won't ever be forgotten! By him, or by us loyal fans.

Story: The Dalek Invasion of Discworld
Author: Tigerkat
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 720
Author's Summary: Exactly what it says on the tin.
Characters/Pairings: The Daleks
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: The Daleks have a cautionary tale... Sheer crossover lunacy, in which the Daleks find Terry Pratchett's Discworld, and some of them survive to wish that they hadn't. No other Who characters appear, just Daleks, assorted gods, witches and wizards, cats, luggage, Death, etc.

This one is best if you have a little knowledge of the Discworld and its inhabitants, but you can enjoy it without knowing the crossover.

Story: What Planet Are You From?
Author: TigerKat
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 755
Author's Summary: Howl Jenkins lives near Cardiff. Torchwood is in Cardiff. Howl Jenkins does magic. Torchwood notices magic. Crossover with Howl's Moving Castle. Tiny spoiler for Fragments.
Characters/Pairings: Captain Jack Harkness, Toshiko Sato, Owen Harper
Warnings: None

Recced because: I love Doctor Who (well, obviously) and I love Diana Wynne Jones's books. Someone crossing the two as well as this (all right, Torchwood to be pedantic, but still) is rare enough to be a possible case for national rejoicing. Two of the handsomest, vainest and troublesome characters in sci-fi and fantasy running into one another (and with such a simple, good reason)? Toshiko is rational, Sophie is sensible, Howl causes trouble and Owen ends up as a frog. My one complaint is: how could the author not have left us an account of the rest of the week?

Story: A Second Coming
Author: TigerKat
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1674
Author's Summary: Grace Holloway never expected to see the Doctor again. Certainly not like this. Starring Ten, Martha, Donna and Grace. Spoilers for third season and fourth season casting.
Characters/Pairings: Ten, Donna, Martha and Grace
Warnings: None.

Recced because: This was actually written before S4 aired, so I guess you can take it as AU. Still, the interaction between Martha and Donna is spot on and makes me suspicious of the author's possible clairvoyant abilities. That and I'm just a sucker for past companions meeting current ones. :)

Will be posting my last rec after I get back from the early Christmas my family is doing today. A Hartnell probably. Yes, Hartnell will do nicely...

This week seems to have gone incredibly quickly. I've had fun, and I hope you've enjoyed my recs.

Story: The Dalek Invasion of Discworld
Author: TigerKat
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 720
Author's Summary: Exactly what it says on the tin.
Characters/Pairings: The Daleks
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Crossovers which stay true to all the fandoms involved are notoriously hard to write. Discworld fanfiction in general is notoriously hard to write, given Terry Pratchett's rather distinctive style. This fic manages to pull off both. It is brilliantly funny, and the tone is perfect for a Discworld crossover. The characters featured all react to the invasion in utterly believable ways, and the Daleks learn a very important lesson at the end of it.

Today is crossover crack ficlet day!  Because they're both so very short, I'm giving you two recs for your reading delight.  (Mod, if that's not OK, I'm sorry!)

Story:
Snark and Explosives
Author:  TigerKat
Rating:  Teen
Word Count:  366
Author's Summary:  Ace McShane and Jayne Cobb. Ain't life nice? Crossover with Firefly.
Characters/Pairings:  Ace/Jayne.
Warnings: Sexual themes? Also crack.

Recced because:
Ace/Jayne  (Can we call it Jayce?)  may be the best crossover crack pairing ever.  The author puts a lot of character, laughs, and explosions into very few words.  Shiny!

Story:  The Secret of the Mysterious Coat
Author: scarlettgirl
Rating: None given. I'd say Teen, less for actual content than because if you show it to your ten year-old cousin her brain may explode.
Word Count:  616
Author's Summary:  There is a strange disturbance in the universe. Can Nancy and her gal pals, George and Bess, get to the bottom of this strange mystery? A totally crack!fic Torchwood/Nancy Drew crossover.
Characters/Pairings:  Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato, plus the Nancy Drew crew:  Nancy, George, Bess, and their associated boys.
Warnings:  Possible corruption of childhood memories through innuendo.

Recced because:  If you, like me, read dozens of Nancy Drew novels as a child, you may be sent into helpless giggles at the mere concept of a Torchwood/Nancy Drew crossover.  Even if you only read one or two Nancy books and barely remember them, you should still enjoy this wonderfully silly story.  The author does a fine job of mocking the characters and writing style from Nancy Drew, but in a loving sort of way.  (Since Jack is around, it's a very loving sort of way. *wink*)

Story: Ten Times Trouble
Author: TigerKat
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 8157
Author's Summary: Ian and Barbara are getting married. All ten Doctors go to their wedding. Chaos ensues.
Characters/Pairings: Barbara Wright/Ian Chesterton, the Doctor (1-10), Ace McShane, Donna Noble, Evelyn Smythe, Fitz Kreiner, Jack Harkness, Jamie McCrimmon, Other Character(s), Romana II, Sarah Jane Smith
Warnings: None.

Recced because: Ian and Barbara deserve a perfectly lovely and smooth wedding, complete with affection, cake, peace, and presents. But Ten Times Trouble is like a real wedding, rolling everyone’s drunk uncle, interrupting brother, affectionate friends, and bickering relatives into ten incorrigible packages. This sweet, funny, and poignant story has more than a bit of appeal for almost every part of fandom.
