This week seems to have gone incredibly quickly. I've had fun, and I hope you've enjoyed my recs.

Story: The Dalek Invasion of Discworld
Author: TigerKat
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 720
Author's Summary: Exactly what it says on the tin.
Characters/Pairings: The Daleks
Warnings: Swearing

Recced because: Crossovers which stay true to all the fandoms involved are notoriously hard to write. Discworld fanfiction in general is notoriously hard to write, given Terry Pratchett's rather distinctive style. This fic manages to pull off both. It is brilliantly funny, and the tone is perfect for a Discworld crossover. The characters featured all react to the invasion in utterly believable ways, and the Daleks learn a very important lesson at the end of it.

Story: Echoes of Gallifrey
Author: Mandragora
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1547
Author's Summary: The Doctor, Romana, lunch and an echo of things to come.
Characters/Pairings: The Fourth Doctor, Romana II
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is a sweet story with some excellent exchanges between Romana and the Doctor, but it also has a slight edge when you read it with the new series in mind.

Story: An Unexpected Education
Author: Sleepy Sheep683
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 11930
Author's Summary: Over the course of a year, a scientific adviser falls in love for possibly the first time. It's most inconvenient.
Characters/Pairings: Liz/Brig, Mike Yates, Sergeant Benton, The Third Doctor
Warnings: None

Recced because: This story, along with it's companion piece No More Than A Feeling, is an excellent look at Liz Shaw's all too brief time at UNIT. It tallies perfectly with canon, and fleshes out what we saw onscreen in a beautifully believable way. I struggled to choose between the two, but, in the end, my love for all things Liz won out. (The other story - which views events from the Brig's perspective - is well worth a look as well, of course.)

Story: For the Rain it Raineth Every Day
Author: Melengro
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 396
Author's Summary: Romana II/Viola (Twelfth Night). Crossdressing!love! Er, no, really. I got it off a random pairing generator.
Characters/Pairings: Romana II/Viola (Twelfth Night)
Warnings: None

Recced because: Shakespeare, femmeslash, Romana II and cross-dressing. What's not to love?

Story: Here and Far Away
Author: carawj
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 1160
Author's Summary: She remembers that she died, but everything is different now.
Characters/Pairings: Leela/Romana, Leela/Rose
Warnings: Spoilers for 'Turn Left'

Recced because: It is, quite simply, fantastic. I can hear Leela's voice perfectly whenever I read it, and Romana and Rose are brilliantly written as well. I'm so glad this was posted on Teaspoon this week, so I had the chance to rec it before anyone else. The characters are all strong and, somehow, subtly fragile. This is the sort of story you'll want to read again and again.

Story: The Importance of Being Beta-Read
Author: travels_in_time
Rating: All Ages
Word Count: 376
Author's Summary: Sumhting is very wrogn in teh Hub.
Characters/Pairings: Gwen Cooper, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Warnings: None

Recced because: Torchwood fandom produces some excellent fanfiction. Unfortunately, it produces some rubbish as well. Although sadly a little short, this fic encapsulates the nature of badfic perfectly, and will make you laugh out loud.

For my first rec of the week (and, in fact, my first rec ever), I bring you a fic by an author who hasn't been featured on [livejournal.com profile] calufrax before.

Story: Five Women Who Change Rose's Life
Author: ryttu3k
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 3380
Author's Summary: Stuck in an alternate universe with a pale imitation of the man she loves (loved?), Rose feels like her life has been put on hold. But things are changing her, even now.
Characters/Pairings: Rose/Gwen, Rose/Ten, duplicate!Ten/Martha.
Warnings: Miscellaneous spoilers for 'Journey's End'.

Recced because: I don't think anyone really expected Rose and the duplicate Doctor to live a perfect fairy tale life in the parallel universe, and I've read a great many different interpretations of what might have happened instead. This story is beautifully bittersweet, and ends on a perfectly positive note.
